... that you can make Ren-style clothing from, and wear during the winter? All I've seen are thin fabrics, and I've made only one tunic, a green fleece one, and I wanna make a better looking one then that one...
I actually discovered a nice thick material just today. Made some pants out of 'em - very easy material to work with because it's thick and sturdy, but not so thick you can't sew through a couple layers of it on a basic home sewing machine. It feels kinda like suede, looks kinds like leather, and feels like it would probably be wind-proof. It comes in tan, brown, dark brown, and red. It's $7.95/yard at Wal*Mart, of all places. It's the only place I've seen this particular fabric. Go check it out! ;)
Wool, cotton velvet, and heavy weight linen are all great for cooler weather/winter clothing. Depending on what you are making, most garb can be layered. Also, cloaks and coats are very useful when it gets cooler.
Sweet! Thanks for the help! I am gonna go to Wal-Mart in a couple of days to check that fabric out.
Wool - check out this shop: http://www.thewoolconnection.com/ (http://www.thewoolconnection.com/) I buy from them on a regular basis for coat-weight wools for reenactment attire and cloaks.
I love their fabrics!
Wool would be something or heavy Cotton Twill, Silk as it is tightly woven. Lined in fur would also be something to make a lovely piece warm. If you are a lady, woolen petticoats for winter events.
For men I would say layers, they had Gasiones and cloaks in heavy wool that has been washed so that it will not allow the water to go through.

Make a coat out of coat-weight wool (often called wool melton) and line it in silk. Silk is a natural insulator, and the wool is squishy and warm. :)
A Loose Gown (https://www.reconstructinghistory.com/rh204-kirtle-gown-sleeves.php?s=&c=22&d=30&q=1&p=44&w=21) is great for Elizabethan wear, or if you prefer earlier period stuff, a Viking Coat (http://www.gelfling.dds.nl/viking%20kaftanm.html) is the way to go. I have one of the Viking coats - done in red wool, lined in green silk. It keeps me SUPER warm. :)
