I am about to work with a Robin hood play. As I only have 4 weeks to costume everyone I am on the look out for good quality that time period ladies dresses. I have no problem making the dresses but making 6 gowns, plus all the guys tunics and doublets in less than 4 weeks.... not likely to happen. Therefore I will need to purchase some items.
Are there any vendor's you recommend? Any one have used ones that could be purchased?
The concept we are going for is that we raided the back lot's costume department. We don't' want anything Halloween looking cheap but if it looks like someone pulled it out of their repertoire theater, all the better.
I am also on the look out for a nice harlequins outfit.

Historical enterprises has some lovely stuff. However, I just make a bunch of A-shaped tunics that are parti-colored and add a belt and headscarf. Very simple and very nice looking for the stage.

Is there anywhere locally where you could actually do this? Google "costume rental" in your area, or reach out to any other theaters you might have connections with.
What is your budget? It seems like buying really nice pieces is going to be cost prohibitive, but if you turn to ebay, you might get lucky. The current bid on this dress (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Medieval-Renaissance-Gown-Dress-Costume-BLUE-Wedding-M-/370754018633?pt=US_Costumes&hash=item5652a95d49) is under $10. I wouldn't call it accurate, but it's not *hideous.*
I sent you a PM.
Costume rental is not possible because of the length of time necessary for the show. Most of the theaters around here do not have any stock in this type of time period. It is either purchase or make. Right now I need to purchase, or make 4 dresses. The I will need 5 men's Surcoats. Thankfully Surcoats aren't difficult to make, just to decorate correctly. Then I will need 3 doublets, and then several tunics.
LR I got your message and responded.
If you know of anyone looking to get rid of Surcoats, shirts, or the like, let me know.
