Title: Calontir Trims?
Post by: LadyStitch on February 22, 2013, 10:46:20 AM
Hey have any of you ordered from Calontir Trims recently?  I tried going to his website and it seems down. I REALLY want to order trims from him for my Robin Hood show to put on the Prince's and Maid Marion's outfits.  I would prefer not having to go through Joanns.  They are on the pricy size and not much selection.
The other issue is quick turn around.  I have to have the costumes made and ready to go by 3/23 at the absolute latest, and ideally much sooner for publicity shots.

I can get to the website, but the buttons show code instead of images. Perhaps he's redesigning his site.

I have not orfered from Calontir Trims in many years. i know the quality of his trimsa re very good.

Have you tried Cheep Trims? Pillaged Village? You might find ribbon trims there of the same quality for a bit less or similar in price.

I was looking at some trim over there last week, and everything was normal then.  I agree that he's probably updating the site or having issues with the server.

After getting seriously burned a couple years ago on some trims ( Guy took 6 weeks to even start to ship my order for 4 yards of trim. I was not pleased.)

I'll check out Cheeptrims, and Pillage Village and see if I can't find some trims there.  One person I talked to thought he might be doing something for Gulf Wars and doesn't know it is down.

Stitch, that was going to be my guess, as well--that he's off at an event at the moment. Usually he announces that on the site (we'll be at XXX on such-and-such a date, and not filling orders), but the few times I've ordered from him, things *have* been a little slower than I'd expect (especially with all the back and forth necessary to even place an order).

I've honestly had the best (= fastest & cheapest) shipping from merchants on etsy. I haven't ordered the specific type of trim you're looking for, so I don't have a merchant to recommend, but overall my etsy shipping has been exceptional, with the added convenience of good communication. :)

The time I had alot of trouble with trims it was from a company recommended on Pattern Review.com.  Supposedly they were great for bulk orders.  I wanted a whole roll of a trim, but because it was less than $50 they would only ship to me when they got enough orders to my part of the country to warrant shipping it to me.

I have always gotten great service from Calontir, but after half his stock was stolen 2 years ago some of his service has been a bit slow.

I found similar trims for my needs at Pillaged Village.  They also had the belts I needed for $20 each, so it is a win win.  Especially since they have free rush shipping over $50.

Since I got away from flat trims, the last time I ordered from him was about 2 years ago. He used to show up for Warlord (SCA) event. But I haven't seen him there in a few years either.

I just ordered a bunch of trim from Calontir at the end of last month. Turnaround was just as quick as always. I had my trim within a week. I cannot recommend this site with enough enthusiasm to do it justice! I've ordered from it multiple times in the last couple of years, and every single time the service has been good and the shipping extremely timely. Love love love it.

I just checked the site, and while some of the menu images aren't working, all the links are fine, the search is working, and the images of the trim show up just fine.
