Title: Making circle cloak
Post by: Lady Leo on September 02, 2008, 07:41:19 AM
I would like to make a circle cloak with hood for my 3 year old son.  I understand how to cut the cloak it self out, but I'm not sure how to cut the hood out so that it will fit into the neck opening.  This will be my first time making garb without a purchased pattern.  Any help would be great.

Here is a couple of sites that I googled.

http://home.clara.net/arianrhod/Aldebaran/DoItYourself/Cloak02.html
http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Things/FCloak/FCloak_pattern.htm
http://gothfashion.info/circlecloak.php

I hope these help you, as Im sorry I'm not that skilled without a pattern.

When I made my son's cloak, I just measured the height from the top of his head to the base of his neck and used that plus an inch or two to cut a square of fabric with a fold on top and a seam going down the back.  I then pleated the top of the cloak to fit the base of the hood.

Hope that made sense...

Thank you.  The sites where helpful and I understood about pleating the hood into the neck.  I'll try to post a photo once it is finished.
