Oh Karen remember when i told you today about how i didn't like the way the one flap got binded? ya, here's the pict. It would be the right one on this last picture. I'm still not liking it,but i am not gonna go and do it all over again.

Huzzah to the Baroness for her excellent mentorship!!

Ladiedragon!!  Your corset is looking awesome indeed!!Huzzah to you too!!!

One tip in binding concerning edges is to have extra that can fold over onto the other side by an inch or so, stitched, then  be tucked under to the other side to be hand or machine sewn. That eliminates the rough edge at ends.

I did and do this when making corsets. I first bind thre opening edges first were the grommets will go, then do the rest with the fold over method.

Thank you.. yea. i didn't really do the binding that way on the ends. i might go back and do it another time. It does make sense to do it that way. Will post more picts as i finish things on it.

I have a question. what's the best way to bind a corset? I bought a half finished one, and the last bodice I worked on i broke needles on my machine... what am I doing wrong?

What karen(baroness) had told me was to bind the bottom of the corset first, because then you wouldn't have to fight with the boning in the corset while your trying to bind it. Then you can put the boning in and start binding the top. But thats with the new one I am working on. NOt sure if that helps any, I'm just a noob at this.

Tips on binding a Corset.....

1) With the Single Fold WIDE bias, bind the edges where the grommetting will be. Be sure to follow the crease line on the Bias Tape for sewing onto the corset either from the out or inside. Have the ends be flush with the corset itself.  FOLD onto the other side, pin, then  hand or machine sew to finish.

2) Using the same procedure, pin the bias tape along the top and bottom edges of the corset. Have at least an inch of the bias tape to fold over the edge, making sure it catches when follwing the crease line. (Seam allowance when using WIDE single fold Bias is 3/8").

3) With the extra that has been folded over, lay nicely onto the corset and hand or machine sew on the other side. The edges should be clean as well as even. (See photo of the corset with no straps). Hope this helps.

Though it does help to have someone illustrate in person binding a corset. It's easy. I also use this method when using Bias Tape as a facing for necklines when making mundane clothing.

It's Beautiful LD, don't fuss about the binding, it's underwear, remember?  ;)

ok..so i gots another question maybe someone can help me with cuz karens still at work. When attaching straps... where am i sewing the two peices together?  the strap piece was marked at the 5/8in in black on this pict. Karen put an extra line in about an inch above that one. Now I 've put the two pieces together and figured that the line about that 5/8 in mark would most likely be where i would sew-the shoulder strap to the 5/8in mark on the back piece.

Other wise if i went from the 5/8 in on shoulder strap to the 5/8 on the back peice..i doesnt seem to fit. does this makes sense?

also when i got to bind the top.,I am thinking i should trim off the 5/8 in mark that runs just along the top of the back piece

and not the part that will be attached to the shoulder piece. would that be correct? becasue i did trim off the 5/8in on the rest of the corset on top..just not the back piece.

hope this doesnt confuse.

The lazy person's way to bind a corset.

Like LD said, I bind the bottom of the corset first, with all the bones removed, so I can straighten out the the tabs while sewing.
