Title: Meet -n- Greet Relocation
Post by: Bonny Pearl on October 09, 2012, 09:18:31 AM
So to the surprise of many of us the parade route has changed this year and no longer goes by the PoW.  Completely missed it on Saturday lol.  Where should we meet up now?

It was a surprise to those of us in the parade as well.  We were all confused and flustered.   ;D

Hah! It wasn't just me! Alex and I sat outside the POW pub and were surprised to see the parade not come around. We will have to remember this for our next weekend, AHE.

Well it goes by the Sea Devil, perhaps the deck?

Some of us wheezing old fellows can't stand the smoke anywhere near the Sea Devil.  I'm sure some of the young whipper snappers (like QB) can't stand the smoke either, even on the new deck.  POW was barely tolerable (well, not really, but to see friends I literally sucked it up ;)), but even at thatit was tolerable only for the short term.

Stalk well...

This sucks for the POW... it's a pleasent place to hang out and it has great food & beer selection...

Maybe someone could ask Terre if they've got plans, going forward, to change the route yearly, or every other year?

I was thinking that perhaps the area where Indulgences is would be a good spot.  Lots of seating and shade around that area, mulled wine in the wine shop (yes I am partial lol), chocolate in Indulgences.  Never seen it too crowded there unless it is bitterly cold and everyone is in line for hot chocolate/coffee.

While Sea Devil is fun it would probably be way to crowded of a space to begin with and as a smoker even I have to back away when it gets to be too overwhelming, so I understand Stalkwell's thoughts there.

That is a good spot... not too far from the POW, either, for a quick nip to grab some beers...

Is that the shop on the corner, with the patio and tables with umbrellas?

Yes it is David.  I believe the patio is for two shops.  I was looking at the link to the parade route you posted (thank you btw) and that was really the only area that popped out at me.  A lot more shade there but perhaps higher traffic due to it being so close to the gates.  But being close to the gate... it might be a good spot for new r/f folks, etc.  Anyone else have suggestions? :)

By Indulgences sounds good. My initial thought was somewhere down by the chainmaille shop.  That way those who do the chainmaille show won't have to miss the meet-n-greet anymore. The only problem with that is there isn't much seating over there. The patio by Indulgences/Pavilion area is probably the best place along the parade route for a group our size.

This sounds good to me. I know we won't b there as often as we'd like. I'd had to miss the meet & greet when we do go.

When I walked the parade on Saturday, I thought it was a little strange that it was going in the opposite direction! LOL... Thanks for posting the parade route, David!

Do y'all think we should take a poll?  Isn't there a way to do that on here?

You can't miss it. When you walk in and look straight ahead it's the place with the big purple banners hanging down

Last year there was a nice little wine shop a few doors down to the right that also had some marvelous home baked goodies.

See you on Nov 10!

Five or so of us were there by Indugences this Saturday. Nice large area to stand by the parade route.

I liked the spot.  It was nice to have a lot of tables and shade.  Plus there is live musical entertainment there right after parade.  Perhaps we should give it another test drive this coming weekend and see how it works?  There weren't a whole lot of R/F people out this weekend so I think time will tell if it works for us.  Sound okay to everyone?  :)

Indulgences is way too smokey for me. I am allergic to cigar and cigarette smoke. I was at the Pavillion next door for the parade. Coffee and pastry shop. Sad the parade no longer goes by the Prince of Wales.
