Hello all,
Amy and I are looking to expand our garb closet. Where were are working are toward some pirate gear. I'm thinking along the lines of the Dread Pirate Roberts and Amy is looking toward this -

But evidently we missed the bandwagon. Can't find any decent patterns that aren't cheap looking or (please forgive me) tarted up.
Also looking for a Rob Roy style doublet pattern. Amy found some material that has a pattern that would look awesome in a Rob Roy for my kilt.
Any help will be appreciated,
Jim
First, probably a better question for the sewing side of the forum and not the garbing side.
Second, the picture you show is of someone wearing handkerchief hemmed broomstick skirt, a peasant style blouse, a pink scarf, and a modern looking waist cincher (which was first worn in the 1860's). It would probably be easier to go to the thrift store for most of the pieces. And cheaper.
Third, for Rob Roy, I'm going to assume you mean like this:

It's Hollywood so you probably won't find anything exactly like it in any period patterns and the Hollywood patterns tend to have a shelf life of about 5 years. (Ie, this never existed until 1995) That being said, if you are set on wearing it, I'd get http://www.simplicity.com/p-2198-men-costumes.aspx (http://www.simplicity.com/p-2198-men-costumes.aspx), make the frock coat slightly shorter and the sleeves detachable. However, since the pattern was designed for cloth and the movie looks like they used leather, you might want to do a few mock ups out of a heavier fabric than you would normally used.
Will do.
On the Rob Roy what I am picturing is what a couple of the dealers -
