Title: Bloomers- HELP!! (cincher & belt too)
Post by: Lishy on October 10, 2008, 12:51:56 PM
Okay, hate topost before Ive even really re-introduced myself, but Im in a bit of a bind.  We found out last minute we are getting to attend TRF for pirate weekend (nov 1), and so Im in a scramble to get my garb together.  Ive lost a ton of weight this last year so none of my older garb fits very well, plus most of it was either peasant or gypsy wear.  I want to be a pirate! Argggh!

My biggest need is some black bloomers.  I prefer shorter ones (knee length or shorter- I know Ive seen em) or ones I can tie up.  Anyone know where I can get a pair rather quickly?  The one site I found what I wanted on cant ship for 14 business days.

The other piece Id like to find is a cincher or underbust corset.  Purple would be fabulous but Im open. . . Im thinking I might go with the Brigantine from Odd Bodkin I found on Ebay unless anyone has a better suggestion.

And one other thing- what kind of belt will work over the cincer or corset for my pouch, mug strap, etc?  Id like something that stays in place pretty well, and the ring belts always seem to need adjusting on me.

Thanks in advance for any help!

The fastest way for the bloomers is probably gonna be making them.. I like the simplicity belly dance pattern. There is a herem pants pattern that I trim down for the bloomers. Perfect for the pirate thing and super comfy too,

My advice is to wear a mundane pair of shorts to the faire and buy your Bloomers there.  For a belt a long man's garrison or multi hole belt and wrap it like a ring belt for stability.   You can also get a pair of gachos and run elastic at the knee to make them ruffle.

Here's a quick way to make bloomers - buy a pair of black scrub pants at Wal-mart, chop off the bottom, and put a quick drawstring channel in the bottom. Run ribbons through the channel, and viola! Bloomers, or venetians in about 15 minutes. The only hard part is removing the pocket from the back...

A seam ripper will get the pocket off in no time, and if you tack a piece of matching ruffled lace on the bottom you don't even have to hem them (if you're in a big hurry)! Make sure the ribbon is in a contrasting color that matches the rest of your outfit.

If I could sew more than a button, these would be awesome suggestions.  *grin*  Thanks though, I have ideas to pass along to my mum.

I decided to just buy some black leggings since my chemise is hip length.

You all rock for your suggestions!
