Has anyone made these--either the narrow or the full? Do you have photos?
I like the *idea* of these for a project, but I'm having trouble visualizing what they look like just from the line drawings. I'd especially love to see comparison shots of both curved sleeves. Likewise, images of similar sleeves in period would be lovely, too!
Anyone?
Thanks!!
I have Margo's patterns, the Elizabethan Lady, underpinnings and accessories. She has a Facebook group, so I asked over there and finally got an answer on the underskirt panels. You could try there?

Lady L how long did it take you to get approved for the group? I emailed to be let in over a week ago and still haven't been accepted >:( I have partlet questions and need answers darn it! Otherwise I'm with Gem--I too am making the curved sleeves and would like pictures. They seem pretty straight forward...almost *too* straight forward :-\
I joined a while ago, not sure how long it took to be approved, but I don't think it was very long. Sorry, I know that wasnt' very helpful! Margo did post that she was busy and not online as much.
Send a message to Margo/adminstrator. I know it took me about 2 weeks but she sent me a note saying she was back logged.

Yeah, I did that 4 days after no response :/ I'll keep being annoyingly persistent ;)
I made the narrow sleeves in the size recommended by my bicep measurement, and they were ENORMOUS. I could have fit both arms in one sleeve*. My suggestion: make a mockup.
*slight exaggeration
Stone, that's the issue I had with the paned sleeves, even trimmed down (my bicep measurement put me in a 12, but my arm length put me in a 2--and they were STILL too big!). And I *did* make a mockup, but some things are hard to judge, particularly if you've never made or worn anything similar before! That's one reason I figured I would draft my own using my existing sleeve pattern--but this isn't something I really want to make up without seeing IRL first.
Margo's Yahoo list has a photo gallery, but the pictures are really small and not well organized.

Thanks, LP! Those are awesome! They're also quite a bit less round in the back than I was expecting from the technical drawing. Very helpful!

This outfit is *amazing!* It had to have taken an *insane* amount of time and expertise!
Wicked-It's even more amazing up close.
When I saw him in person last month, I could do nothing but stare at the sheer detail in that getup. Just rows and rows of tiny green satin bows, beads, buttons and embroidery. Masterful workmanship.
I am sure I drooled on his matching heels at least once (sorry, LP).
Thank you Thank you *bows*
but really this garment is about to be retired....hopefully its successor can live up to it.
As to the "insane" amount of time.....all there is to say is....yes lol over 00 hand stitched pearls lol
And dont worry about the shoes darling...they needed a good spit shine anyways! No had you scuffed them it would have been another matter ;) lol
*curtsy*
You are too gracious Milord. ;) Might we ask when this new garb will debut?
Pictures please!
Possibly Minnesota sometime?
</HIJACK> sorry :(
Oh LP I wish you were at *my* home faire...I would make you my new BFF--bad for you, fun for me ;)
OK. I took some time off from work because i really need to make these sleeves (and lay some laminate flooring too, but that's not important) .
I'm going to try for one set each for hubby and I, the curved in narrow.
I will make them reversible from black velveteen/gold silk, so that we can switch up the look on the outfits.
Both will be beaded (eventually).
Approximately how long does a set take to make? They will be interlined for stiffness....
I made some reversible paned sleeves (http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL417/1033223/23865558/398195850.jpg), with piping (that I also made) in less than a week (maybe 3-4 days, all told?). They were quick, quick, quick! And that involved all that piping around all those edges, plus joining them together with all those beads--neither of which you'll be doing for the curved sleeves. My very basic yellow sleeves (http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL417/1033223/23882966/398628647.jpg) (from a pattern I drafted myself) took like an afternoon.
One of the primary reasons sleeves are so much fun is because they're so FAST!
...But don't tell your DH, otherwise you'll have to help lay down the new floor.... ;D
Yeah, I managed my curved narrow in a day.
I've got them cut out of the gold duponi and black velveteen, I figure with twill interlining, the 3 layers should be stiff enough without interfacing.
I want to do black velvet stripes (bars) across the gold. It will be tricky matching the stripes on the two pieces, but since the material is cut on the bias and I'm placing the ribbon perpendicular to the direction of the fabric, I'm thinking it should result in an interesting chevron-like pattern.....I'm using some of the gold lion head buttons that I was going to originally use on hubby's doublet (before I decided to go with clasps) for closures, though we will probably never wear them buttoned up.
