Title: What is "triple velvet?"
Post by: gem on June 03, 2013, 03:33:26 PM
As opposed to any other kind of velvet?  I'm looking for lightweight velvet/velveteen for guards on a linen skirt (hence the lightweight!), and found a listing on ebay for acetate/nylon "triple velvet," which looks like it's not particularly hefty/thick:

(http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Triple-Velvet-GOLD-Fabric-44-Sold-By-The-Yard-/00/s/NDUwWDYwMA==/$(KGrHqJ,!n4E-u-UdL!PBPypFONU)g~~60_3.JPG)

...and describes itself as "much more lighter to the feel than the double velvet." (Which also raises the question, what is "double velvet?")

I thought I knew my velvets, velveteens, velours, and stretch velvets pretty well, but this one is new to me.

Anyone?

Gramercy!

A quick Google tosses out triple velvet as "a plush, non stretch, napped fabric blended with Acetate & Nylon." (From here (http://www.voguefabricsstore.com/Triple-Velvet-/)). Beyond that I...have no idea.

Double velvet appears to be paint (http://www.plascon.co.za/products/product.asp?SectionID=1&RangeID=1). ;)

Not exactly.  It has to do with the weave.  It's a triple weave velvet which means 3 shuttles across the loom rather than one (I think.  I'm still learning weaving.).
