Guess we should start a thread now, so I shall get it going.
Was great to see the McLotofus crew and everyone else. I had a great time and only complaint was the sun and its effect on the temperature, photos, and my scalp. Looking forward to my next visit already and seeing everyone again.

My thoughts exactly. Though I have to wait till Highland Fling - It'll be worth it.
Hey Teach,
Looks like every time you snaped a shot I either had my mouth open or eyes closed. Hope you enjoyed the show.
Enjoyed it greatly, very glad to have the pirates back at the Sea Devil where they belong!
Honestly, I tried to get a good shot of each of you but from where I sat it just wasn't happening. I'll try All Hallows Eve to get a shot of ya with the correct openings and closings lol
*try offering me rum and I bet I can get all kinds of shots*
Had an amazing time this weekend, it's so great to be surrounded by great friends and great spirits. Only wishing that All Hallows Eve would get closer!

This is my first time to perform in the Sea Devil, but yes I am glad we are back.
We had some fun audiences in this this past weekend and i know it will just get crazier as we go along.
*I think I would be worried what type of shots the rum would make us do...*
Meg, love the pics. You had some great ones of us in our pirate gear!! Too bad you didn't have any of the QE1 garb. Of all the hundreds of pics taken, apparently only the mundanes got any of the pics!!

No, no. I've not posted any pictures. The link I posted if for Paul's pictures for Photography On The Run. I love looking at his pictures (and looking for myself in them) and I know a lot of people here wait eagerly to see them when he posts them. I was just posting the link so everyone could know he's updated with last weekend's pictures.

I've got a lot to learn about the advanced functions as I probably took 350 pictures and deleted over half of them. TRF is a most beautiful place, but the light conditions can be very challenging. As a backup, I carried my trusty Canon PowerShot A620 that I've been using for the past three years (I'm a lot more comfortable with it's controls).

A few shots of the always-fabulous Royal Fireworks. I hope one of the pyrotechnicians or cast members can tell us what the symbol is that was lit on the Arena floor.

The TRF Performance Company practices for months before opening, and most stay in character for about 11 straight hours per day. They work passionately so that the rest of us can enjoy the fantasy and majesty of the grandest faire of all. Take a wee bit of time to interact with them and let them know how much we appreciate their efforts. They are an integral part of the magic of TRF.
Hear Hear to the cast!! We appreciate what u do and realize there are few who could do it even half as well!!
Sir Martin,
Thank you for the kind words, yes we work had but it is the thing we all love to do, it is our escape also. The hardest thing after performing a character for 11 hours straight is to drop the character at the end of the night. I know that there is a little Broadside turned on for the entire weekend, even when I am not on stage.
I agree with Sir Martin if you feel up to it play with us that is what we are there for. We are there to make the whole world seem as lifelike as possible. YOU would be amazed at how deep most of our persona's run.
Thank you so much Sir Martin. It's always good to hear that people appreciate our efforts in doing what we love to do.
Yes HUZZAH for cast! Even though we don't tell you enough what a great job you do with the long hours, heat/cold/rain and God knows what else is thrown at you, you are always there for us.
I know that every year I look forward to faire (some people go to Disneyworld for vacation, I go to faire) I know I will have the best time because of committed hard working people that strive for excellence and go above and beyond to make my stay there enjoyable.
I returned yesterday on an unscheduled visit, had a great day. The crowd was impressive, I think we are going to have record breaking numbers again... The cast was wonderful and the interactions with the crowd were great to watch and even be a part of. Oh, and fairies EVERYWHERE! :)

Most excellent photos Melkar, as usual :)
So did you come to a conclusion on whether you liked the 70-200mm f/4 lense your were testing out? Was the difference worth the loss of the 100mm from the other lense you use? I am pleased with the results I have been seeing from mine. These past couple weekends were the first real chance I got to use it a lot.
ok i am in love....wow what a great costume. the girl with the lily pad umbrella. yeowza
Bahahahaha. Oh wow...now THAT is priceless. 8)
Excellent photos, M'Lords Valt and Melkar! I thought Chianti wasn't going to be on cast this year, but there were some photos of her with a TRF performers badge on. Did she change her mind or was it just for 1001 Dreams weekend? Queen Titania isn't listed among the fae this year either, but there she was with her beautiful ginormous wings!
Keep up the good work, gents.
Chianti was there opening weekend too, I believe she is on the cast, however I can't speak for certain on the subject though. As for Queen Tatiana, I do believe she was just a 1001 Dreams weekend only thing.

Dude, you get major brownie points for A: remembering me, and B: recognizing me.
I am on a pass this season with a performers badge but I'm not 'officially' on cast. Which gives me the flexibility of schedule that I needed this season. I came out as Jingles the Jester on Opening Weekend and as Dewdrop the fairie yesterday.

Jennifer Ellis, who plays Titiania is VERY pregnant and due the first week of December. She was out this past weekend as she is featured on the program cover for 1001 Dreams and she was holding court, signing autographs this weekend. She looked FANTASTIC!
Well congratulations to Jennifer, and huge thanks to her for her dedication and support to the festival for showing up under such circumstances. I have always enjoyed seeing her Titiana character while at festival, her huge wings make her an easy subject to spot.
Valt, you got some really great pics of Oops the fairy and Red Bud, thanks so much!!
Thanks to all for sharing the wonderful pictures. It'll have to do us until we make the trek down from the Red River. Every photo I see screams "wish you were here!" and boy do we wish we were there! Can't wait to "be in the picture".......See you all in a few weeks. Again, thanks for sharing.

Haha, thanks Fergus :)
Sir Martin: Contrats on the XSi. I hear ya about the learning curve. Happens to me every time, get a new camera body and my picture quality drops like a rock. After about 2000 images you get the controls down, by about 10000 images it's back to being automatic again. ;)
Vault: Yep, the 70-200mm f/4 is sweet. Big wins are better contrast, much better auto-focus speed (schweeet!), and 1 stop faster. Downsides, pricey (this is the IS version) compared to non-IS, it's a bit heavier than the old lens, and losing 100mm at the long end. However the 200-300mm range on the old lens was always soft. Trade-offs, I'm still keeping the old lens as there are times when I know I'm going to need the extra focal length (and for times when I don't want to stand out as a walking STEAL ME! sign in unknown urban areas). :-\ Did you figure out if your Sigma flash can do High Speed Sync with the Canon?
Well I had to go searching for the box and documentation for the flash, but it does do High Speed Sync apparently. I really don't have much knowledge about flash usage to understand more than flash on/off and bouncing the flash. I need to get my head wrapped around flash work and some other areas of proper camera adjustments (such as exposure adjustment) to improve my photography.
I am very pleased with the auto-focus speed myself on my 70-200mm, beats the crap out of the old cheapo 70-300mm I used to shoot with. I am not really missing the IS capabilities, however I haven't tried it low light settings yet where it might come in handy. Plus it is 1/2 the price of the IS version, so was an easy choice for what I typically shoot.

Um, last time I checked, I don't wear chain maille, and neither do the guys from Dark Cloud Leather. That photo was taken on Sunday morning, I was in the middle of an interview with Catherine O'Riley. Nice girl :P
Yeah - I think he had more of a breast fetish, and it didn't seem to matter if the subject was male or female.
Not that theres ANYTHING wrong with that, Having a breast fetish that is (o:
I personally prefer mine to be of the female variety
Ok wow....
THE PHOTOGRAPHER WAS FEMALE!!!!!!!!! A MUNDANE, ABERCROMBE/GAP WEARING, WELL PUT TOGETHER FEMALE!! She was very sweet, and asked very nicely to take my picture. I highly doubt that there was anything behind it- she shot what she found to be interesting. I'm proud to be one of her interests :P

Mabey that's their style. I myself am a photographer and have noticed that most people try to take them in portrait style. The type featured in Houston Press was more editorial/documentary. Which is how they should be for press, show more of the environment as well. I posted it because I thought it was cool that Blue was in the main photo.
Besides, I see all types of people bragging about what they use to take their pics all the time. I may be young but I'm old school, Olympus e500, I actually have to focus my camera not point and click or auto focus like most Nikons and Canons are now. I come out with images completely in focus and use unorthodox angles to enhance the pic. Just my little input. I haven't had time to walk around and take any this year because I'm working, but I will soon.

6'8" actually, but I won't begrudge it being off an inch :) And the height apparently doesn't help with the taco tossing...
I never realize how tall I am till I see a picture of me standing next to someone, which Fergus just graciously provided. At least he is wearing a hat, so I don't look too overly tall. Well, unless you notice the people walking behind me.
A pic of you and I together, Valt, would look quite interesting. Since you are over a foot and a half taller than me!

You know Valt, your lens is almost as tall as you..lol
Between you, Paul and Sir Martin, you're sorely tempting me to go fondle some Canons and maybe retire my Nikon D40. :D
I mainly ended up with a Canon because I had a Canon Rebel 2000 film camera for a black & white photography class I took in college. Since I had a couple lenses already it was the way to go. Nikon makes a good camera too. Although as far as I know they don't have any white lenses that say "Look at me!" that I am aware of. :)

Good points, Valt. I have a good friend who is about to trade his Nikon D50 for a Canon 40D (or maybe the new 50D). Lens availablity is the main reason (he has several friends and relatives who will swap lenses with him whenever they attend different events). Nikon also makes a wonderful camera ... I've never gotten into that "my brand is better than your brand" thing ... it's kinda silly when you look at the quality of equipment available today. :)

Rumy knows what she is talking about. The photog needs a better understanding of light and fill flash.
Wow I have been gone a long time and see I have had to start over on posts. ho hum.
Hmmm, somebody seems to be bringing up the rear...
the rear can be nice at the faire. ;)
I got busy trying to build a business and havent had time to do much of anything. I was the cat that was running the feast hall a couple of seasons ago for Prince Charles. Started a wedding photography biz and havent had time to commit to working at the faire any longer. I will be photographing a wedding on Nov 22 at the chapel. I am pretty excited about it. Maybe we will see some of you there. We are heading to the faire this weekend as my wife and partner needs to get garbed for the shoot on the 22nd. She is not to excited about it but hopefully she will find something she likes to wear and will "get into it".

I can't get over the pictures of Lady Elizabeth and Rumy. You two look like you are having so much fun. I sure wish that I had been able to bring my daughter that weekend. She would have had a blast with you two and the other fairies.

We will be there closing weekend so we'll we if we can ya both.
We'll certainly be there closing weekend, but I'm thinking it will be much too chilly for our fairy garb!! Look forward to meeting you though.
were you referring to highland fling weekend then?
Yes, that's correct!

And you're welcome Monty!! :D
No, Thank YOU Tony!! We had FUN That day!!!!
Thank you Reaper! Although I look very angry in this picture for some reason? LOL
I hope everyone enjoyed seeing the Ice Queen Faerie this weekend. She will return for the final weekend, as every Christmas, be it Celtic or otherwise, needs a little touch of Ice and Snow. What Fun!!

I was drawn to the eyes Taarna. I was only able to get that one quick shot off. Monty was hounding me to take his pics with all the other women.lol..I tell ya the man is a babe magnet...
Actually I was going for mostly candids this weekend. And even though you look like you could freeze someone's heart with that look, I know it's all just a persona..:)
Indeed it is a persona... and apparently a very well liked one as I received quite a reception from mundanes, employees, adults, children, everyone... the ones that interacted with me through out the weekend were fantastic and several times I had folks walk up to me and thank me for my efforts to making their Ren experience that much more the better.
The Ice Queens's heart was definately melted several times this weekend. I LOVE TRF!
Taarna, I saw you this weekend when I was working the large kettle corn pole! You were indeed quite striking, I swear I almost dropped my stick.
Absolutely astounding, Taarna!
Never having seen your face I knew not who to look for my dear Captain Renard, but I did stand and look a few time in passing, and only saw a sample wench. I apologize to thee for not stopping to sample thy wares, as they smelled heavenly, but in my persona I do not speak as human ears can not hear or understand the language of fae...
I shall stop come Celtic Christmas. I promise!
Taarna, although i've seen ur small pic on here, i didn't recognize u this weekend. However, now that i see those pics of you i know that i saw you. Your costume is fabulous!! I love the contacts!! You literally look like you were pulled out of another world.
It was great!! HOpe to see you again and talk to you the last weekend!!

Ahhh Thank you!! THAT is what I was going for... Humanoid, but not HUMAN. An ice fae... Thank you so much for the compliments. I have worked pretty hard to make the upgrades. (I just didn't like the way it looked last year) It takes forever to get ready, and it's very WARM but the reaction I am getting from folks, be it general public, children, or the folks that are more seasoned playtrons, and employees is heart warming (pun intended) :)
I loved the children that ran to me asking for faerie dust, and in return received a bottle of faerie bubbles, and had glistening faerie snow sprinkled over them. They absolutely ate it up!
I am so happy I came up with what appears to be an original character that seems to be well received.
I think I will ask this here... I'm a worker for Imaginarium galleries (the people who sell the dragon puppets just inside the front gate) and I was wondering if anyone got a good shot of my dark jester costume on all hallows eve weekend? I really liked the costume (red and black alternating) and I worked really hard on it but because I was working I didn't have much time to focus on getting a photo taken of myself.
Thank you in advance for letting me know!

I wish I could say that was true for everyone, but even though the photo he caught of me from All Hallows Eve is a great photo, I look horrible in. That's why I'm behind the lense, not in front of it. ;D

Yes Sir! I can see them! Thank you!
Huzzah! Nice picture of Tempest and my Evil Twin!
In Martin's pics, there were a couple of pics of fairie statues. Can someone tell me what shop that is? I'm thinking perfect x-mas gift for Kirby!
oh shoot... I can't remember the name of the shop but I can tell you about the area it is in! if you are at the jousting ring facing outward as if you are leaving their are shops compleatly facing you its in one of those shopes facing the jousting ring. Its a narrow shop and probably will have a couple fancy kites decorating the outside if memory serves!
If memory serves me (It might not!!) It was a wide ,not deep, jewlery shop. Possibly Earth Art,but don't quote me!! MM
Did anyone take pics on Sunday?? I know Lord Z caught me, but he hasn't posted his pics yet.
You know better then I Matin you were there on the day you took the picture XD not me!
Great pictures, Martin!
;D Thank you all!!! I FINALLY got my Pictures to work!!!
Thanks for helping me theshyfox and Martin. I'm sure I can find it now, and it's close to the Sea Devil, which I'm at half the day anyway!
lady Laura: I think it is Titanias Garden.... I have no idea where it is! but they are loaded with fairies.
Does any one have pics of radar?.i know alot were taken of him, and josh has been tryin to find 'em
Awesome pictures > Lord Martin
oh oh! I also have another question! No one here happened to get a picture of the man with the chain saw for a hand did they? He dressed up the first weekend, the second weekend, and halloween weekend! Thanks for letting me know!
I didn't see him, but I am guessing he was supposed to be Ash from Army of Darkness?
yes he's my boyfriend XD he'll be their this saturday... though i don't know if he'll be dressing up. I'll have to ask. I have a REALLY good shot of him from last year but he's not holding up the chain saw so... its not quite as good as it could of been. Sometimes I hate being chained to the shop all day... I miss out on taking alot of great pictures and I have to rely on others to get them for me. :'(
Hey! I saw him first weekend and told him I loved his costume! I didn't have my camera though :(
I just found out my boyfriend will definately be at ren fest this weekend and WILL be dressed up. Please got lots of pictures of him as Ash from Army of Darkness!! Thanks in advance!!!
Excellent photos Abby! Thanks for sharing.

Your faire is beyond marvelous, and I'll be trying to convince other friends to join me next year. I know I took quite a few photod of buildings and such, but I've never been to such a site before, and in some ways it was unbelievable. Besides, this was my way of bragging to some of my West-coast faire family about what's so fantastic about Texas.
I only wish I could return this season!

You came in my shop! The bookstore acrosss from the POW. I knew you looked familiar but couldn't place you. The ladies you were with said it was your first time at TRF so I chalked it up to one of those faire mysteries.

Excellent pictures Clarendon. This one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottd6057/3059905011/in/set-72157610140857260/) in particular was quite amusing. You even managed to get me. I thought I recognized the gentleman snapping a picture at one point :)
My pictures from yesterday are up. Thanks to Queen Bonnie's weather magick the rain stayed away! My family and niece were in attendance, so I had to focus on my favorite model (my niece) most of the day, but managed to make the rounds a couple times and get some good shots. I hope you enjoy.

Ditto what Eloquent said. So you went with the D80 instead of the D60? There are a few photography shoppes at TRF and I know that one of them uses a Nikon D80 as well as a D300 for their portraits. The D80 is a darn good camera.

This is a great way to display pictures, Lishy. It's also fine to just post a link, but when the photographer uses commentary along with the picture to identify the person(s) or scenario, it can give a better perspective to what is transpiring. This is a good way for R/F forum members to associate faces with forum names. Nice pics.

The barbarian lady in chain mail is Tammy. A very funny wacky gal! We call her "Hammy" in camp....if you've ever seen Over the Hedge..you'll know what I mean!

Funny and wacky is right. On Barbarian Invasion weekend, a fellow was taking a picture of me with Poppa Elf, and Tammy apparently decided she wanted to be in the shot. She literally dove down in front of us just before the photo was snapped (almost knocked Poppa over). When she got up, she had leaves all over her. :)

Hello Everyone!
Sorry it's taken my so long to thank eveyone for such a wonderful time and the great hospitality, but I started a new job when I returned home from Texas. I hope that if any of you decide to venture north I can show you the same kindness.
A Special thank you to Queen Bonnie for the grand song at The Prince of Wales pub, what a treat, and I love my new necklace. ;D
Trillium ~ I'm so sorry to have missed you on Friday, because I was so looking forward in meeting you.
I also have a favor to ask, if it is at all possible, I stopped by the privy and washed my hands and forgot to pick up two of my ring. The one I'm most concerned about was a family heirloom. It had been in my family for 4 generations. The ring is white gold/silver with filagree on both side of the band by the stone, black onyx stone(oblong/sq.) with a Letter A and a diamond set in the stone. I called the faire the following morning and they were very short with me and said nothing was found. I left my rings at Privy #8 by the Sea Devil pub.... If by chance anyone could inquirrer at the office again for me or keep and ear/eye open for the ring, I would be most grateful.
Last but not least.... The link to my pictures:

BTW... Wonderful pictures out there!
May I snag a group shot picture from someone?
Fair Thee Well and Happy Holidays to all!

Call the office right away. They have a lost and found and they keep everything turned in, in the main office.
And feel free to take any of my pictures.

It was great meeting new friends and catching up with what was going on with everyone!
Those are awesome, Melkar!!! I love them. I am so totally using one of the ones you took of me for an icon now.

Melkar thank you for capturing this picture of me. You can see the rings I left on the counter in privy #8, the one next to the Sea Devil pub, on Saturday. I hoped that someone might have turned them in to the lost and found. The square/rectangle ring with Onyx, diamond, and a letter "A" is a 4th generation family heirloom. I called the faire the next day, but nothing was turned in.

Lady Ann I remember starring at your ring it was so beautiful. I would call again, maybe somebody turned it in later.
Melkar, thanks for the fun pix! ;D

I called the office this morning with no luck. :'(
That is so sad to lose something so beautiful and a family heirloom. I hope they turn up. Do not give up. Hugs!
Thanks for the encouraging words! The turnout on closing weekend was terrific. A target rich environment. ;)
LadyAnn: I hope your rings eventually turn up.
Melkar, it was such a pleasure meeting you. I treasure the portrait you took of me (I usually look like some kind of mummified troll in pics).

You should be able to renmail Dana directly; just search "members" for Stalkwell.
