Title: Men's tights thread?
Post by: anne of oaktower on December 04, 2015, 11:06:49 AM
Lacking the time to sit here and search through 82 pages (Wow!) of threads, can anyone tell me if there is any info here on men's tights with a functional codpiece?

Men's tights (tight tights!) were called hosen.  That keyword will help you with any searches.  The only time hosen were worn with just a codpiece (the horrible fashion of leggings is unfortunately, not a new fad at all.  Please, people, cover your backside if you are going to wear something tight) was in the very early 16th c in Italy.  By the time you get the 1520's, it's completely disappeared and men wore their hosen under their trousers again.  Hosen were exactly what they sound like - hose.  And they were attached either to the doublet or the trousers or even the slops (undies) with a couple of points (ribbons).   If you search under the correct keyword, you'll find a ton of articles.

Thank you so much, Isabella!  That should make my task much easier.  :)
