Hello, my friends,

I know most of you know about Samhain and are planning on coming but here is a link to the info page with a schedule.  http://www.pittsburghirish.org/echoesoferin/Samhain2008/index.htm (http://www.pittsburghirish.org/echoesoferin/Samhain2008/index.htm)  I hope you can come before I'm on at 5:30.  Professor M will be doing readings all day but is on stage at 7:30.  The music is good all day.

Please come in garb or if you are tired of it, wear some other kind of costum.  The Harp is on Penn Avenue in the Strip and if you are coming from downtown you need to come up either Liberty or Smallman to 24th Street and then over to Penn because Penn is one way going towards town.  For you Google Maps types, the address is 2329 Penn Avenue - Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222  and for you GPS types, N40 degrees 27.205 - W079 degrees 58.838.

I look forward to seeing everyone.  I'm having rennie withdrawals.

Ha!  Started a new topic with a quote.  Cool, huh?

Diane makes it sound like I have a band: Michael Mykita and Psychic Scenes.  Actually I'm going to be doing parts of my mentalism act.  It's heavy with audience participation, so I hope some of you will be around to join in.  It'll be fun!

I may be giving readings, too, but not for the whole day.

Darn,  I was looking forward to hearing the "Psychic Scenes".  I bet they'd rock.  Songs like, "Going Out Of My Head", "I can See For Miles", "Do You Believe In Magic", "Witchy Woman", "That Old Black Magic", "If You Could Read My Mind".

I bet this crew could come up with some others.

Cool... I think I can go too!  I don't know if I can come in costume because I can't do up my corset on my own...

April, Bring your corset.  We used to lace one another up at morning meting so I am sure one of us could help you.

I am so excited that everyone is coming.  I hope we can all get there early enough to snag one of the big tables.  We put them together on long rows.  There are some smaller tables along the sides also and it all first come first serve, I can't reserve one for us.  It would be so cool to fill the plce with rennies ingarb.  Shake everyone up.  I know David, the manager, loves us!  And Terry has promised to do Health to the Company.  We can teach a whole new crop of people our tradition!

There's Witchcraft, Love Potion #9, and That Old Black Magic.  How about Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered?  Ooo!  I know!  You Were Always on my Mind!"

Actually, I'm afraid my real act will tank after all of this.  Fortunately I don't follow a musician.  I credit Diane for giving me a good spot in the lineup.

April, I believe it starts at 4.   I don't know when others will arrive.  I know I am coming when Terry gets back from Tonowanda.  He is playing at an Irish Pub there and leaving Sunday AM.  We are usually there every other year in the morning  to decorate but not this year.  But I am hoping to be there by 3:30 to help with last minute things.

I am really getting excited about this.  We need this!

Heather and I may show up at different times due to a game event at the shop (Giant monsters trashing Japanese cities, how cool is that!!).  We, too, are looking forward to this as well.  You can mark down two seats for us.

Thanks

The veil thins, the bone fire roars
With friends and those who walked before.

The wheel has turned the cycle renewed
Oh, good green Earth with life infused.

Go forth from here in coming year,
And tell all with willing ear

The Tribe is multiplied and strong
Those who sing the ancient song.

All Blessings be upon ye, your kith and kin

I'm getting excited for Samhain now.  I've had a long, tedious week, but Sunday will be pure fun!  I'm putting the finishing touches on my act, polishing the crystal ball, working on a more medieval look for my garb.  I can't wait to see you all there!

I am also getting excited for Sunday ;D !  I just have to figure out if I should go with Red or Blue for my clothing.  Kilted One has already decided to go with a Kilt...bet you were surprised to hear that ::).  I can't wait to see all my friends again.

Me too!!!!
I am sewing madly here trying to finish Terry's new coat and my red chemise.  I am wearing a Royal Stewart kirtle (Thanks, Sadira!).  I talked to him a couple of times over the weekend and he is having a great time in Tonawanda.  He says the place he is playing is beautiful and the crowd is great.  We hope to be there about 4.

Seriously, I thought it was so darned cool that you and Heather were made the King and Queen for this year!  You two are a perfect choice.  It's great to see you get that kind of recognition. Slainte!

What a great night!  It was so much fun seeing everyone again.
The Sisters of Ameritat opened more than a few eyes and they showed us that one can indeed wear a kilt and belly dancing garb.  Everyone enjoyed the dancing.
I had people I know from the crowd coming up to me and saying they also enjoyed us doing Health to the Company and how we all knew the words and clinked glassers with everyone.
Congrats to Kilted One and Lady Alchemy for being selected as King and Queen for the year.
Congrats to our very own Kip for coming in second place at the costume contest and our Sisters of Ameritat for coming in third.
And, Professor, you always manage to freak me out but seeing you up on the stage doing it this time was fantastic.  I know they would have loved to see more of you.

But, most of all, Thank all of you for helping support Echoes of Erin. That is her main fundraiser and it keeps her radio show on the air.  And, also, we made a lot of converts to the Ren Faire and I talked to several people who saw us having so much fun and are coming next year to the Faire, so we also get a lot of PR in for it.  In fact, one couple has decided to come in garb next year.

For those of youwho couldn't make it, we missed you.  The Rennies filled the place.  We had 2 long tables.  For this event, they put all of the tables in the middle together to form 3 room length tables.  We certainly had  apresence!

Thanks to all of you.  Diane came over and told Terry how thrilled she was that all of you came.  She is already planning next year's Samhain.  We have a debriefing meeting in 2 weeks and will talk over plans then.

Last night was awesome!  It was great seeing everyone. Congratulations to the new King and Queen of Samhain, Kip, and the Sister's!  The Rennies certainly did take over the place!  Hahaha!

Professor M, I don't know how you do it, but that was amazing!

And Terry, the music was excellent as usual!  It was fun singing the songs of faire again.

I plan on being there for the 23rd!

Ralf,  you never get to introduce yourself because you are always busy taking great pictures and I never get an opportunity to thank you.  You do such a great job of capturing the moments that we all want to remember.  Thank you for being our eyes after the fact.  I'm glad you were there and I wish I had been able to thank you in person but you would have probably missed a great shot while I was doing it so we'll have to express our thanks here.  THANK YOU!

To the rest of you, you are absolutely the best.  When you can have a great experience with dear friends and help someone at the same time, it doesn't get any better than that.  Just another reason our ren family is so important to us.  Thank you all for coming and I hope the evening was a memorable one.

Jan and I awoke yesterday to terrible colds.  I'm just glad it held off until yesterday and I hope we didn't pass it along.  I think I picked it up in in Buffalo.

I hope to everyone at the Harp again on the 23rd.

Love you all.

All the photos are done and on my PhotoBucket site, http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn140/PittsburghIrishNetwork/Rennies%20at%20Samhain%202008/ (http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn140/PittsburghIrishNetwork/Rennies%20at%20Samhain%202008/).  These 124 pictures and those of Ralf Brown make a great story of the day.

The day was one of those that we will remember for years to come.  Some highlights:  Kip won 2nd prize in the costume contest, The Sisters Ameritat won 3rd.  Kilted one and Lady Alchemy were chosen as the new King and Queen.  The Sisters danced with my music and Professor M amazed everyone with his mentalism and palm readings.

Everyone had a great time and the rennies outnumbered the rest of the crowd.

If anyone wants the large version of any of these suitable for printing, renmail me with an email address and I'll send them out.

Thanks to everyone who made it a great day.  See you there next year.

Wow, there are some fun pictures in there.  It reminds me how much fun we had, while pointing out how much I missed while I was in the alcove giving readings!  It was a fun event, and I wouldn't change a minute of it.  I'm already looking forward to next year.

Just to give everyone an advanced notice, the date for Samhain  2009 has been decided.  It will be celebrated on November 1st.  That's a bye week for the Steelers.  Mark you calendars and I hope to see everyone back again this year.

For those who missed it last year, check out the photos.  It was a great time.

Granted, but we have to plan the observance hs to be planned around Steeler games and the availability of the pub.  In past years, it has been celebrated early in October.  Like Christmas parties, we use Samhain as an excuse to party (as if we needed an excuse).  Appologies to anyone who observes the date as part of their religous belief and may be offended by our secular use of the holiday.  We do explain the traditions as part of the program but most people just use it to have a gathering of friends.

Understood and no offense taken. The spirit of the day counts. The veil thins on this day. Set an extra place at the table.
