So, I want to make a waist cincher. Do you think that I would be fine just altering the custom corset pattern or should I buy a pattern? Anyone know of an online pattern? I am trying to avoid going to the fabric store as I have to drive to MN to do that as there are none in this part of WI. Plus, not going there prevents me from buying more stuff I cannot afford.
Here's a link on how to make your own waist cincher pattern.

Hope it helps! :)
Thanks for the Link, I've been wanting to make one of these myself.
You may want to look into "swiss waists" from which the modern waist cincher comes from. They are a mid 19th c "belt" that goes over the corset and dress. (Basically, they are not h/a for the renn fest but work for most civil war re-enacting if done correctly). I know there were a couple of civil war patterns out a bit ago that had waist cinchers in them. Also the American Tribal "Gypsy" pattern that simplicity sells has one. The big thing with any of those is to bone the area around the lacing for it to stand correctly.
I just made my waist cincher yesterday, somewhat based on the link provided by Selkie (thank you). Instead of turning it, I made it with bound edges...well, it will have bound edges once I get to that (I hate turning things!). I also turned it from a 2 piece cincher into a 4 piece. I boned it with giant zip ties on both sides of the lacing holes. Pretty easy to make. I will post pictures in the next couple of days.
