In an uncharacteristic fit of productivity, I should have actually been able to have new garb for both kids complete, not just in time, but with a few days to spare even. And then fate interveined, and I've broken my wrist. Thankfully its my off hand. Tristan's new shirt is cut out, and ready to assemble. Has anyone had any luck sewing one handed, or should I just shelve it?
Ouch! You should check in with Isabella--she has stitches in her sewing hand at the moment. I'm wondering if you're currently on any pain medication, and it's clouding your thoughts! You may not be physically ABLE to do anything with that arm for a bit. If, however, it's not actively bothering you, it wouldn't hurt to pin and sew a simple seam, just to see if you can manage. It will absolutely slow you down.
I totally understand the mindset of being nearly finished and having to push off projects for next year. Yesterday was our last day for the season, and it rained all Friday and Saturday. I had to scrap the last two outfits I was planning--so I never got to wear two of my newer projects. I gave myself a break on finishing my new shirt... but it's a bittersweet feeling, isn't it? (It's probably a little more bittersweet for us this year, as we had a death in the family and some of our fairgoing friends are getting older, and we're acutely aware right now that for some of us, there may not be a next season!)
This is more philosophical than you wanted, I'm sure... but now I'm trying to mentally separate my hobby of sewing garb... from the hobby of going to Fair. They overlap, but one is not dependent on the other. I can't let not finishing garb keep me from enjoying Fair... and I'm trying not to let Fair being over keep me from sewing!
If you think Tristan will have just as much fun in his old garb (or, gasp--something you buy!), then give your poor broken wrist a break! If, however, you will lose your mind with nothing to work on (particularly during those dance classes!), give it a try. There is (usually) always next year. :)
The more I've been thinking, the more unlikely it seems. And for our last faire of the year, it was going to be just me and the kids. However it pains me to say, I think keeping track of two little ones, and dealing with the crowds with a fresh cast just might be too much for me.
Ouch, in more ways than one.

I finally got the cast off. Hopefully with a little PT I'll be sewing in about 4 weeks.
In a positive light, waiting till next year, you can make the garb in a size that will fit them, in case they grow over the winter. If you made the garb before faire's end and they wore it once, it might no longer fit next year. At least now you can make something that will fit all season.

Here's wishing you a lovely physioterrorist! Mine (for my knee problem) was great. The ones that sorted Himself out after carpal tunnel surgery were also great. The main thing is to do the exercises as and when they tell you, and stop when it hurts!
