Title: Duck fabric
Post by: Joyce "Delfinia DuSwallow" Howard on February 16, 2014, 08:15:20 AM
Some time ago I ask for a site to purchase Duck? fabric to use on my bodice but can't seem to find that site now. Can you suggest your favorite place for purchase?

Search for 'duck cloth' or 'cotton duck'.  It's a type of light weight cotton canvas.

Or go to your local fabric store.  Joanns and Hancock both carry it.

Both our local JoAnn and Hancock Fabric stores carry Cotton Canvas Duck. It is what I use for underlining Bodices and Corsets.

The Corset I made you years ago, Joyce, has 2 layers of it. Cotton canvas Duck gives Bodices and Corsets that stiffness and good durability.

Thank you all for your help! One more question. . .  what weight do I want?

Heavy, Joyce.

Cotton Canvas Duck comes in a 54" or 60" width I believe.

I don't think most of us have ever paid that much attention to duck cloth before.  :-)   I think I normally just get 8 oz.   You are going to need to bone the bodice anyway so the weight of the fabric doesn't matter much.   It's about keeping the fashion fabric stiff and adding support to the boning.
