So faire is coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm digging through my closet looking for my gear - when I happen to stumble upon some treasure! You see, sometimes I buy or make a new items at faire and after the season I pack it all up for next year. But very often I'll forget about the new item and get excited about it all over again when I unboxed it after a long break.
This year I discovered 3 or 4 bottles of Loki and 1 large bottle of Demon Rum I had made in August of last year! Considering the ingredients, I'm sure it will still be good to drink, don't you? Anyway what a great surprise for faire this year!
Haver you ever discovered a surprise after unpacking your faire gear?
Hahahaha, yes actually. The best things I have found so far are a pair of fairy wings and a dress. Looking at those items jump started my memory of what I did during the run of that season.
Not purchased at, but purchased for, faire - Lucius Malfoy's swagger stick, found in a corner of the closet while doing my packing up. Come on, TRF!
Aye, this is one of Faire's pleasure... finding a piece of garb you've forgotten or a memory, sometimes... like a favour granted you by a friend you've not seen since last year at Faire.
Faire ended, last September. This June, I pulled out my stuff to look for a few specific items to wear in parades. In my leather pouch, the following items:
1. Half a book of food coupons
2. Lighter I have been looking for
3. Two smokes left in a pack
4. And a $5 bill.
Sean
How FUNNY!!!!
I just found this topic, right after I found the HONEY STICKS that I have been looking for since TFR last year, (2008)HA HA!!!!

thanks, now I have to go slaughter a goat to get that image out of my head.
The other night one of the cats comes running into the living room. He playing with something red. It's a fresh cayenee pepper, he bites it and jumps back. He plays with it a while until he knocks it under the dvd shelf. I move the case and find the pepper, a ton of hair ties, and a faire favor.
I found a $20 bill and about $13 in gold one dollar coins in a belt pouch that I haven't seen since last season. Beer money! :D
oh, SWEET, DB!!!
Thats it! I gotta go look in my garb box and my pouch. (keep your fingers crossed)
funny you say that, Joyce Ann
after DB posted that, I did exactly that... but NO LUCK
:'(
honestly- I found an entire DRESS i forgot i made! need to go through ALL the garb and get it hanging up and pressed and ready to go- and altered!!!
My favorite things to rediscover are anything written - I have random secret admirer notes, notes from friends about how much we'll miss eachother, invitations to parties, letters of advice and words of wisdom. And I find them everywhere - in pockets, baskets, jewelery boxes, all over. And I should really put them all in a scrapbook, but I'm lazy, and anyways, I like re-discovering them!
Hahaa I have found money stashed in a pouch, phone numbers, email addresses see I am not avoiding those people Iam just a ditz
in my train case that I use i have found like 12 bucks in gold dollars, I just dump the stuff I collect in my bodice in that thing its amazing what it collects lol
I love those holy crap i forgot I had that moments!
Awe you guys are lucky. See, currently my garb closet is more like a garb drawer in my costume dresser (Yes I have an entire dresser devoted to costuming because I love it that much and yes I know garb isn't a costume, nor do I have anything remotely noble so I don't worry about hanging it up) and I didn't have room in my other drawers so I had my LARPing outfits in there as well and since I LARP every month I see all my faire items every month.
On the other hand, I don't mind because then I get a bit of the memories and hints at all the good times a little bit each month all year long and that is really enjoyable.
Though one thing I do save and tend to forget where I put them but then find again and love looking through is the programs. I don't know if this is true for all faires, but the ones I go to have programes with a list of all the activities as well as vendors and actors and such and I always get them and I love looking back at them going "I went to that show! It was excellent."
ok, so last night I DID find something useful in my pouch... but alas... 'tis a story I cannot tell on here...
not that it's obscene, foul, or anything like that
but I cannot tell it here
>:(
Gee not from you ;)
lol ok, so my reputation proceeds me... but honestly, it's not that it's obscene
I can tell you, but I can't post it... God, it's not sounding any better that way, either!
ok, giving up here...
You want that shovel now or later?
cuz that hole is getting pretty deep ;) :-*
Changing a flat tire, I found a reeeeaaaaally nice scepter pin someone gave me last season.
Now, if only I could find $200.00 to pay my past-due electric bill...

OMG! I SWEAR it's not dirty...
standby for a renmail
Got it!
I gotta raz you! Its a Wenches job lol
a flirtatious wench's job, at least...
Found change, an auction ticket, and a piece of a wrapper from I don't even know what in my pouch. Of course, if Ilook in my van, there are things that live in there, ready for faire at the drop of a hat. Like our bucket toilet thingie.

There's another kind?
...how about an on-again-off-again relationship? :D
I always just have a hard time finding everything. Anything forgotten about would be a bonus.
I need a system.
I tend to find money left over from the last faire. ;D
Sweet, Heart-warming answer: I find happiness every time I open my ren-stash...because faire is the place where I am truly happy...no matter WHAT else is going on in my life. Despite the loss of loved ones from faire, job losses, minor (or major) "dramas" that flare up...faire is ALWAYS a source of unbridled happiness for me.
(Awwwww, yea, saccarine huh? :P)
OK, realistic and (also true) answer....I found a 1/4 full bottle of RUM. :o :o :o HTF did we leave RUM uncomsumed at the end of faire?!?!?!? I guess this is what happens when you can't make the last weekend ('cause you have to work at the last minute and thought you would need the rum one more weekend than you did ;D)

Somehow I just don't believe you ever made it home from faire with more than a drop of rum!

Heeeeeyyyyy.... I'm drinkin' CIDER there! ;D
I found a $20 in a secret pocket on the inside of my bodice
I also found a couple of yards of fabric that was rolled up in my gown for some odd reason
and I found candy that I purchased last year on the way to fair in one of my pouches, lol.

Faire does seem to have that effect on a lot of us. :P
I always find stuff I thought I'd lost. I found the first bodice I ever bought in my parents' closet a few weeks back. Haha
Ok..I went 'hunting'!
I found a ROCK.... :(.....I felt like Charlie Brown at Halloween!!! ;D

I tend to find money left over from the last faire. ;D
you have money left over after Faire?
How on EARTH do you accomplish this?
Cause its usually only a few gold dollars left over. None left this year though :-[
I was getting my garb ready for this weekend, and whaddya know? I found a 5 dollar bill, and about 1.50 in change! Woo! Free money!
EDIT - Strike that... Free BEER Money!
Sometimes I find a few bucks in my pouches. But mostly I find weird bits of paper and faire dirt. MMMM. faire dirt.
searched through all my stuff...
found a dollar
but not a hottie
:(
Getting ready for Scarbough I found a brooch and a dollar bill in my bag, nothing particularly good or funny.
I went to the beach last week with some friends and left them with the car while i went to the bathroom, when i came back I found my friend sitting in the sand wearing my corset. I was glad to see him in it cause I couldnt figure out where the damned thing went!
I found my good makeup brush! YAAAAAAAY!!!!!!
Going through my faire box last night I found a bottle of mead...no clue how old it is, I am guessing at least 5 yrs...not sure how it has managed to not be consumed already... ???
Money, usually money. Gold dollars mainly. Once I found $100 that I didn't spend out of walk-around money. This last year I found a set of car keys I thought I lost. Now that my daughter is mobil, she gathers glass stones (faerie gems), and I usually end up with a few of those in my pouch.
Hmmmm out BBQ spit still had what looked like some scraps of meat from last season. Not a good find, lol!
Getting ready for faire this year I noticed that my green belt was looking faded and worn, so I decided to buy another one. Later I opened my pouch to find a beautiful new green belt that I had bought last year and forgot all about. Saved me some mead money. ;D
I was helping break down our site after this weekend at the Dubuque Renaissance Faire, and was trying to find the King's goblet. I opened the lid to the little table with a fabric storage compartment under it and found... my son's belt and leather pouch that had turned up missing at the end of the Des Moines Faire last year! He was very happy to find it, as was I. ;D
Well I just found a bottle of raspberry Loki I made... at least 2 years ago. I can't recall but I know it was leftover after last season from the previous year. I'm sure it's still good.... (right?)
try, BETTER!!!
Was putting together my basket for Scarby this year and found I still had a little bit of my apple pie loki in my flask from TRF... now THAT was a happy find! (gotta make more!)
A walking stick from several years ago that I forgot I bought.
LOL! Well I didn't find it, but a friend of ours found it in with her stuff. A necklace & pendant that I wore two years ago and fell in love with. It is about an inch and a half in diameter silver knotwork piece. Absolutely gorgeous. Thought that it has accidentally been lost or placed with our goodwill donations sometime back. Then just two days ago I receive a text message with a picture of it asking "Is this yours?". I was completely ecstatic!
I found some old faire favors stashed in a purse that I had quit using. Brought back some memories.
Last year we did the wine tasting at Scarby, and got a pair of the crystal goblets with the Cat & Fiddle logo etched in them. Thought they were really special! Got home and were putting them away and found another pair of the etched goblets in the cabinet. We have no memory of when we got them!
On one of my very first trips to TRF, I got home and was counting my money (back in those days I had money to spare :P) and I found out I had gotten a dollar back as change with "I was at the 2004 Texas Renaissance Festival" stamped on it, i loved it!
I put it in my old wallet and would always try to carry it with me when I went to any faire. I thought I had accidentally spent it a few years ago, but one of the good things about moving is I found my old wallet with the dollar still in it! I got to take it with me back to TRF this season, and it shall join me forever more at any faire, pending I don't lose it again ;D
Every year I find ye olde Avaloch pounds, the purple Monopoly-like money used to buy food @ GLMF. This year I was pleased to find a couple of favors and some jewelry I thought I had lost for good.
How about stuff you don't find? I can't find 2 pairs of shoes that I bought at TRF. I'm sure they will turn up eventually.

I bought a fan at the St Louis Ren Faire a couple years ago, and it took me around three moves and 1.5 yrs until I found it again, tucked into the side of my laptop bag.
I bought this yummy purple and gold chalaice from wonderous works of wood. I used it one season. Then some how it disappeared. The PP said it went with us to NZ. It wasn't in the stuf in NZ. He thought it was with the stuff we left in storage. Nope. We can not find it any where.
A large locket made of an intact clam shell bound with brass. I bought it with the intention of making it into a mirror case with my pirate stuff, then misplaced it before I could glue in a mirror. I'll use it this year.
While sorting stuff to be put away until fall I can across a redwood lacquered tasting cup that I don't really remember buying.
You ever find stuff that folks asked you to hold onto for them, then you BOTH forgot you had it?
Now I just gotta remember to give it back when I see them this year..... ;)
The Queen bought me a jar of King's Candy (sweetened Jalapenos from the Pepper Lady) that I put on a shelf and forgot about. It was August (my birthday month) when I found them. I ate the whole jar with Pepper Jack cheese and Ritz crackers in 3 days... well... 2 days really. Great reminiscence of Faire!
When we returned from Scarby with what we thought were our first commemorative wine glasses from the Cat `n Fiddle wine tasting, I found another pair of the glasses in the cabinet. Neither of us remember when we got them. Did/do they sell those glasses in the souvenir shop?
I had remembered looking at a pouch at SWFF that had a locking mechasim on the front ( Lost my phone one night sitting around the Seven Sisters waiting for the fire dancers at end of Faire. Luckily someone picked it up, thought it was my husband's, and turned it into Lost and Found ) but I couldn't remember buying it. Took out my leather belt a few days ago to garb up around the house, and lo and behold not only was it sitting on my ring belt, but it also had my druid necklaces and sunscreen placed inside.
The things our minds choose to forget when it comes to faire.. I guess our harddrives have to make room for all those faire songs somehow.
I hope we're not all kleptomaniacs. ;D

If I am, I am a horrible one. I pass up taking numerous beautiful adornments, foods, artwork, dresses, hats, ect for a leather pouch that I think was around 15 bucks.
I shall have to chastise my subconscious roundly and tell it, " Garb first, leave the pouches for the weaker ones!"
I wish I could find my first bodice that I bought from faire back in 2005. I seemed to have lost it last year when I bought a new one. Maybe it will pop up around the house somewhere, at least, that is what I am hoping. xD
A 1943 steel penny in the previous season's tips.
My son keeps leaving his 'sticks' around faire. I will find them on the ground predictibly throughout the days he is on site. I find it funny that so far, no one has bothered to 'ground score' them.
I think it is because they are nothing to most, but, mean something to him.
You would think... if they mean that much he'd watch them closer, but, he is a boy and Don Juan and Miguel and the Fire whip guy are very consuming.
4 gold dollars.
