Title: What to lace kirtle with
Post by: insidiousraven on June 06, 2013, 03:21:30 PM
Ok, I searched for this and couldn't find anything, though I'm sure it's been discussed.  What type of string or chord do you use to close your dresses and kirtles with?  I've been using a shoelace, but I'd like something a bit more accurate.

thanks!

I still use a shoelace - mainly due to the strength factor.

Lucet cord is considered the most accurate.  You take a thick piece of cord and make a series of knots out of it to create a string of cording.  http://kws.atlantia.sca.org/photos/lucet/ (http://kws.atlantia.sca.org/photos/lucet/)

I love these people. I can match almost any of my garb with a colored shoelace.

Wow, Dona C--that's a GREAT site! I like the waxed cotton shoelaces b/c they fit through hand-worked eyelets more easily, but around here I can only find them in brown. That site has them in 13 colors, but even better: available with brass aglets (instead of plastic). WIN!
