Title: House of Andar?
Post by: Gypsy_Pyxie on August 23, 2008, 01:27:35 PM
I've heard plenty about sca boots, and ca boots, and ren boots but does anyone have any opinions about the house of andar boots?

someone posted here (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=896.msg18246#msg18246) and said:

QuoteHubby has been wearing House of Andar boots for going on his 5th straight season.  He says they're still very comfortable, and I can attest that they still look like new.

i currently have a pair of scaboots and they're nice, but i think my next step up is to a house of andar. im not entirely sure where andar's shoes are made (cf. scaboots are imported, probably from china) but as much as i would prefer to buy a pair of shoes that are made domestically, i can't really justify the expense of $400+ shoes that i'll only wear a few times. :/

I got a pair of the hunter boots from house of andar this year, i would say they are well
worth the money. They seem to be well made and they kept my feet dry on the wet
faire season we had this year at Sterling. I guess if you have the cash for a custom fitted
boot go for it, but for $200 house of andars boots work for me. All leather with a nice
sole, i did put some extra cushioning in them but i expected to be in the for the whole
weekend.

If you want more info feel free to ask.

To Ozium and Yrose (or anyone else who owns a pair of House of Andar boots :)).

If you woudlnt mind sharing/telling, what color did you pick? As I know there are only two I believe, I am cuirous how the colors look in person and how you feel they compliment with the particular garb you wear.... I have been considering a pair of these.

Thanks,

James~

I am very interested in knowing more about these boots as well.. I have been looking at buying a pair of them for awhile.

I really like the brown boots, but all of my other stuff is black.......and I think things are supposed to semi match.. belt, hat, boots?

We got them in less than a week! He's tried them on and they fit well. They have a good heavy boot sole, not really period, but when your walking faire all day you have to take care of your feet. I took out their insoles and put a pair of Gellin insoles in them. rubbed them down with some mink oil and bought leather laces. They came with really long shoe strings. I'd like to change the buttons, but don't know if I can. I think he'll really like them, we'll try them out for the first time at Serendipity in 2 weeks.

What kind of view would you like? I can put one on and lace it up if thats what your looking for.
Or just some closer general inside and out pictures?

Front, side ect. You know, just a general over view. A good look at the colors and a closer looks at the way its put together if you dont mind.

Yes Chuck not realy accurate of a sole but they are comfortable and worked good on the Sterling site,
there are varied terrain and a bit extra grip helps. I have seen alot less period footwear being
worn at faire.

It's true the sole is not accurate, but I'm not that worried about it. The accurate ones are usually really too thin soled and after getting Plantar Fasciitis from walking in some at the Tennessee fair I've learn my feet are more important.

Both me and a good friend ordered some of these boots back before TenRen and have thoroughly enjoyed them. My only complaint was the extremely lacking insole. I replaced them with a good pair and the boots couldn't be more comfortable. I have the brown ones and they were a little more orangish than I expected but dark brown shoe polish toned them down a bit.

Being the above mentioned friend I decided I should give my own testimonial. The boots are very nice. I actually had mine confused by the with a set of custom-made boots by the guy who makes the boots. He was shocked when I told him what they were and that they were about $400 cheaper. Not only have mine survived TnRN, they also survived pushing a broken down suburban up and down the hilly roads of TN on the way to TnRN. Good times. :)

My husband wore them to fair the first time this weekend and loved them. Said his feet felt great and even the cobblestones weren't bothering him.
