Title: Fairy Fun
Post by: LadyElizabeth on October 16, 2008, 10:57:00 AM
I am getting so very excited for this weekend and being a fairy!!!  My sister and I dress as Oops and Red Bud the fairy twins.  We have bubble and marshmallow fights, and then when we get bored with that, we have fairy dust fights and always make sure to include others in them as well!!  It's like my return to childhood silliness time and I am so looking forward to it!!

I wanted to see who else has gotten into dressing as a fairy just cause the fairies seem to always be having the most fun?

And if you don't dress as a fairy, what is the funniest thing you've ever seen a fairy do?

oh, to be a fairy.... you dont' have to make excuses bout being ADD.  fairies are naturally flighty.  you can act ridiculous and no one turns thier noses up at you and tells u to act ur age.  you can dance and skip and make funny noises --- and others have a compelling urge to join u :)  you can show ur fear in the face of scary oggers and not feel like a wuse.  you make every childs day by just waving coyly at them.   ;)  you feel one with nature and glory in just a ray of sunshine.  when a child approaches with glowing eyes, you know they really believe u r a fairy come to earth just for them....

yeah, fairy fun!!!!  i can't wait.

Well it was for Halloween... Full beard, near-military style haircut, hairy chest and legs, all in a red sequin dress with little wings attached to the back. Needless to say, I won the Costume Contest that year.

DS, I'm sure you did.... "stiffles more laughter"....

Queen Bonnie, you know you've "created" a few fairies in your day!!  You could always wave that wand and make yourself a fairy for the weekend.... silliness does abound with thee fairies friends!

Bwahahahah, Nice Dragonspyre. Or well, not nice for the mental image.

I am coming as a nymph for 1001 Dreams, but I did see Twig at Scarby Sword fight Chris with a Safer Sword and WIN! There should be video of it somewhere.

Chris also chased her around with a marshmallow crossbow and got her right in the but, she then took one and dueled with him and after taking only one out of the three steps required, turned around and shot Chris right in the face!

We took BBQ sauce and followed her with a fork for a few minutes, then when she saw, she set all the children on Chris with Safer Swords and they beat the snot out of him! LOL.

I nearly fell over I was laughing so hard.

I wish Noobler had a realm at TRF... sigh...  I loved dancing to his singing and blowing fairy farts (bubbles and fairy magic to me) at him and giggling histerically as he "ewed" and ran...

Mayhap I need to break out my bottle of "Fairy Sauce" for this weekend.. hmmmm..  I cannot dress as a fairy as I have to be at work at my booth and well, the whole fairy look would just not go over well at the Pirates Cove. I will however be wearing my kilt for Highland Fling weekend ;)

"N Double O B L E R Noobler, N Double O B L E R Noobler, All you need is  curly hat, some curly shoes and a butt that's fat, N Double O B L E R Noobler. That's my song what's yours"?

You know, you could be literally a PURPLE DRAGON one year.... that would rock!  Wings would at least include you in the Fae world!  Then fairies would most certainly be terrified of you... unles your a good dragon like Puff... haha

Don't let his bluster fool you, PD is a good dragon!   ;D

I loved being winged!!  I haven't been able to give them up to wear any of my other garb, although I plan to go in disguise once this year.
I haven't been able to play as much as I used to since I have my boy to watch over now.

Trillium, you should go find the fairies on cast by the gardens and let them play with your boy and you can play along...  They were grand fun last year and we should be over there some this weekend as well!  We love playing with the kids and getting them involved in the silliness....

if i was able to go this weekend, i think i would find me a tu-tu, not shave for a week, get a teara and a wand, then wonder around with a cigar in my mouth..lmao similar to this photo of my friend at a halloween party.  he has a starwars lightsaber stuck between his legs, but the costume is pricless.

Personally, I'll be in my usual pirate finery, but my mutinous scalawag crew has decided that they can dress in wings and gauze and moonbeams and the like.

And yet, I'll bet they still want to share in the rum, the villains.

Wish we were able to make it out this weekend.  This is the first year our 2 year old daughter was able to run around and play with the fairies.  She had a blast playing with the bird fairie on the grass in the german village.  Really ticks me off that we lost our camera.  She was having a ball.

Oops and Red Bud always enjoy playing with the kiddos.... we always bring little "treats" for them ranging from dragon tears to Snarffles to some good ole fairy dust!!

Actually, if you look closely at the armor I am wearing, the chest and back pieces are black and purple Dragon "skin".  My armor and helm are a Purple and Black dragon so I got that covered.  Now if I can only figure out/come up with the servos necessary to make the wings move easily, I'll be all set.

Greetings all! Been awhile since I've posted, but I will be reprising the role of the Ice Queen Faerie again this year. I had been working on it prior to Ike, and although my home did sustain a bit of flooding damage from a very angry bay, I have managed to save a good bit of my garb and costuming, (lost the majority of my mundanes if that tells you where my priorities lie)  :)

I originally thought all was lost and we would NOT be attending TRF this year, but the vote was cast, and hubby, son, mother, and everyone else thinks this will be very good medicine for all of us to escape reality for awhile. So we are shooting for at least ONE weekend of escape during the TRF run this year. I'd like more but just don't know if finances, and situation will permit.

So, in as silly as an Ice Queen Faery can be... I am looking ever so very forward to it.

May whatever diety you believe in bless you all richly.

Aye Sir Martin! We must make it at least once this year, as this will be the first year EVER I will have my dear hubby transformed into a fantasy creature as well. The closest I have EVER got him to any kind of garb was a black denim utility kilt. LOL

This year he will become a troll, and I must say his tranformation may be a bit scary, but trolls aren't exactly cute cuddly creatures. LOL

My son, the Flaming Bonsai will once again reprise his role as my sidekick, Jack Frost.

I don't know which weekend we will attend yet, but will post when I know. I hope to meet you as well, and hopefully see many of my friends and Ren Family as well.

One thing is for sure... The Texas Renaissance Festival keeps hope alive in my heart, even for my torn apart mundane world. The magic extends the gates of faire..

So this weekend was a blast!!  We played with the fairies on Saturday, blew tons of bubbles for children, gave out tons of dragon tears and Snarffle eggs to fairies in training, tried to keep our adult Snarffles under control while they tried to beat each other to death (though snarffles are pretty squishy so they really don't hurt), then we made up Fairy baseball with a snarffle and parasol (which was actually one of the funnest things we came up with this weekend), and in general we played and had tons of fun!! Yeah for imagination and silliness!

Thank you Trill. We did evacuate, those were just memories I didn't wish to have. I'm sure you saw on the news San Leon was devistated.
My home did flood, but it still stands. We are currently relocated to an apartment in League City until my home is in livable condition again.

I managed to save MOST of my costuming and garb for TRF, RHPS, Halloween, ect, but most of my mundane clothing was claimed by yucky stuff.. LOL I guess you know where my priorities lie.  ;D

We will definately be attending at least one weekend, hoping for two, but I'll take whatever I can get. I NEED to go to trf, now more then ever!

So, my two year old fell in love with the fairies opening weekend.  We bought her a pair of wings to go with her ruffle skirt.  Unfortunately, they are faire wings and are not the best quality.

Some questions:
1) Whats the best material to make wings out of
2) what is the best way to attach said wings to baby fairy

Thanks,

Michael

Most are made out of wire and sheer nylon material... the hired faeries at faire have the cellophane wings which you can look up online they are gorgeous!

I make my own though! I make mine out of natural looking stuff because I don't fancy the butterfly  look! I make them out of leaves and  feathers and flowers. I like to blend in!

There are a ton of good websites out there for wings!

http://www.artofwings.com/fairy_wings.htm

http://www.fairylove.com/

this page has a bunch of links:  http://www.diylife.com/2007/10/20/make-your-own-fairy-wings/

and shameless plug just so you can see what my wings look like : http://faehollow.wordpress.com

as for the best way to attach the wings... elastic straps should hold pretty well but I say sew or tie on a ribbon on eachside of the bottom of the wings and tie it around the waist so that they don't fall off

anyway I hope that helps you!!!! Enjoy your little faery and raise her up in the faery way! :D nothing more fun than a little faery running around!

-----------
Elizabeth- I dug up your faery photos from 1001 dreams and you guys were so adorable! I saw you last weekend in your elizabeth garb and thought it was stunning! I am in a costume history course right now and we had just finished the renaissance period and learned about a headrail and i had no clue what it looked like from behind until I saw you out there!

I will be out there at highland fling dressed as a faery once again! This time My wood nymph friend and I are going to be the pets of 2 rather sulky royals... we have chains and everything. should be fun and interesting way to incorporate the renaissance world with the faery one! Don't quite know how I was captured! :D

Faehollow, I would not say my neckrail or whisk as some people call it is 100% accurate, but I tried to.  There are many different designs out there and I just did what actually worked.

Being captured by royals would be very funny!!  Let us know what story you come up with!
