Hi everyone! I'll be visiting London in September this year and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any "can't miss" destinations for people like us, the Tudor history/historic clothing enthusiasts? Places that aren't obvious? I already plan to visit the V&A, The Globe, Hampton Court, National Portrait Gallery, Tower of London, Westminster, and Hever and Warwick castles outside the city. Are there any great "fabric districts" that I should work into the schedule? We'll only have about 11 full days in London (as we're spending 5 in Paris first), and of course we'll be visiting all of the other main highlights in London so we won't have a TON of extra time I'm sure. I just don't want to get home and find out I missed a real hidden gem, something that really would have interested me but may not be in all the major guidebooks.
I feel like Lady Kathleen went to England sometime recently?
I would add to the list:
*London Museum (previously Museum of London)
*Borovick Fabrics and others in SoHo
*Savile Row, to see master tailors in action (even if it's "modern")
*National Gallery, right next to the Portrait Gallery (and their souvenir shop!!)
*Chatsworth (home of Bess of Hardwick and Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, and they have a fashion/costume exhibition there on the theme until October)
When I was in London in 2015, I was at the National Portrait Gallery, the Tower of London, as well as Hampton Court. The paintings at Windsor Castle also were inspiring.
The next trip to the UK in 2018, I will be spending 4 days in Bath with one full day at the Fashion Museum. The V&A is also on the itinerary.
Thank you both very much! This was just the info I was looking for! SO very excited for this trip.
