Title: finding fabrics... online
Post by: AmazonSage on July 21, 2008, 11:22:23 AM
I'm sure this has been asked and answered before, but...
I'm looking for good web sites to find discount fabrics, as in 10/yard or less.  The local stores I normally buy fabrics from have very little selection of good bargains these days.  Given that I have the slowest internet connection ever it's a search I've had little luck doing myself.  So I was wondering if anyone had any good links for me?

Well first, welcome to our faire realm.  Wondrous well to have you with us.  As far as websites go, I guess it really depends on what you are looking for.

http://www.discountfabric.com/ - This is a good place for brocades and such
http://www.discountfabricsusacorp.com/ - This is an absolutely AWESOME place.  I go to the store to get all my fabrics that I can because its a little cheaper in the store than online.
http://www.fabric-store.com/ - PERFECT place to get linens cheap!

Hope these help.

Thanks, that was a helpfully start.
Silly me has to make one or more new outfits every year, all my garb doesn't fit in it's chest-box anymore.

I want to give a quick rave for the fabric guru.  I order frequently and always get the best service.  Shipping is always a fixed low rate and my fabric cuts arrive on a bolt.  :D

Well it is changing from recent past,

I would have recommended Denver Fabrics, but they have changed hands and I don't see the same things I used to pick up from them now.
(like Irish Linen and Silk Twill)

Also ? Fabric.com or Phoenix Textiles from the old days, is now sold to Amazon, but truly in the past 2 years I am not purchasing as much from them it could be because the selection is just not there.

Now my best choice is still eBay, because you can find if you look really great fabrics, just recently there was someone who had 96 yards of this purple/gold damask that was really lovely I think it went for $78.00 plus shipping so that amounts to pennies on the yard.

Here are some other places I think are a good fabric source for a bargain:

Joyce Fabrics

http://www.joycefabrics.com/ (http://www.joycefabrics.com/)

This is a hit or miss venue but they have had some really nice things in their remnant space.

Plumridge

Another awesome find but is very expensive, however?
You only need Forepart and Sleeves so as little as 2.5 yards, and it will make the difference!

Golden Silks

Thai Silks

www.thaisilks.com (http://www.thaisilks.com)

This is one that is a few miles from my home, and as an SCA'er we get a 25% discount with purchase of $50.00 or more.

Silk Trading
http://www.silktrading.com/ (http://www.silktrading.com/)

Renaissance Fabrics

http://www.renaissancefabrics.net/ (http://www.renaissancefabrics.net/)
This is a lovely woman who has been working towards this store for years and now it is born! She has awesome pieces for the Renaissance and beyond.

Fabric Carolina

This is an eBay store I have gotten some great pieces from them.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the info on Denver Fabrics. We have been looking for a couple of weeks for a chenille fabric that looked similar to a previous fabric who found for my nephew's new "noble class" doublets. We have gone through several of our city's stores without luck and she was getting sick and tired of mounds of swatch books at the interior fabrics store. Maybe our family is being a little too thorough, but after going to our local faires and seeing both good and bad garb.....we are going for the authentic look.
