Title: Looking for......
Post by: Muffin on October 14, 2008, 03:28:47 PM
Ladies (and Gents) I am trying to find out where I can get a "jewelry belt".. Not sure how else to describe it except something that would be like a long string of pearls or bead/jewels that I could wear around my waist with noble garb, that would come down in one long string in front of me with some kind of cross or larger bead at the end..

Any idea's where I can find something like that? Or am I better off just going to a craft store and getting beads and making my own??

Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

Many folks on E Bay sell them and you can get them for a relatively cheap price.

They ARE called girdles and I have several pieces of Sapphire and Sage jewelry. They are very high quality and have lasted me a long time - and mine get used a LOT!!  8)

In fact, she made the jewelry for my Renaissance wedding. She may be a wee bit more expensive but the quality is well worth it.

Muffin!!! You won't be disppointed.

I too reccommend Sapphire & Sage. A wee bit more, but worth it. I just spent a small fortune there for jewels set in Gold in Emerald and Ruby for the Pelican Gown I am going to be making. I have ordered from them before and the quality is excellent.

I know what you mean Lady Kathleen - I too spent a small fortune on my wedding jewels. But again - WELL worth it!

While I have a Sapphire and Sage girdle belt I was not so sturdy and I was not real happy with it. That does not mean I would not get another, I just go to far extremely prepared for it to break.

On my first visit to fair it pulled apart, I had safety pins and fixed it. The 3rd visit the cross fell off some place most likely the rest room from trying to use the privy. That ended up costing me more.

So I'd get some extra parts to repair with and carry a small needle noose pliers on you in case of an emergancy. I carry the wire, the pearls and some finished pearls with wire in case I need to fix the belt.

Another place to check is http://stores.ebay.com/Dragonpipes-Den_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsxQ3asstQQtZkm (http://stores.ebay.com/Dragonpipes-Den_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsxQ3asstQQtZkm) similar to Sapphire and sage but a little cheaper. I have ear rings and a necklace from her and it is nice. It's Dragonpipes Den if you want the name which is in the link.

Lady de Laney --

Did you contact Rhonda and tell her this happened? I'm asking because the same thing happened to my (wedding garb) girdle. It basically exploded - but I think it was pulled some by a bench I was sitting on.

I told Rhonda about it and she fixed it for me at no charge (all I had to pay for was shipping). Since she fixed it I have had no problems.

Rhonda is good like that - as long as you let her know there's a problem she will do her best to make it right.

I did but had to pay for my parts. I fixed it myself withthe parts she sent, but I also had already gone to the hobby store and gotten what I needed and now keep a repair kit in my car. I did not have time to ship it back and then have it back by the time my next trip to faire was.

Looking for girdles?  Try Panpipes on eBay!! Not only are the spectacular? They are not pricey she will make up anything for you and if you do a matching set e.g. necklace, earrings and girdle she will work a deal for you. I have several of her pieces and I can't speak more highly for someone.

Truly if you have a bead shop in your area? You can ask them how to make jewelry or take classes for it, I know it is pretty simple and basic, you need the findings which you can purchase from many sites and jump rings and you need some pliers.  I have given you the basics for this, I personally purchased from Panpipes because I did not have the time to do all I wanted and so I had to spend money.

I hope this helps!

So I decided to make one of these instead of buying one for now... What do you think??  :) It's not exactly what I wanted, but it will work, and I think it will add something to the garb.. (I'll post pictures of the garb when it arrives).....

I used 24 gauge jewelry wire and bought all of the beads at Michaels for about 30$.. It took me about 3 hours to complete..
