Title: Looking for a crochet snood pattern
Post by: alexandrite on July 25, 2008, 07:44:24 PM
I am looking for a pattern using cotton thread.  I just got a job working in a store at PARF and need to get my outfit together quickly.

Thanks

Since you are working at faire, how strict are they?  Crochet is a 19th c invention.  Cotton wasn't used in England in the 16th c.   Also, it's really cheap to just buy a snood (if they aren't too strict).  I've gotten most of mine for $3 or so.

Here's a suggestion...

Take a simple round Doily pattern for a snood, using a middle weight yarn and size F needle. Follow the instructions and a snood will appear.

Good luck!!

Google "crochet snood pattern," and search through the links.  I don't crochet, so I don't know what can be altered, etc.  But here's one pattern:

Alternately, Pillaged Village (http://www.pillagedvillage.com/~pillaged/cgi-bin/cart.cgi/HTC_Snoods.html) sells ready-made crochet snoods for $3.

Third option: sew a caul/coif instead.
With fabric (http://www.elizabethancostume.net/headwear/caulmake.html)
With metallic cord (http://www.pillagedvillage.com/~pillaged/cgi-bin/cart.cgi/HTC_Snoods.html)

(I made a linen caul/coif last season, by hand, in about an hour.)
