First time progress to this Faire (we have been to quite a few others) and looking for any suggestions.
King's feast? (we have done these in Arizona and Minnesota and enjoyed them)
Shows or entertainment not to miss
Food/drink?
Anything else?
I know this is a very open request.
Grammercy
Welcome!
I have not had the chance to catch the Kings Feast but everyone who has in our clan has raved about it. Be sure if you decide to do this to book early as they tend to fill up quickly.
All of the shows are great but our must sees are: Tartanic, Sound and Fury, Iris and Rose, and Cast in Bronze.
Food: oh man where to start>>> The Royal Hamburg is FANTASTIC! So many good things to eat!
Best bit of advice I can give is this is a BIG faire! You can spend all weekend running around and still not see everything. Plan your days to see what shows you can and then shop around that. There is a ton of things going on that are not in the schedule so keep your eyes open!
Thanks for the info, many of the performers we have seen, and we already plan on planning our 2 days.
Kind of concerned about quite a few negatives we have seen on the forum, but really looking forward to our visit
We have wine tasting tickets and asked about parking. What time can we get in the lot - the person we talked to first said 9, then 6. We usually like to arrive at least an hour early - time to finish dressing and a little tailgating :)
Is the opening gate show worth planning for?
People start lining up at the gate to walk in about 8. We normally camp so I am not sure when they open the gate for parking. I have not seen the show myself but a friend did just this past weekend and enjoyed it.
Yes there are some negatives. Overall this is my home faire and you have to take the good with the bad.
Gauwyn I think they open the front gates for parking around 8. However, I have sleep deprivation issues with any faire that starts at 9 so I think we've only ever made it to 1 cannon at TRF! :)
I'm too excited on fair days to sleep late. So you're welcome to find us about 7:30am and have some breakfast.
....I need to remember to buy my wine tasting tickets.
Both times I went last year, I was driving into the parking lot by a little before 07:30, and was one of the first ones there parking in Row 3 (now Row 3 is one of the $10 Preferred Parking Rows). At that time of the morning, there weren't any people directing traffic, but the gates were open...

We were only able to get wine tasting tickets for Sunday.
We will look for you
The Pink Pirate and I will be visiting the first weekend of November. We would welcome you any time. We are easy to spot, well the PP is. Look for a pink pirate coat that is almost glowing with pinkness. (He is NOT hard to pick out in a crowd.) If you see us, feel free to stop by and say hi. ;D
We went last weekend as first timers. I was also concerned about some of the negative things that people were saying, but honestly, the entire festival was fun. We had a blast.
Still 2 weeks away and looking forward to our visit. Lady Stitch, sorry we will miss you and the PP (and the little one).
Hopefully Lady Kett and Sidekick can make it.
Wonder how many others we have met in /Scarby will be there (I know Donna wil be)
I've been reading about the 'new' campground and very confused -- where is best place to camp, two ladies alone, and walking distances is not easy for me, so the least amount of walking is best. . . . I have been there every year for ages but the new pictures have me very confused! Thanks!

I suggest finding a group. Don't know what weekend you are expecting to visit but our group is a family friendly group which often opens its camp to newcomers. We won't be camping again until closing weekend though. There are a couple of others but I'll allow them to introduce themselves (o: Contact me via a PM if you would like more info.
I couldn't get wine tasting tickets at all. But I look forward to seeing you.
... and as for camping diswope, you might start a new thread to find a clan camping that weekend.
Gauwyn: you will enjoy your visit! TRF has plenty for all tastes! The few negatives here are not the majority. Big Festival, much to see and do!
Feel free to come find me in Transylvania. I'm usually a scowling mess, but I don't mean anything by it. Tis the bane of my job :D

Grammercy - really looking forward to our visit!
Looks like we will actually make it to TRF TOMMORROW!! It's been 25 years since we've been here. Really looking forward to it! Maybe we'll see you Gauwyn.

Unfortunately we won't be there until next weekend (10/11). It would have been fun to see you again.
Tomorrow we will be packing up the garb. Huzzah!
I am excited about seeing all of you. ;D
Safe journeys, Gauwyn and DC!
Has anyone deduced a Meet and Greet location (maybe around parade time, by the pavilion?)... would hate to miss the opportunity to properly greet the two of you.
Stalk well...
I thought I heard Indulgences or that area?
M'Lady is already in Dallas (been there since Sunday) and I am headed off on the dragon tomorrow morning.

Concur... I will probably be shooting parade from the corner tree ring near the Pavilion. The good Lady Stalkwell and I will try to drop by in a timely fashion.
Stalk well...
Indulgences is what I saw posted. They havbe wine so I will likely make it between 11:00 and parade.
- Merlin...hope to see you there in 2013. ;D

Are you there just Saturday? I have your number I will call you before cannon
yes, we can only make Saturday. I'll try to remember to keep my phone out until we go up to the gate.
You should try to get into the Feast. I hear it's fun. ;)

I hear that one of Chianti's distant relatives has been known to appear at the King's Feast... ;) ;D
We really enjoyed ourselves, being our first visit. Faire people were most gracious. We had our picture taken more numerous to count. Was at the meet at indulgences, but only met up with Dona Catalina and don Juan, and also met stalkwell.
Met some people out front that we shared some beverage and conversation. Did not find Parking to be any issue ( we arrive early and actually in row 7 by the path were closer than many in preferred parking.
Really liked the sit down pubs and actually ran into a friend from our neck of the wods (cedar rapids, Iowa)
Large and fun Faire, it will take my body a couple days to recuperate :)
Grammercy!,
Glad you had fun! Sorry we couldn't make it! :(
Glad to hear you had a good time!!
Wish I could have spent more time at Indulgences, but I was herding cats at the time, including the good Lady Stalkwell that was under the weather.
Now that you've seen the lay of the land, we expect to see you back here on a yearly basis ;) Forget ye not... there are other faires here to play at as well... I'm pretty sure you will find RF'ers to cavort with on any given day.
Stalk well...
Also want to mention Faire after dark. This was really a great experience.
