Hello all! I've finally gotten around to finishing my italian gown. Now...I feel like it's still incomplete. I want to add sleeves. I am looking for something easy and fast. I don't need a lot of detail. I saw a picture in the sleeve thread about the button and elastic technique? Can anyone share more details on that?

My hair is thick, curly and kinky. I was thinking of a muffic cap with a snood...but not sure if that goes with an italian inspired dress. Suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks!

I like the second one best, but the first one is almost like making two bracers per arm--very easy. It looks like they tie to the bodice and to each other, but I could be wrong--Italian isn't really my schtick, I just thought these were pretty ;D Good luck and post the outcome in finished projects!
I like the second one too. But I think the bracers might be easier. I have such weird arms though :(

It's reaaaal easy: Just measure the two areas the two sleeve portions will end (say, mid forearm to just below the elbow, and just above the elbow to just below the armpit), draw the two lines of each piece on a piece of graph paper, draw a line connecting the two. Add an inch all around for seam allowance--whammo! Sleeves! If you want, you can add eyelets to the back edges to adjust for weight changes.
If you want to make the second sleeves, just cut out out a standard sleeve and cut a "c" shape where the elbow seams would meet. Sew together, clip the curves, make the lining in the same manner, connect and attach, voila!
At least that would be *my* way of doing it, someone else might have a better method.
I'd make a trapezoid and sew up the the two long sides for a tube. Hem the trapezoid and you'll have a sleeve. :-)
For head gear, either a snood or a simple veil. The Italians weren't into the crazy headgear in the 16th c much - mostly because of how hot it was.
