Anyone know of anyone that makes period wine skins?
Google is being of no help on this one!
Etsy has several leather canteens (http://www.etsy.com/search?q=leather%20canteen&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US) that could pass a period wineskins (the modern term - first used around 1815- which is probably why you are having trouble! :) )
For examples in period art, check out http://www.larsdatter.com/canteens.htm (http://www.larsdatter.com/canteens.htm)
There are some leather vendors at Faires who make Bota Bags that are more period than the ones you see on google, Rena's leather at TRf,
and the leather shop just downhill from the gate at TRF. I can't remember its name though.

Also! If you are going for a more "tribal" look ( Mayhap a fae, or troll, or wanderer or whatnot ) drinking gourds are now sold at Basham Clan at Sherwood, and right around the corner from that bar/chocolate place at TRF. They have them hanging outside, and I'm pretty sure it's the same person that is selling them at TRF. Alex has one to go with his garb that can hold 60 or so ounces! I have one just because they're awesome ( Alex's is plain, but mine is painted with almost a Greco-Roman wave pattern ). They are nice, well priced, and pretty sturdy within reason.
sorry, should have said bota bag... closer to what I'm going for
