Don't forget, we are having a special get together this weekend!
Sunday, September 30th at the new campgrounds entrance off of county road 302, from noon till 5 PM. We will have an open house for everyone to see the new campgrounds, Quickie Mart, food vendors, and bathrooms. Food and some drinks will be provided. Come see us and scout out a good camping spot. This is open to anyone, free to get in. There is no camping for this event and not a tour of the Faire itself.
Mike plans to get some pizza, we can provide some drinks, everyone is welcome to bring something.
I'll be bringing an ice chest full of bottled water in ice. Maybe some gatorades as well.
will there be food vendors on site during faire?
az, this is just for the campgrounds...we won't be going inside faire so no food vendors. But it's going to be more like a pot luck. ;D
AH! i thought it hd said that it would be an open house for everyone to see the new campgrounds, the quickie mart, food vendors and flushies.

Tacos? In -my- Renfaire campgrounds? wouldn't that lead to a privy mess...?
* Has never been camping at TRF before so I really don't know the layout beyond the maps, but after hearing stories at Sherwood this weekend, I have a feeling I will be coming away with PTSD... *
*depends how "delicate" you are* ;D

Is that in regards to the tacos or the PTSD from the camping? Because in both regards, I'm pretty tender... Getting better at camping "happenings", but TRF camping sounds like a beast never before seen on this earth or told about in stories.

I shall point you to the Port-A-Potty of Doom post in the This One Time, At Faire Camp thread for what can result from tacos like that. Be ye fairly warned! :P
So I think I'll make some beer bread for this shindig...oh and I'll have my RF pin on so you know it's me.
*Most of us know you... and i feel sorrow for that don't, Lass!* ;)
Any food allergies by anyone attending? I want to make sure and bring something that doesn't kill anyone!

People during Renaissance times didnt have food allergies!! They just died!!
Sorry, just had to. That is very curteous, though.
LOLOL! :D
I know of one person that is allergic to all things wheat/gluten but she is planning to bring something that won't kill her. ;)
Wondering if I should wear my rainboots today for the tour... It rained hard yesterday and last night. Think it's a mucky, muddy mess out there today?
Was told the ground is firm but boots might be a good idea as the grass is still wet. See everyone soon!
Hope everyone had a great walk through the camp grounds. The wife and others called so that I can at least hear the sounds of the camp ground (o:
Anyone take more photos?
Well here are a couple ;D

Thank you, all of you who weathered the damp day and came out to see what improvements have been made.
I hope everyone's fears have been eliminated. I tried to catch everyone wither in the campgrounds or at the Quickie Mart.
If you still have questions, please pass them on.
Mike I didnt get a chance to speak with you today at the campground but did have a quiestion for you. Was there ever any clarification on Participants in the patrons campgrounds? can they come visit with their clan members? Do they have to have a camp pass?

Hey you two! Quit molesting that tree! You may get splinters... :o ;D
*lucky tree..* :D
What's the overall opinion of new grounds from the folk what went?
LOL, I think we are splinter free! :D
Mouse, the general camping area is pretty much the same. It's the new entrance and such that I think is going to throw people off a bit (the people that aren't aware of the change). But I'm sure that will smooth out rather quickly.
Mouse, the only complaint I can imagine at this point might be from the family campers and the physical difference of their area, from shady trees to an open area with new ones. That will improve with time, and there are perimeter areas with trees too.
As for the "regular" campgrounds, rows 1-5 of the overflow parking for camper parking (so campers can take their cars close to the entrance instead of walking all the way from the new back areas) and the rest of overflow row for new camping is definitely going to be different, and I wouldn't say in a bad way, just pointing it out. And as Bonny Pearl said, the new entrance with 24 hr. security booth and, I believe, having the end of the rows in overflow blocked now, will change the constant circling of cars all through the night. All in all, the big changes are several years down the road.
And having flushing privies right by the exit will make the sad drive home on Sunday much nicer.
Word we got from Mike is that no further improvements are planned at this time, and the phase posters in the quicky mart are basically pipe dreams. So, what you see is what you get for the foreseeable future.
As for participants in the campgrounds, in over 20 years of working there, TRF admin has always discouraged participants from going to patrons (for reasons ranging from "because we don't want to break the immersion" to "cause I said so", the former being a complete crock since the giant Miller Lite sign they had on the front gate for some time and the current Budweiser murals and ads do a helluva lot more to break immersion than participants spending time off-the-clock with their friends who already know they work there), but I have never seen it enforced. Generally, it is in the Participant's Handbook to use as a pretext for termination and/or pass revocation if a participant goes out to patrons and does something stupid, but is not actually enforced as a draconian restriction. That being said, if they are driving out to patrons they will still have to buy the camping pass for their vehicle. Most of us just walked it, but if you're hauling a lot of people or plan on going to a restaurant or the like you'll want a vehicle, and thus need the camping pass
thanks Breandan.BTW it was really nice meeting you Sunday as well as Lady Jessica and the others.
As for the improvements to the campgrounds I like what has been done. I can see a few minor glitches that may occur but I agree they will smooth out and improve as people get used to the new set up. As for the other phases I can not say that I am sorry to hear they are pipe dreams.. management needs to keep in mind this is TRF not disneyland!
What did the other phases entail?
Best way to explain is to just post a pic of the PHASE 3 Map. You may have to save it so you can zoom in to read all the words and see exactly what all is there.

There is Premium camping sites, delux camping sites, a LOT of RV parking sites and only about 35 regular camping sites and also a LOT of fututre cabin sites. Its a bit much in my opinion and would take away from the feel and atmosphere of Fair as it has the feel of being too comercialized. I even heard rumor of a Bar.
Aye carumba....I thought there was a bar..I saw a picture of the mart and below there was mention of a bar in the captioning...
I heard talk that they were palnning to have a bar where the mini-minimart is in the regular camping area but there was no bar there currently. They did have a food trailer there though
Apparently the mini-minimart (across the road from the fire circle, next to the food trailer) will be selling alcohol. (The mead was pretty darn good!!)
I heard that there was a new liquor place just up the road as well, yes? Coming from Plantersville? I don't know the roads by name yet...I know Magnolia way and Plantersville way...it's my process.
Yep, a bar right next to the new bbq pit and I think a medic or police bldg lol. Wi-fi from there as well.
I am not sure about a new liquor store close by, perhaps someone can chime in on that. I know that there is one by The Yellow Retriever on 1488. It is just outside of the city limit, The Silver Dollar I believe it is called.
ok. well i guess i will just have to behave in patrons ;). i know of one worker that camps every weekend and has no trouble. no way i am missing the one weekend my clan will be out there.
I have seen the "no participant" rule enforced at least twice. However, those people were idjits & were just asking to get busted. Me, I wear my cloak of invisibility & keep my mouth shut.
These are not the rennies you are seeking.....
...where is that elusive "like" button?...
