Title: The Center of Sherwood
Post by: Johnny Stache on March 14, 2013, 06:54:34 AM
Sherwood has now been around for a long enough time for me to ask this question.

Has a "center" begun to develop as far as activity, meeting place, place where most Rennies and campers congregate etc.

IMHO the  literal center of Sherwood has to be where the main paths meet, where the one lone chair sits under that pine tree, where things start to go up hill directly west from the joust field.

I like to think no.  There are now two pubs, one smoking and one not for smoke.  This will obviously attract the appropriate clientele.  There is a pub just to the left (as entering the main gate) that many congregate at.  There are many different meeting places depending upon who you know or want to know and what interests you.  Although, at the end of the day, I believe it is custom to meet at the Trip for the sing along to close out that days festivities.

I sort of always thought of the Seven Sisters as the 'central' gathering place, but more realistically you are more likely to run into folks you know at the Three Stags or the Trip to Jerusalem

Maybe think of Seven Sisters as the heart or soul, but Trip to Jerusalem has been the "center" in the past.

we so appreciate the core patrons of sherwood realize the significance of the seven sisters.

i sit almost daily within that circle just to feel the magic and the spirit which is sherwood.

we create our sacred places, our rites and rituals.  and from our energies, they become such.

This. Except that Three Stags now kind of splits things up between there and Trip To Jerusalem.

What he said/\

I'm not what you'd call a very 'spiritual person'. But at the risk sounding like one,  there's no denying that Sherwood is result of a lot of positive thoughts by the folks involved at all levels. My father observed this on his first trip there, (first trip to any faire) he said he knew it would be a success because everyone cares so much.  I've always considered those stones the locus of that energy.

I would concur that the locus for the energy of Sherwood is, and must be, the seven sisters, and that naturally the Ye ole trip is where we all come together as evening and closing approaches.

The Three Stags also has certainly become a meeting/gathering place for clan and guild and otherwise hardcore rennies during the day.

But I still wonder if I'm very far off as far as the current "Physical" center of Sherwood goes i.e acreage, latitude and longitude wise.
Again I speak of the one lone, high backed chair under the pine tree that sits right smack dab in the middle of the main crossroads of the Greenwood, directly west of the jousting field.

I'm really just supremely curious, anybody here fond of maps and charting??  ;D
