A cross post from Fitz the Toad off of myspace..
Everyone,
It is with sadness I come to tell you all that Joe Kudla AKA Snot from
Puke and Snot died today.
No real news on what happened, but he was found 2 hours ago.
Please keep his family in your mind and prayers
Fitz The Toad

Before you even bother asking, NO this is not a joke.
An Irishman walks out of a bar....it could happen. Thats a joke.
I'm still in shock.
Wow...
Wow!! How sad..... :'(
It's already gotten to Colorado, Still a bit freaked out, just had dinner with him a couple of weeks ago
:-[
<speechless>
Just found that out on a newsgroup. Crazy.
..... ditto on PurpleDragon's post...
This is indeed terrible news.
Faire won't be the same this year.
Was very sad to hear this.
Just heard it from John, sad news indeed.
It is too bad, him and Puke made a good team. He will be missed.
I spoke with the MAF office this afternoon and they confirmed it. No word on what happened. They are asking participants to kind of keep it low key as far as the general public until they can figure out an appropriate public statement, or press release and figure out what is going to happen with the act or on the Legend stage
May you live in interesting times... :(
Check out the "extras" link on their webpage for photos of their act going back to the 1970's

Saw Fitz's post on LJ and someone mentioned something about him not feeling well and having a heart attack overnight.
So sad to hear this!
End of a era.

This is too bad. The end of an institution at fest.
Between Bernie Mac dying and now Snot, Heaven just got A LOT funnier.
My heart goes out to his family and friends.
R.I.P "Snot". You will be missed.
Wow...just got home from work and saw the news. It's going to be an unreal year staring at their stage everyday and not hearing their puchlines fly every few minutes. He will be sorely missed...
A legend passed on...a serious loss for the 'Ren' community and for the 'spirit of fair' in general.
Very sad indeed.
Logan of Gimbly (Nick) found this in the news paper tonight...

Sorry LD that link doesn't seem to work
I got it to work, but some portal or secure/login in thing came up in the address bar (can't get it to do it again now). If you look further down the url that shows up, you'll see "=http://" and the then twincities url. I just had to delete the beginning stuff.
ETA: If you copy and paste you'll get this in the address bar" "https://secure.passport.mnginteractive.com/mngi/servletDispatch/ErightsPassportServlet.dyn?url=http://www.twincities.com" (I cut out the end of it.) Just delete the stuff before www.twincities.com and it will load.
A very sad day for us all!
Wow! Sad news indeed.
RIP Thomas Snot (He was Flemish you know...)
Very sad news indeed. He was a talented performer and brought many smiles to folks over the years. Godspeed, Snot!
I was saddened and shocked to hear of the news that Joe Kudla, a.k.a
Thomas Snot, had left the realm.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
R.I.P Thomas Snot.
P & S was the first show I saw at Rennie over a decade ago. He will be missed. Anyone who wants to join me, I'm drinking mead straight from the bottle and listening to 'Health to the company' by Brobdingnagian Bards ( http://www.thebards.net/ song #26), A perfect song to remember him by. Rest in peace Joe.
RIP Snot. You provided laughs to many. I will miss not seeing you on your ship talking about your dingy.
I'll miss him and will say a prayer for him and his family.

I wonder if there will be any sort of official memorial for him at Fest. It seems like it would be appropriate.
It is very possible that they would do something after hours. They did last year for one of the members of Safety Services. But I don't think it would happen without Mark (aka Puke) being there. And it has been years since Joe or Mark stayed after hours.

A year or so ago some participants were kicking around the idea of having some sort of memorial on site where the people we've lost can be remembered, but I don't think it got beyond brainstorming -especially since the site lease was still up in the air at that time.

Ok, I have an idea. Remember last year when we had rendezvous. We had the name tags that I think Lily & Graceful Carrie put together? What if we get something like this and just write Snot or Snot RIP on them and wear them with our favors.
Its a small subtle way of showing out support.
Just an idea.

I bumped this idea again on the participants-only Elist and suggested the garden area on the hill above the Unicorn Stage (now the dungeon) between the "B" gate participants' entrance and the rear of the Scriptorium is public, but fairly quiet and away from heavy traffic and is unlikely to ever be in demand for booth, or performing space.
Friends of Faire at RPFS has a memorial wall with plaques commemorating departed RPFS folk. I believe that Kevin O'Hare of Fellowship Foundry normally does the plaques for a nominal fee.
Very sad, he will be missed...

Wow, crazy to hear that the show will go on! It seems like the right thing to do, but man, I can' imagine how difficult it will be for Mark!
Rage, I think it's a great idea to wear a favor in memoriam of Joe. Kind of like many people did for Lord A last year.
On a more trivial note... did I miss something? Since when does Fest open on "Friday"?
You missed nothing Charlotte, it was the writer who missed something. He is generally a performing arts reviewer and not a regular communist...errr....columnist.
Opening is still saturday.
I caught the Friday thing too.
I just got a call from a friend telling me. I posted another notice, but deleted it so we didn't one of those double post deals. I'm just in total shock. But I can't stay on long, still recovering from surgery. So I'll check in later to read more. Not to comfy a spot to sit up in right now.
Good luck with your recovery, Fig!
Thought about it more and the traditional black arm band would work well for this. It can be just a piece of black ribbon or cloth.
Unless fest comes up with another idea I was thinking opening day would be a good day. It would be cool if we could get fest to hand out black ribbon to everyone coming in the first day. Its cheap enough. Someone with a line to Carr could suggest it.
ok we got some things we're gonna work on for this, this weekend. should hopefully have them done by this weekend.
Folks I already know what I'm going to do.
After the first show, the first day...flowers on stage. Nothing else.
From the Star Trib...
QuoteSieve intends for the show to go on when the Minnesota Renaissance Festival opens later this month. "It would be a great tribute to Joe to keep it going," he said, "but I don't know. I might break down in the middle of the routine."
It's always the thoughts that count. It's really a sad thing, this happening.
This is what Tod and I came up with.it's not much-pretty simple. we only made about 60 of them, so when they are out they are out.

Those look great LD. Where will you be distributing them?
Might I suggest a moment of silence/ecumenical prayer at the opening breakfast in Snot's memory? In my character's clerical role, I can officiate. Just a thought...
He will be missed.
Thank you!
We'll most likely be distributing them at the breakfest on sat. If your not there on sat, we can try and save you one.
For anyone who isn't at the breakfast, we will have them with us at the mead booth.

I'm hardly in other faires's threads but I thought this was a fitting song as mentioned in a previous post.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hB_cv6s8fA
Very fitting WW. I'm trying to come up with something like this at Karaoke for us all to take part in as well.
LD & I got some requests for Snot 08 favors (best name I could think of) from outside the R/F forum so we are planning to make some more. Not sure how many yet, maybe another 60.
At Bristol, the Sunday of first weekend immediately after opening gate, we hold a memorial parade to honour those of our family who have passed in the last year. It is a very somber event, two guards to lead the way, those wishing to join in are welcome to do so at any point in the parade. Perhaps that might be something you wish to consider.
Dayna
LD & I were there for that.
Rage, if you would hold one for me at the Mead booth I would appreciate it. I din't know Snot that well, but I remember the two of them from Colorado way back when. It would be nice to honor his memory, and all of his contributions.
The wife and I'll definitely want one as well.

Yes, we will do that for you.
Like we've said we will be handing these out this weekend, but if anyone would like to donate some monies while we're handing these out we will collect it and give it to the family of Snot.
Could you hold a couple for us at the mead booth too?
Sure, sure your on the list
you know what might be nice is to give one to Puke at the stage if you can, To let him know we will never forget.
I already e-mailed him. I sent the picture and said that we would like to give him one. I hope he e-mails back.
Has anyone heard about this.. "battle of the bands" type thing that is mentioned in this article?
http://www.gazette.com/articles/snot_39244___article.html/comic_duo.html
It's the first I heard of it. I only recently just got back onto the list serve, but I haven't heard anything about from there either.

Just heard back from Puke/Mark. He asked for one for him and the crew. We plan to be there after the 1st show. If anyone wanted to donate we can all give the money to Puke & crew then or we can all just tip at the show.
Sounds like a great idea Rage, I think it would be nice for a contingent of us all to be there, if possible.

Thats what I was hoping for. Anyone know what time the first show ends?
Could you reserve one for me Rage? If you have any leftover by 10, I may have a couple other people who would probably like one.
Not a clue as to when their first show ends.

No problem. let me know how many you need.
We are trying to get another 60 made. If we go over that then we will have to pick up more supplies and make more.
Sweet! I'll see if I can get a number together.
Please could you hold one for me, too???
Sure, your on the list.
I think thier first show is at 10 normally or thereabouts so I would hedge a guess at between 10:30 to 11:00 for show end.
I think the favors are such a thoughtful, simple idea. A way to show support without having to go up to Mark. I'm sure it'll be a difficult run for him but perhaps seeing the favors every now and then, he'll know that his friend is not forgotten.
I would very much like to have one, also.
Ok, we got you down MG.
we also already talked to Mark and he wants us to bring him a half dozen or so. So, we'll be seeing him at the show.
The list is getting long could I have one also LD.
Could you up my count from 1 to a total of 4 Rage?
The others would be more than happy to make a donation at one of the shows when they can make it. Is that acceptable?
Ok, we'll change it to 4 for ya. Of course that is acceptable! No problems! :D

Got you too Tarac...
I just caught up to this thread regarding the ribbons. This is very nice of you to do LD and Rage!
I guess I had decided to make myself a memorial button with his photo on it.
I was just out at fest, dropping stuff off at Nick's, and heard someone died of a heart attack in the campground.
NO I don't know any names or any other details, other than it is a man.
Between that and losing Snot, we're off to a crappy start this year!
Need some advice, would it be ok to bring in some flowers through the front gate?
A bunch for Puke and some for the Fest Friends booth.
I can't imagine what sort of fascist would keep you from bringing in flowers.
Well they kinda know me out there LJ.
Any thoughts from the SS folks?

Even those of us at Bristol that have seen Thier show feel the loss.

Sorry to hear about this Unilady. I read your vent about him. We are all behind you.
Very sorry to hear that, unilady. It is always hard to lose someone you have been close to.
Thank you everyone. I am going to try to make it out at least once this year, we (his family) would like to leave a little something of him somewhere on site.

Yo yo yo Ren Festers! I'm Joe Kudla's one, and only child! And soooo blessed at that. I just want to say thank you to aallllllll the enormous support! I love having everyone come stop by the booth and talk about all the happy awesome memories with "Snot". So come visit! I am working the soda booth located in front of The Legend Stage!!!

ANGELA
Welcome Angela, glad to see a "little snot" will still be out at our fest!
I'll add my welcomes as well Angela. I never knew your father personally but he was one of the highlights of going to the Colorado faire when I was in high school.
Though I never have met Puke or Snot in person it was hard not to see their act, it was a very long run! How many acts can say they've had a stage built essentially just for them? My wife informed me years ago she is a realative of Puke, so in a way I married into Puke! ;D
Your dad brought a lot of smiles to many, something very few can say.
Hi Angela,
I didn't know your dad, but he would always take the time to say "Hi" to me on the street when we passed. He was an incredible performer and an even better human being.
