Let's see, I once drove like 7-8 hours with a small guild to go to a small faire in the middle of nowhere. It was raining so it took us a bit longer than that to get there. We left Friday afternoon and arrived around midnight, did fair for the weekend, then turned around and drove back. It rained almost the whole faire. All in all I think we were at faire almost as much as we were on the road!
Well so far it's 93 miles or about 1.5 hours. But if all goes well I will and Toki will be driving 1011+ miles for one. (TRF or BUST)
At that point, and with gas the way it is, wouldn't it just be cheaper/faster to fly?
The farthest I have traveled was to Houston for Texas Renaissance Fair, about 375 miles from home. Went down on a Friday, attended the faire on Saturday and drove back on Sunday. It made for a very enjoyable (but tiring) weekend. Although that was quite a few years ago, I would like to do it again if I can get my car converted over to electricity or steam lol
I've traveled from Nashville to Houston for TRF (and the first RenDevous)...
That's not the longest around here by a long shot. I think that Festmum has the record, since she now is traveling from BWI (British West Indies) when she attends Faire.
I travelled from Michigan to Florida to attend BARF. (But I'll admit BARF was a side trip, not the main reason for visiting Florida.) Our "home" fair is two hours away from home.
Oh I hear that. My "home" faire is 4.5 hours away.
ALL THE WAY!!!
But seriously I have only been to one faire so far which is a three hour drive, one way.
I would drive up to say 6-9 hours to attend a faire assuming I would stay at a hotel the night before the faire. However if I was waking up early to drive to attend the faire the same day I would say 3-4 hours is the maximum drive I would do assuming I will spend the night after the faire at a hotel and would not have to drive back in the evening. I don't think I would take a flight to attend a faire.
Regards,
CB
The Marquis and I are dedicated and devotional fans of MNRF. We travel over 2,000 miles each Labour Day Weekend to share in the joy of the renaissance festival with the great and true and wonderful friends that we have there. We bring our best and greatest friends along with us when we (and they) can.
Isn't that what we are all about? It's never about how far we travel but what great friends we have met along the way.
That quality of life could never be measured in a question such as this...it is of an infinite value in my mind and can't be measured in mileage.
I'll go to the ends of the universe for my slice of heaven on earth.
To Scarby, from Houston it's about a 3 1/2 hour drive, as I recall. It's around an hour from home to TRF. Lady de Laney, when are you planning to visit TRF? SQUEE! - I look forward to meeting you and your better half.
Well...it used to be about a 45 min car ride. NOW, it's a 10 min bike ride, 20 min ferry boat ride, 3-4 hour car ride, a night at the parents and THEN a 45 min car ride. Repeat in reverse to get home again.
Well for a regularly scheduled faire its 8 hours to Carolina Renaissance Faire in Charlotte once a year, but we are currently planning on visiting Kansas City Renaissance Faire in October of this year assuming that the prices on gas mellow some.
Farthest for me was from Cleveland to Tampa to attend BARF. I flew, and the whole trip centered around the faire, though I loved the warm weather and going to the beach in March. 8)
I would absolutely travel long distances to attend faire, but chances for next year currently look slim with gas prices and the spike in airfare. I'd love to go to one of the California faires someday.

Yes it is cheaper, but how do you get a Farthingale and swords on a plane and all the garb. When you where a noble dress that fills a storage box on it's own, then that makes it harder.Toki and I plan on finding 2 to join us. So far we have 1 almost definate and 1 possible. The gas for each is much less than a flight. A flght non stop is about $250 one way, then there is a rental car from Houstan to TRF and back and forth as we are sleeping in a hotel that we we get better rst and can have hot showers.
In the end driving is cheaper. Now if it was me all alone, flying would be it and I'd have to find me another plane just to cary my dress LOL
The furthest faire I've been to is Shrewsbury in Oregon, 3000 miles from home. I have to admit, though, that I was going to Seattle for a conference. I chose to fly in to Portland, go to faire, drive on to Seattle, and then drive back to Portland to come home.
Of course, for me getting there is as much fun as the destination. That trip also included driving the Coastal Highway, the Bremerton Ferry, and Pike Street Market. But it was faire that took me through Portland instead of the direct flight to Seattle.
Maryland to Scarby for one day of faire.
From independence mo.to the Sterling Renaissance Festival 1150 miles
6 hours, 400 miles one-way from Minneapolis to Bristol, as many of the 9 weekends of the run as I can, so far the number to beat is 6.
It's not the faire closest to my home, but it Is my Home Faire, and worth every penny!!!
Dayna
We just drove back from Colorado (Mon & Tues), and it was about 875 miles from Castle Rock to our driveway. We did visit both sets of parents on the way, which added about 110 miles (Mapquest shows it at 764 miles.)
From Little Rock to Plantersville for TRF about 580 miles one way.
As far as driving in distance, these are the top three I have gone -
Arizona Faire - 27.5 hours - 1,779 miles
Sarasota Florida Faire - 20.5 hours - 1,312 miles
Maryland Faire - 18 hours - 1,100 miles
Shortest distance
Bristol Faire - 20 minutes - 30 miles
Clisto
the closest faire is about an hour away, but we're gonna try to get to parf and mdrf, each about three hundred miles away.
Driving - the furthest is Houston to Hammond, LA (outside New Orleans) for LARF. Furthest overall - loaded myself and ALL my gear onto a flight to Minnesota for the 2007 RenDevous. I routinely make the 3-1/2 hour Houston-Waxahachie (Dallas) run for Scarborough.
Ditto Var on the Houston-Waxahachie run. My furthest to just a faire will be Maryland for Labor Day, but I've hit NYRF when I'm up at my parents after Pennsic, which is a 1400-mile plane ride day 1 (to NJ), then a 6 hour drive day 2 (through Penn.).
Flew from Mpls to Phoenix to visit friends and see AZRF
Flying can be cheaper than driving...extra days on the road mean extra meals/hotel (unless you 'gonzo' it and arrive tired as heck) When flying into Denver remember they have accomadations for 'ski-tubes'. They typically do not charge extra for them or golf bags (check airline policy). You can get the bulkiest of garb and assorted weaponry in those things!
Biggest thing is time. Flying can shave days off a trip. I can leave on a Friday, Faire on Saturday/Sunday, and still be back to work on Monday. That makes CoRF and TRF possible for me. They aren't frequent flyer miles, they're frequent Fair miles!
Home faire is 3 hours away.... TRF from VA, AZRF from VA, GLMF from VA - and prolly the worst travel was from VA to just TNRF.
I like Scotsman's theory this year, if it is more than 4 hours, we will fly!
And as far as getting garb/swords - UPS them to the hotel - I actually UPS everything so I don't have to check any bags (but then again, my lil sis owns a UPSStore)
From Houston to Murfeesbourgh Tenn.
Last fall we left on Thursday night and drove through the night to be in North Carolina Friday night so we could hit a Highland Games in Hendersonville on Saturday (Rogues anyone?), and then went on Sunday to Carolina RF, and drove through the night home, arriving Monday afternoon.
This year I'm flying to PARF for a Labor Day IWG invasion, and MDRF the first weekend of October for my birthday.
Our "home" faire is 3 hours away, and we can only go on Sundays, so we try to get there at least 5 or 6 times throughout the run.
In May, we drove 10 1/2 hours each way to TN for the RenDezvous/Menage Ette Trois. Worth every minute of it!
In 2007, we planned our vacation around an invasion of BARF. Left NW Illinois on Thursday evening after work, got to Tampa on Friday evening, about 22 hours on the road (stopped in the wee hours of the morning for a few hours rest, not counted in the 22 hours). Spent Saturday & Sunday at BARF, on Monday drove to the east coast of Florida where we used to live, and Tuesday morning began the drive home, got home late Wednesday evening. It was over 3,000 miles round trip. A wondrous faire with wonderful people. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
From Barrie, Ontario (an hour north of Toronto) to:
Sterling RenFest 451 km, 280 miles, 4.5 hours, plus the delay at the border
Michigan RenFest 480 km, 299 miles, 5 hours, plus the delay at the border
Great Lakes Medeival Faire 483 km, 300 miles, 5 hours, plus the delay at the border
Pennsylvania RenFest 787 km, 490 miles, 8.5 hours, plus blah blah blah
Ohio RenFest 818 km, 508 miles, 8.5 hours
Maryland Renfest 924 km, 577 miles, 10 hours
Our Home Faires are Sterling and Michigan, I suppose.
We have done there-Faire-back one day trips to Great Lakes, Michigan and Sterling, although a there-stay overnight-Faire-back format is preferred.
We have also done Ohio-Michigan three day weekends.
Maryland is usually a four day weekend, although we have done a Maryland-Pennsylvania four day weekend.
Severn, MD here, just south of Baltimore, just west of Annapolis, just north of D.C., sort of bracketed by a triangle of the three.
Farthest we've flown is to beautiful Waxahatchie for Scarby.
Farthest drive would be Raliegh for NCRF.
Headed for Delaware tomorrow...not far at all...
The farthest I've flown is from Tulsa to Houston or Denver. I did several things on both of those trips though. The farthest I've driven is 2 hours. I too appreciate the drive. I try to avoid turnpikes and take scenic backroads like Route 66. I also play a Celtic cd during my trip to get in the mood. Huzzah!
From here in FL, I do MDRF every Labour Day... TNRF every Memorial Day and have done NYRF and King Richard's up in New England.
The home Faire is only 40 miles from home.
I went to TRF a couple of years ago. Otherwise I drove three hours to attend TWIG for one day last month.
My home faire is 25 minutes away. And the only other faire I've been to is GLMF, it was a 4 hour drive.
We travel about 3.5 hours to get to either of the faires in St. Louis MO (GSTLRF) and Franklin TN (TNRF)
We also go to the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, which is about 8.5 hours.
Home faire- Scarby is just an hour. But last summer, on the way with family, I stopped for CORF, which is a little over 700 miles about 12 hours. The trip to TRF last year took about 4 hours.
And for Rendevous next year, the plan is to fly to Maryland...and that'll about 1400 miles. Can't wait!

LOL girlfriend , and first officer...is that why the ship has been tilting to one side lately..all those gowns you have aboard ! ;D ;D
Lets see Sterling is a 2 hour drive from where I live.
New York Ren faire is 6 hours.
Pennslyvannia is 7 to 8 hour. But we usually make a mini vacation out of it and stay the weekend.
I hope to add some other faires to the agenda next year.
From Windsor, Ontario, our home Faire (MIRF) is only about an hour away, plus whatever delay we get at the border. We haven't been to any other Faires so far because of work and funds, but eventually we do hope to give MayFaire and Silver Leaf a try.
*chuckling* if we only count driving, that's Tennessee to date (10 hours). TRF is in the plans for this year and we're pretty sure that driving will be the mode of transportation.
Our "big" home faire is BARF (7 weekends), a 2 hour drive each way and we're there as often as possible. Our small home faire (only one weekend) is Lady of the Lakes which is only 10 minutes.
The furthest we have traveled is CRF 950mi from Rochester MN. We usually go to Bristol once each year 320mi. Our home fair is MRF only 100mi. The new WIRF is 110 so we go there once a year too.
We flew from Toronto to Maryland for the Renn fest there. Next time we will drive though so we can bring back more loot. Thinking of traveling either to Michigan or Sterling next year.
I guess the farthest we have traveled for fair had to be last year. Went from Houston to Bristol via Gatlinburg, TN.
All the way down to Bristol from the U. P. of Michigan. Pretty much the entire length of Wisconsin. We also do MN every year. We use to hit just about every faire in the state and two or three in MN but with the price of gas it may be just Bristol an MNRF this year.
GLMF earlier this month, it was over 1100 miles round trip, over 17 hours total in the car.
MiRF is it for me this year. It's about 2 hours away and I get to go every weekend if I have no conflicting interest. Hollygrove is home and I love attending every chance I get.
'Bout 600 miles from Tucson to the '86 Lake Isabella Warfaire. Can't really count the 7000 mile Long Beach Ca to Bedivere Castle UK trip as I was employed by me father's brother Samuel at the time::)
Blue and I drove to BARF last St. Paddie's day. It took about 18 hours to drive the 1000 miles, but it was worth it. Also, her trip to KyRF took her a tad over the 1000 mile marker, so we will be looking at Maryland to extend our "journies!!!"
Longest airline flight inspired by faire: LGA to MSP, to go to Petersen's Farm (Shakopee). 3 hours?
Longest bus trip inspired by faire: Port Authority Bus Terminal to Fairehaven (Charlotte) 11 hours with a stop in Durham to meet the person I would be sharing the last hundred miles of trip with.
Longest solo trip going it with no help: When I worked behind the scenes at Maine (7.5 hours with small layovers in Boston and Portsmouth, NH).
Cheapest faire trip: $2.00 one way from me and Mrs. apartment a stone toss from the Rabbit Warren (Coney) to the Abbey (Cloisters).
My home faire is RPFS (Renaissance Pleasure Faire South).
The farthest I've gone for faire is Colorado Springs Faire. Otherwise the usual ones would be Las Vegas and Arizona.
My longest trip has been from Syracuse NY to MDRF, about 360 miles. It's usually a 5hr drive staying just outside of Baltimore.
Well were were trying to plan a trip to Colorado for Faire but economics killed that.
So 250 miles to TRF has the prize so far.
TRF was the furthest I have traveled for a faire. It was over 1,100 miles from Cincinnati, Ohio. But I wouldn't trade the drive or the experience for the world. I'm trying to get the household to go with me this coming season :)
Currently the farthest is KYRF, about an hour and a half away (Google says 90 miles)
This summer we are planning on attending GLMF (Google says 296 miles, about 5 hours)
Texas is VERY iffy. If for no other reason than the fact we have a new puppy.
The farthest I've gone was by accident, In 2007 I was driving through New Mexico and had stopped on a Friday night in Alamagordo. The kid at the motel desk saw the kilt and started talking about a faire in Cloudcroft, so I stopped by there the next day, that's about 800 miles from Houston.
from home to Bristol, 1,043 mi not far. ;D

I'm telling you, I lived further away last year, and it only took me about 4-4 1/2 hours to get to GLMF. And I did the trip four Sundays in a row. And we live closer. Five hours my tail, lol. Only if we have to stop all of the time ;)

I flew from St Louie to Las Vegas then drove four hours to the So Cal Pleasure fair....the farthest drive was to MNRF in 07 'bout 600 miles.
I'll be going from Md. to Texas for Rendezvous! Yayyyyyy.
Flew from Dallas to Southern California Pleasure faire last May. ;D
Before that it was 4-5 hours to TRF each October. :D

Went to BARF again this year. Got smarter. Bought 2 plane tickets.
We're also going to Scarby from NW Illinois. That's almost 1,000 miles each way. We're flying.
With age comes wisdom. ;)
When we finally go to BARF, we are flying.... My husband's best friend lives down there and is attending this year. No $ for us to go. Perhaps next year!
We drove from Waxahachie, Texas, to Ontario, Canada, but I worked for the Joust Troupe for the Ontario Renaissance Festival.
For just visitating: My wife and I flew to Washington, DC to go to the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
Well, we also went for my In-law's 50th wedding anniversary and spent a week at Ocean City, but we really went to visit MdRF!
The beloved and myself flew from Arizona to visit the Kansas City Faire.
996 miles according to Mapquest
This will be my third year going to the Upper Canada Medieval Festival, which is 4-6 hours away. It's 6 hours to get there, because we head up the night before and get stuck in rush hour traffic. It's four hours to come back, because there's no traffic at all after midnight on Sunday.
I flew from Dallas to Minneapolis and visited MNRF in 1996 or 1997. (Well, I actually spent a week visiting my parents where they live near St. Cloud in the Summer, and we went to the Ren Faire the first weekend - and I took my costume with me to wear (something my parents didn't know I was planning. ::) ;D ))
The longest trip that I've gone just for Faire was driving from where I live now (Webster, TX, near NASA-JSC) to Scarborough Faire in 2004. That's ~250 miles.
The next longest journey was driving from where I used to live (McKinney, TX) to Buffalo Gap (near Abilene, TX) for the West Texas Ren Faire in 1997 & 1998 (or 1998 & 1999). That's ~225 miles.
Where I used to live, and where I live now, are both around an hour's drive from the "local" Faire (Scarby & TRF).
I drive quite a ways. I live in Minneapolis MN but work the Bristol faire in Kenosha WI, 394 miles each way. I work Friday from home so I can leave right before the afternoon rush, stay over Fri - Sun and drive back Monday. I used to get a hotel, but this year I have an apartment I'm sharing with one of FoF co-directors (there are 2 co-directors, she's one of them).
I also do Janesville and Stronghold, both of which require driving to Chicago to stay with friends. Sioux Falls faire is about 4 hours away, I hotel since it's only one weekend.
The farthest two I've been to are MNRF and TRF from Tennessee. :D
Home faire is MNRF, we are about 50 miles from there..
The furthest we've traveled would probably be to TRF.. Long two days in the car, but well worth it!!
We've also made our way to TNRF and AZRF, but at least we flew to those!! :)
Have family in Western PA while visiting them we went to Great Lakes Fantasy faire and the Greater Pittsburg Renaissance Faire. GLFF was around 150 miles farther GPRF is about 30 miles short of the in-laws which is a 1,400 mile trip.
going to visit GARf from Nashville in a few weeks, not too bad, five hours.
Goimg to visit Bristol from Nashville im September, ehhhh, 10 hours!! eeeek! :o :o :o
we are goimg for friends' wedding, so its two birds with one stone! and, i hear it is one of the best!

I haven't been to all of the faires (who has!) but I love Bristol! Spend some time in the nobles glade and catch Dirk and Guido, The Swordsmen.
Lady Catherine, when you get to Bristol, hie thee to the Friends of Faire garden, where for the meager sum of $5 for the entire 3 day weekend, you will have access to all the cold water and Gatorade you desire, tables at which to sit, storage for your purchases/baskets/etc. and the assistance of me and my fellow henches as we put ourselves and our knowledge at your disposal.
There are so many many faires that I want to visit ...
But the farthest that I have gone was probably my trip to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival last season. And that trip really earned me miles. I flew from Colorado to Minnesota for faire, then drove with a friend and booth wares from Minnesota to Las Vegas, Nevada. Then flew home after that faire back to Colorado.
It was an insane adventure. =)
thanks Dayna! we will!
Moved from a 15 minute drive to work, to a 1.5 hour drive to work to live closer to TRF. I mean, a guy has got to have his priorities right? (Ended up being a 10 minute drive from home to TRF.. seems like a win win to me)
Well my home faire is 2 hours away...
But I've been from Texas to Colorado and from Texas to Kansas City as well
The furthest I have traveled was somewhere around 1200 miles. I had just moved back to my homestate of Ohio and dearly missed TRF, so... made a VERY long drive to visit family (my cover ;D) and went to TRF that weekend. I'd love to do it again...this next season will make 4 years since being back :'(
The farthest I traveled alone to visit a faire was from Tyler Texas to Larkspur Colorado for the Colorado Renaissance Festival. The farthest with friends was from Tyler Texas to the Bristol Renaissance Festival in Wisconsin. Both were well worth the trip. Both trips were in the Summer of 2008. Hope to make another Summer of faires soon. Until then, it will be Scarborough and The Texas Renaissance Festival, every weekend, both about 2 and a half hours from me. :)

I'm surprised that you don't also visit Four Winds, Sherwood and Middlefaire in Texas.
The farthest I've gone is the Arizona Faire. That's a great place, been there twice so far.
Next year me and my partner in crime are talking about going to Texas and then some other faires around the USA, depending on how things are going will determine where we drive.
Yes DRIVE, can't afford to fly, we love driving and drove to New Orleans a few years back.
It was a terrific vacation and we sleep in the van (mini van, Toyota Sienna)
when possible at state parks, hotels when there isn't anything else around.

Actually, I work Four Winds. I have a ride there called the Joust A'bout. I have been to Sherwood on opening weekend and loved it. Middlefaire, I have been to a couple of times.
We've been as far as TRF down by Houston, which isn't all that far, but we're hoping to attend some of the northern and east coast Faires in the next year or so, with the possibility of a trip this summer to somewhere up north. Haven't decided what region, yet, or which Faire, though, so we're open to suggestions... :D We've been invited by so many wonderful R/Fer's to visit their home Faire's though, and even been offered places to stay and guides to show us around, so I've already got quite a list going! It's narrowing it down that's the problem... I want to visit them all!!!

Here's a nice
scientific approach:
1) Decide on the approximate date for your trip.
2) Check one of the online weather sites for the average temperature where you live at that time of the Summer. Remember this number. :o
3) Check one of the online weather sites for the average temperature at the various Faires for that time of the Summer.
4) Choose the one that is coolest! ;D
5) Enjoy your trip.
Take Care,
David Baldock
Awww... can't I just pack ALL the garb in the van and hit the road, finding Faires and rennies wherever I go? ;)
From Minneapolis to Belize and St. Maarten. Different trips. Haven't bothered to see which is farther. All that matters is that I was there, and it was good.
I live in south east texas(my home faire is TRF)...the farthest Ren Faire I've ever been to was the Las Vegas Ren Faire...which was not much to speak of, but its there.....
I'm going to try for the one by New Orleans next.....

heh heh heh.....now THAT would be worth reading.
Let's just say that there's not a stage at TRF that I haven't "graced"with my presence...
;) ;D ::) :-X
Oh... niiiiiice. I'll never look at those stages (or you) the same way again... :o :D

lol, way off topic but about 10 years ago I worked for Arsene and slept at the Odeon Stage ...one night we heard what we thought was someone banging on the door....well, they were....upon opening the other door. The rather large gentleman took off running in the pale moonlight with his trousers around his ankles (quite a sight) leaving his poor lass behind....she took off after the shock of being left behind wore off...
Yep... I'm thinkin' this thread is headed straight to the Inn... heheh

From Minneapolis to Belize and St. Maarten. Different trips. Haven't bothered to see which is farther. All that matters is that I was there, and it was good.
Back to topic... Belize was the further of the two at approximately 2,735 miles to St. Maarten's 2,690.
Well I put a post up when this thread first started saying I might be going to KCRF and haven't updated it since. We did indeed drive to KCRF in October of 2008 and had a great time. It was a 17 hour drive one way. We've then turned around and this past February drove to FL for BARF and that came in at about 15.5 hours one way. Right now, those are the 2 farthest faires we've been to. I'm sure that will change some time in the future but for now that is it.
Funny thing is back in 99 I was in San Mateo, CA for 6 months on a contract and didn't realize that the faire was right nearby or that would have been the furthest one. Someday I'm sure.
I drove/rode 369 miles this weekend, approx 5 hrs, to go to TNRF (which closed for the weekend after 2 hrs. bah!)
I live about 30 minutes from LARF and I ride about 6.5-7 hrs. to TRF.
I went from MD. to TEXAS,SCARBY! WooHooo, had a great time.

Wow that has got to be some kind of record!
The three hour mark, give or take, is generally the limit. At 4 hours and more traveling time, it really pushes things in the traveling, from the time I get up, to the time I take off, the drive there, the whole day on one's feet......and then the drive back.
Even at 3 hours, things are interesting in that it may take 3 hours to get there......but it takes 7 hours to get back since I'm dropping down at rest stops to catch naps. Which is another little factor as well. If the faire at a distance is in the vincinty, somehow, of an interstate, then it's more workable than one that isn't.
To perform, I've driven (no flying for this rennie!) to Ingleside, Tx and to Danville, Illinois, to Council Bluffs, Iowa/Omaha, Ne, and will add Great Bend, Ks to the list of long drives next month. To just kick back and have fun attending faires? I've driven to Bristol, twice; and to TRF twice (once per season). Driving may add travel time and expense to the trip but, I get to see so much more of the area around the festival/faire and the communities that support it by driving to and from events.
Just my tuppence,
Emerald

I have that limit if I'm not spending the night. The furthest I have gone for faire is Kansas City- a little over 3 hours, and the closest was 10 minutes (Nebraska Ren Faire) The rest of the 5-6 events that I regularly attend each year average right about 2-2 1/2 hours away. Since I work 6 days most weeks, I really have to plan to attend or take vacation. My next faire (this weekend) is only 15 minutes away.
On average about 5 hrs drive to Waxahachie, but the most is 8 hrs to TRF
I ( and the hubby) will be driving 14 hours to go to CoRF on June 26th - I am very excited to be going! I'm even updating my garb ;D
Other than that the farthest I have gone is Chippewa Falls - which was 2.5 hrs.
"How far have you gone for faire?"
Do you speak of distance or intimacy? ;) Single trip, not that far. It's about 360 miles to Scarby from here. But we went three times this season... does that count?
I think Merlin went a lot further to go to Sherwood. Has me beat by a lot.
Does it count I am going to a faire in KS when I am on vacation there and live in North Carolina?
I have only ever gone to the MNRF but hope to get to more this year.
This year will certainly be the most total time on the road. We've already done Sherwood, 17 hours round trip. We'll be going to Preview and Opening of Scarby, total 2 trips of about 22 hours, a trip to CoRF for RenDezvous, about 31 hours round trip, and if we get it all worked out, a double-faire weekend to OkRF and Spirit of Magic, probably 11 hours round trip. About two work-weeks of traveling!
Technically, I'm driving about 3000 miles to go to faire next month. I am moving across country, and will be attending both Scarby and the Socal Pleasure Faire on my way.
LadyR, isn't it even a little bit of a drive for you to attend BARF from where you are now? So you get to include that little segment in your overall mileage.
I think you win... ;)

Nah, it's only a little over an hour each way. So that's just 4 hours for the whole weekend. Compared to pretty much every other faire I've ever been to, that's close!
Well, I meant your total distance for your upcoming trip... Since your odyssey will begin with BARF and end with the Socal Pleasure Faire, I think you will be having quite a noteworthy journey, indeed! I hope you document it with lots and lots of photos!!!
TRF- 20 mins away, Sherwood- hour 1/2, Scarby- 4 1/2 hours, Bristol in Wisconsin- 18 hours and
Holly, Michigan is a flat days' driving, 24 hours.
I think that the farthest I drove to go to faire was in 2001, when I drove 500 miles (8 hours) to attend GaRF. Got off of work Saturday morning (working nights back then), drove down to Georgia from northern Kentucky, went to faire on Sunday, and then drove home after faire. I think I got home around 3am, which made me glad that I didn't have to get up in the morning. I also attended MiRF 5 of the 7 weekends that year, which was about 600 miles round trip.
Would have to say Kenosha Wisconsin, to the Bristol Renaissance Faire. I am hoping to drive to Colorado this year, if the price of gas drops some.
When I was living in Hawaii I traveled about 4,230 miles (each way) to go to Scarborough.
Granted Scarborough was not the only reason for the trip, but it still counts right? :D
This year it'll only be about 1,200 miles each way from SE Florida.
Alarick, huh? I think you might be some kind of a smart alarick .. heheh... just teasing. ;) We may have a winner here...
We did a whirl wind trip and I managed to tack on a stop to the GA ren faire. Starting outside of Memphis, TN we went to Oneida, TN for genealogy research, several nights in Gordonsville, VA for historical tours and a NASCAR race in Richmond, two nights at Williamsburg (the buffet was AWESOME!), two nights near Mooresville, NC for NASCAR tours, and quick swing thru GA for a couple hours at fest! Got to see Tartanic for the first time, too! ;D
I'm not sure you can really say that I went the full way just for the faire...
I was flying from Anchorage, Alaska to San Antonio, Texas, and detoured to stop by the Renaissance Pleasure Faire just outside of Los Angeles, California.
Anchorage to LA: 2,500 mi (approx)
The detour was actually Seattle - LA - Dallas (instead of Seattle - Dallas), and only added about 550 air miles, 100 driving miles, and 2 days to the trip.
Well, as RPF is the closest faire to me (as well as the easiest to get to, I need a cab to & from the last bus stop for Escondido & Koroneburg & let's just forget Big Bear & Palm Springs lol. Not sure about Ventura for Into A New World, have to check it out, but still a looong way by bus), and I don't drive, I have to take 4 buses from Huntington Beach to Irwindale which takes, w/walk & wait time, around 2 & 1/2 hrs.
Flew Phoenix to Maryland for MDRF in 07'
Flew Raleigh to Ohio for ORF in 08'
From Raleigh, NC the longest drive was to BARF, Tampa FL at least 585 miles
The second was Raleigh, NC to Pittsburgh,PA at 330 miles
This is why I'm bad at math: a little after 6:06a-a bit less than 10:36a (plus walk & wait time) is around 4 hrs :-[ lol
Drove from NYC to Pittsburgh. It was a blast -- about 7 hours each way.
Drove from MN to TRF and back...twice. Also had the worst road trip ever during the first jaunt.
My husband and I have gone to the majority of the faires in Texas and they are all about 4-5 hours away from us. With the exception of TRF, Sherwood would be the shortest drive with about 3 hours. The longest was probably Middlefaire. That drive was about 6 hours for us. Maybe next year we will take the plunge and head out of state to check out another faire! :)
2896 roundtrip to and from PaRenFaire.
third base...
A coworker of mine from Edmonton, Alberta who was in town came with us to Scarby last weekend. That's 2178 miles according to Yahoo Maps!

Wow that's got to be some kinda record for a non-flight journey to a faire!

Well she flew from Edmonton to Dallas on the Company nickel, LOL. We just took her from Dallas to Waxahachie! :)
We drove over 600 miles to go to the Tennessee Renaissance Festival. We were headed to Tennessee anyway, but we left a day early and went halfway across the state from where we were headed. After spending a little over half the day at the faire, we left just before the thunderstorms moved in and drove 180 miles to the Knoxville area, our actual destination.
The longest distance we've travelled just for faire is the 200-or-so mile drive (each way) to Bristol. We also usually make the 95 mile trek (each way) to Stronghold. I'd like to make my first visit to Des Moines this year, which would be a 170 mile drive (each way). Other possibilities for next year if scheduling and finances work out are Dubuque at about 85 miles each way, and the Iowa Ren Fest in Middle Amana at little over 80 miles each way.
Forgot to add - we drove over 90 miles each way last year for a Celtic Fest in Cedar Rapids. It will be at the same location as the Iowa Ren Fest this year, so it will be a little shorter drive. If it's not cold and rainy like last year, we might try it again.
Well so far this season one of the faires we are looking at going to is 280ish miles away. The other 3-4 faires are closer than that, I do belive; closer to the 100-120 mile range. We'll see how my gas budget looks this spring. Haha!
I'm sure I posted earlier in this thread that our longest drive was to BARF in Tampa. We also drive to TN. Last Memorial Weekend, we drove to Muskogee, OK for the OK Renaissance Faire, approx 700 miles each way. Took about 11 1/2 hours each way, with pit stops.
Three faires have been on our annual agenda for three years now: Scarborough (home faire in Waxahachie, TX), Sherwood Forest (near Austin, TX), and Castleton (in Muskogee, OK), and are 360 miles, 490 miles, and 220 miles each way, respectively.
This year will also be our third RenDezvous (if all holds together), and at 430 miles each way will by far be the closest of the three. The Colorado RF RenDezvous was 944 miles from home, and Carolina RF RenDezvous was 785 miles.
Next year, we'll have to wait and see how things go...
i decided a couple years ago to include a faire each year for my vacation. i normally travel to ny faire 1-2 hour drive from long island. now i have gone to the following faires
Sarasota
Phoenix 2x
Tampa
NJ Renn faire
My longest drive has been from cooper texas to TRF its about 300 miles. I am happy to say I now live 1 1/2 hours closer to TRF so its not such a long drive. Im an hour from Scarby, which I drive everyweekend to work, im about 5 hours each way from TRF and about 4 hours each way from Sherwood. I would love to take longer trips but im limited due to my real job there are certin times of the month I cannot take off work and gas costs ( i drive a truck and im lucky to get 20 mpg). One of these days im going to run away and join the fair. :p
For the last few years we've traveled from Idaho to Florida to go to BARF. According to google maps, that's 2,620 miles via car. We fly, though.
It just so happens that we have family down there, and the fair goes on around Easter ;D
Since I posted in 2010-we've added 2 Celtic Festivals and one Faire to the yearly itinerary.
The farthest one is/was a 6 hour drive for the Minnesota Scottish Fair and Highland Games in Farmington, Mn. (May 4th this year).
I would hazard a guess that more than a few MNRF denizens turned up, since we saw more Celts and Celtic wenches in period garb than we have seen at any other games.
We did that trip exactly twice, and the second time we took the opportunity to recruit a local to run the tent from then on. Native Minnesotans can deal with the odd weather in the Spring....and they bring their own Scotch. ;D
Farthest I have driven is about 5 hours to Sterling
Home faire is Pittsburgh and it is about an hour away
Have went to PARF, GLMF and MD all are around 3 to 3 and a half hours away. Usually get a hotel for the weekend.
My wife and I drive to every faire we have gone to.......We have driven as much as 1000 miles in 15 hours and had not reached the faire site yet, and then had to get up early the next morning and head out again. Don't actually know how far the furthest one was, but know if you see us at faire, we drove and we live in Eastern NC.
