So this weekend I plan on putting together my first set of clothing for Fest. A little late in the season as this weekend is the last of MNRF. My question is, (and if there is another thread, please feel free to point me to it. I couldn't find one) what would you suggest as far as garb. I've heard many say peasant garb is the way to go. But it just doesn't rub me the right way. i was thinking of going kilted, poet shirt, belt, frog and mug. possibly a sporran to start.
I'm very interested in your thoughts on the subject and if I am headed down a bad street so to speak. Thanks in advance
What garb to get is really up to the individual. It sounds to me like you already have an idea so I say go for it! What you said is a perfectly acceptable garb for faire so go for it! If later you decide you want to change to a different type then you can but you already have something to work with. If you are on a budget then I might suggest you check out www.stillwaterkilts.com and look at their heavy weight wool kilts. They run around $140 and are very good construction and VERY comfortable. I have one and LOVE it. They also have a variety of sporans there for reasonable prices as well. And for a little more you can get it within the week. A friend of mine ordered his on Wednesday and got it Friday morning! Good luck and enjoy your first garb!
Alot of people suggest starting with peasant garb because of cost, and it tends to be a little cooler to wear. But I agree, if you have a picture in your head of what you want, go for it. After a faire or two you'll probably refine it a little bit, and pick up a few odds and ends you didn't think of. Most important, be comfortable, and have fun.
I have returned from Fest today dressed to the best of my ability. I still need some decent boots and a nice hat...But that is what I plan to pick up in the coming year....
pictures? Sure..why not.

In the reply box, take a look at the menu above where you type. Above the second smiley, and under the italics I is a box that sort of looks like a painting (left of the globe). Click that.
You'll get an image code that looks like: [ img ] [ / img ] (only w/o the spaces). In between the brackets, paste the url of the image.
That ought to do it!

LOL, refine it?? I just keep adding to!! My garb collection gets bigger and better every year! By the end of next season, I won't need a garb closet but a garb ROOM! I'm a garb-aholic. What can I say.. ;)
Hope you enjoyed being in garb!! And at the very least, if you decide to no longer go to fest in garb, you have a great Halloween costume...

Woot! Got it. Thanks.
You sure did--and you look GREAT! I love a colored shirt....
Love your garb! You look fantastic!
Men in kilts . . . . . *sigh* ;D
You did a great job! Do what you feel is you. Most important is that you like it and you are comfortable. ;)
The bonus of the whole thing, my roommate turning around when I got home, dropped her phone. Picked it up, and said to her mother, who was on the other line. "Sweet Jesus, my roommate is wearing a blouse and a dress."
Priceless.....
Reminds me of one of my son's godfathers... Big chap from Glasgow, is Alex. Looks good in his 'posh frock' (Graham tartan) and purple sandwashed silk poet's shirt.
I like your green combo, too.
