Title: Cast List?
Post by: Ronald the Bald on September 04, 2008, 11:22:19 AM
Is there a site with a list of cast members this year and who they play? Some people I know from Scarby are on cast and I would like to know what character to ask for when I come down there in November.

I don't think you're going to find anything like that ... at least not yet.  It's just a little over 36 days until TRF opens and they haven't even updated the web site with the new entertainment schedule.  Perhaps cast members can post their character names here.  Otherwise you might just have to get a program when you get there and spread the word yourself.

Too bad. I was hoping TRF had a page like Scarby does http://www.scarboroughrenfest.com/entert/cast.htm .

Well, I put in a call, and should have a cast list in about a week or so.

*buffs her pristine fingernails*

Dat's right, who's the Mistress?

Well, I do Scarborough as Sir Stephen MacGyver of the Queens own Highlanders. At TRF I'll be King Philip I of Spain. I've seen some Scarby folks as joust maidens, Captain of the Kings guard and a few others who's parts I'm not sure of. If you are there at opening gate that might be a good time to spy your friends.

Now I wonder why The Prisoner of Zenda is popping into my head or maybe the Great Race.

Excuss me your highness do you have any relatives living in Scotland?

Does anyone know when they might get the entertainment lists updated & the schedule up?  I'm a 'planner' when we visit faires & not having this information is making me a bit twitchy.  Yes, I know its a month out but I'm impatient dang it!

Perish the thought, Senor Ricardo! Mi esposo querido is Austrian through and through - muy elegante, muy hermoso, muy suave, and certainly no kin to those barbarous heathens who call themselves Scots. ;D

Some of those Hapsburg relatives of his, though ... shudder ... well, let's just say I'm very lucky that Papa Ferdinand and mi suegro Maximilian were able to come to an agreement.

Is it just me or was there a high turnover rate this year in cast members?  Or at least in cast members changing roles?  None of my fairy friends are the same I've heard and a bunch of the Queens guard are also not the same.  Tis sad when your friends disappear, haha...

There was not much turnover this year, and in fact we cast many new faces this season and expanded the ranks of the performance company members which may be why there are many faces you don't recognize.  We have the same guard members we had last year but added more members.  And because we added two new groups this year, the Transylvanians and the Elves, we cast many of our veteran actors in those roles.

Yes, each year there are performance company members who are unable to return for various reasons usually work/job obligations and school.  Some decide to take a year off for personal reasons, and at times we do not recast actors.  We actually have several members who are taking time off this season because of pregnancy or who just gave birth.  And strangely enough the fairies were diproportionately blessed with this.  One of the actors from the fairy court is teaching school in Japan this year.

Suffice it to say that we value each and every one of our performers and with a cast this large turnover is going to happen.  Its just the way of things.  But we could not be happier with the quality and quantity of talented folks we have with us this year.

I didn't know about the elves, but I like the Transylvanian court.  So pregnancy is the culprit.. haha.  Makes sense to have the veterans in new roles.  I have always believed the cast members are quite talented and blessed with patience and good cheer!

You MUST meet the Elves.  They travel all over the site and are a RIOT!  Don't tell anyone, but I think Poppa Elf might be a little touched in the noggin'.  He talks to trees and they apparently talk back.  ;) ;D

Poppa Elf is indeed the gnome.  He is an actual dwarf and the idea for the group originated with him.  He has for the past several years portrayed Will Sommers, the King's Fool.

Well, with the way the Scots travel Europe as mercenaries and our well deserved reputation for virility you might not want to be too critical of others bloodlines. You never know who could be in yours.  ;)

Ha, I knew it!!  I told my friend with me that he used to play the King's dwarf, or fool, or whatever and they insisted it was a different guy.  I thought he was awesome btw!!!  I just didn't see the rest of his group around.

The group are "floaters" meaning they are free to wander the site and not assigned to a particular area for the day.  Most of us are assigned to an area and must be there at all times unless in a show.

And you will be happy to know that Poppa Elf won our Performer of the Day Award for Saturday.  Each day one performance company member is singled out for special recognition for outstanding work on the path.  It can be a brand new performer or a years long veteran.  It matters not.  But when I see or hear of someone going gangbusters and entertaining a crowd or leaving a fantastic impression on our audience, then it needs to known.

Actually, feedback from our audience goes a long way in determining who receives the award on any particular day and if anyone reading this post feels the need to let us know about a great interaction you had with a particular character, please, let me know, or be sure to note that to one of the individuals conducting the exit surveys.

I'm so glad you enjoyed his character though.  I know how happy he is with it.

Oh, I am muy certain about my illustrious and impeccable pedigree. Besides, my Conquistadors could pick off those woad-faced skirt-wearers from a mile away.  :P

The elves did a terrific job on opening weekend.  They were out there interacting all the time and really looked like they were having a blast.  The guests also seemed to be having fun interacting with them as well.   There was one that had a striking resemblence to a certain shepardess.... hmmm...  ;D

I so wish I would have seen the Elves this past Saturday.  I will have to look again next time I go.

Red Bud and Oops saw Pappa Elf out on Saturday and went to investigate, though when he mentioned he was going to eat our wings with BBQ sauce, we ran away screaming and then everytime we saw him the rest of the weekend, we ran away screaming....  The other Elves were quite fun and silly too.  We danced around with Buttons cousin while her friend played the violin (no idea what their new cast names are....).

FYI, the elves fill in for the weekend's featured group. So this upcoming weekend, which features the Transylvanian court, the elves will be in Transylvania.

If you go lookin' for pierogies, you are certain to find the elves.
