Hi all,
I'm having so much fun sewing renaissance garb, I'd like to try other periods also. My only problem is, where would I wear the outfits? I have heard of civil war gatherings, so I was wondering if anyone could direct me to other festivals. (not just victorian, but any time period).
Thank you!
I've been to a few fur trade era events (though not in garb). There are pirate festivals. Something I was researching when I couldn't sleep last night was maybe making some Edwardian clothing and attending the Somewhere In Time themed weekend at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. :)
Although I've never heard of that movie, that is the idea I was going for, thank you Sealion! :)
(I must try to find that movie)
Does anyone else have suggestions?
Netflix or even buying it on Amazon. It takes place in the late 1800's turn of the century.
Other types of groups are the SAS Single Action Shooters which is old west. Many woman are involved with this. Sdaly in this country we do not have the Napolonic reenactors as they do in Europe.
There are revolutionanry War reenactors in the New England and east coast states
And there are Edwardian reenactor groups (Titanic Era) through out the country. Which is what Somewhere in time falls into
There are several Victorian events, most typically around Christmas time. You should be able to find them by doing a search for Dicken's Christmas
Living in the northeast we do not have as many renaissance faires, as some states do. Our seasons are short here. But we do have alot of revolutionary war reenactments, and civil war reenactments. I always thought it would be fun to look into the civil war reenactments. I have also seen some of the small villages have Victorian reenactments.
I live right near Lake Ontario which was one of the major battle sites for the war of !812 and we get alot of War of 1812 reenactments.
I suggest reading your local newspaper, checking out your local chamber of commerce, or tourism bureau and see if there are any historical groups in you area !
Or another idea, is to check out some of your local museums. Out here in New York, we have alot of old homes, mansions, etc that date back to revolutionary war time, or were homes of famous wealthy people like the Rockerfellers, Vanderbilt's, Morgans, etc. And you will often see the tour guides there dressed up in historical garb.
Good luck and have fun !
