Title: Favorite Event All Weekend!
Post by: Element of Air on October 20, 2008, 01:12:38 PM
My favorite thing about this weekend was getting to see everyone again, and rather than being rushed around trying to say hello to EVERYONE, I was able to slow it down a bit and actually speak with people that I have known for years but never actually spoke with.

Also seeing some other people and shops that I had missed on first weekend being so rushed around as I was.

What was your favorite thing about this or the first weekend at Fair?

Fairy baseball and Snarffle fights!!!  Things no one else by Rumy will get... and of course those lucky few who saw these events play out.... Being silly rocks, but having a great imagination is the only thing that makes being a fairy really come to life!!  Rumy and I bought these smooshy wiggly kids toys at the store for 1 dollar and thought, hey they match our outfits and could be fun... they turned into our main source of enjoyment and silliness this weekend.  And Fairy baseball began with throwing snarffles back and forth and then deciding that hitting it with a parasol would be extra fun!  And then the term "snaffles" we made up for these little colored give away toys, they're our snaffle eggs.... then we decided our large play toys were their parents, the snarffles...  yeah for fun!!

Hmmm....favorite event all weekend from first weekend?

Well aside from EVERYTHING, my favorite thing is just being with the faire-mily, those moments whenever you see people for the first time in several months and the pure joy and happiness of just being around them. Being able to just wander around the grounds and catch people and such, that's what I love. Or being back at camp, or being able to run between McLotofUs and Safe Haven and to see my faire-best friend...it's too hard to pick one favorite thing!

Train wreck show is always my favorite event
Although, finally getting my boots was a pretty happy event too
Does walking with my Love through faire count as an event too? because that would be tops if so

*wandering about drinking rum is also a favorite event, but I always do that...*

I would have to say the Trainwreck is one of my favorites as well.  I also enjoy watching my son (Captain NoBeard) go bonkers on the bungees.

Taking my daughter shopping on Sunday morning and buying her a new skirt she desperately needed. Then going and visiting my friend Tom at The Rock Shop (booth just inside Sherwood where you can "mine" your own crystals), to buy her a pretty.  I got her a single point Amythyst crystal that has a single white stripe running diagonally through it.

Haha Blue! I'd have to say the little Hooka party was fun! Mmmm, pear tobacco! Made for interesting conversation teaching a few people how to put it together and get it going. Normally I'm the one going and visiting people, good thing about the hooka, it's not so portable once it's together so people come to me! We probably had quite a few people come check it out! I heard there's a hooka bar inside this year, but it has a huge line. I'm must thank my Lisa again for letting me set it up in her GP since she has a Franken-Medium and I only have a small. This weekend I think we'll try Plum!

As far as inside my finance, Brandon aka Bandit, and I were extremely lucky this weekend after being blessed with good karma for letting Blue bunk with us. First Sunday morning Bandit found $20 when getting out of the truck! Woot! Ground score! We went inside and dropped our stuff off at the Tortouga since I had about an hour to wander. We went and got a Monte Cristo and decided to go the long way by the front to go around to Kastle Kzar and see Blue.

One the way we stopped at Imaginarium Galleries, I usually stop and look but have never been able to afford a drabbit of my own, I've wanted one for years. We decided to take our chances and get a $5 egg and a $25 egg, since we had found money earlier. We we're guaranteed a statue in the 5 and a small pet in the other. We won our little black and green drabbit and then the shop egg cracker got everyones attention. We actually won a $150 drabbit out of the $5 egg! You don't get to choose the big prize but it happened to be a blue drabbit with the cutest little lizard like face! His name is now The Blue Baron, after Blue and my iguana, Baron, who can't get into faire to ride on my shoulder. We finally made our way to see Blue and she said we had been blessed with good karma. So we have now The Blue Baron and our little Karma!

My 4-year-old daughter, Jenna, was out with me Sunday afternoon. Watching her have fun was the best part of the weekend for me.

But her favourite things were:

Having both Treelady and Miss Susan paint her face
Getting on stage with "Mr. Richard" (Sound & Fury)
Dancing with Mommy during the pirates' Pub Sing
Running
The pony ride

Yup, she crashed in the car about 20 minutes into the ride home. She's already asking when she can go to "The Festable" again!

Your more than welcome Mousie, you can set that wonderful thing up in my tent anytime.

A couple funnies...

Worrying whether or not Blue was really an axe murder, and then finding out she's friends with Satyr, and redily vouching for her.

Little comments that came out when Valhalla got invaded...

And of course the dead guy, up to a point...

I had so much fun this weekend.

-Finding out I was tagged on Saturday.
-Having an impromptu photo shoot with Willow and Kim and Dana. It was lots of craziness and fun.
-Leading the chain mail in parade with shaggy and Blue in place of Lord Randolph.
-Going to Griffins Tower on Saturday night and seeing everyone at the party.
-The fact that the campgrounds have better security
-Spending time with everyone again and enjoying life at its fullest.

Ok, my all time favorite event so far this year (and maybe even ever!) was the Wine Tasting at 5:00 pm this past Saturday!!! OMG, it was SO MUCH FUN!!!  I have GOT to do that again!!!  I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard or that much for that long!  ;D ;D ;D  I highly recommend it, even if you don't like wine...that was just a bonus, for me anyway...the show was worth every penny and then some!!!

I saw the Washing Wenches(am I getting that name right?) show for the first time. Hilarious!(though I have yet to see a show at the Ren Fest I don't like). Buying my new costume was cool, and quite an experience. It took half of Pendragon's staff to help me get into it, and that was just me trying it on for size.  It was pretty cool getting acquainted with the store's staff (which I did real fast, haha) especially the one woman who assisted me in the dressing room. When you're in that kind of a situation, you make fast friends, lol.
Oh, btw, if you're looking for a place to buy a pretty frock, Pendragon is the place to go. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and the selection is amazing.
I also got a picture with King Henry VIII(yeah, the "official" one) and Jack Sparrow. :-*

So, not a bad Saturday. I can't wait until next weekend, which will be the "camp-out". And I'll get to go Saturday and Sunday. Score!

The Chain mail fashion Show was loads of fun as well this weekend. It was wonderful to have Lord Randolph back.

Favorite part of the weekend?  All day Sunday. Spending time with friends I see maybe twice a year window shopping.  Spending two hours at the wine shop drinking some yummy mead.  Sitting around enjoying shows.  Finally getting to see the fireworks! (and with a certain someone, no less)  :-)  Sunday was wonderful!

I had so many favorite moments, but if I had to choose just one, I must pick the moment when a special needs young adult woman spotted me and ran toward me clapping and laughing with her arms stretched wide to embrace me.  She was so overjoyed that I spent some time with her, and let her have a photo with me, (I gave her faerie bubbles, and from her I received a kiss on the cheek and another hug in return)

As she was led away, still laughing and clapping, looking over her shoulder back at me, I waved and smiled, but then had to turn my head and regain my composure, because The Ice Queen had a moment that appeared her eyes were melting...

It was truly spectacular for me that I made someone that happy. I hope she never forgets me, because I know I will never forget her. She touched my heart.

Meeting RedRhonda and Stumblin' John.

Met them in the parking lot as I was eating breakfast: None of us noticed the others' R/F pins, and we simply discussed the contents of flasks and mugs.

Met them at Moresca as Black Bonnie and I were getting me fitted for a pirate bodice:  Still didn't realize they were R/f'ers.

Met them at the $15 Shop: Nope, still didn't know.

FINALLY, met them at the Prince of Wales before the meet-n-greet and all got properly introduced, shared drinks and faire stories.

It was funny how we kept running into them all morning but never got the chance to find out who they were.  We had a nice visit, and it was great to get to know some more people from the forum in person.

I think my favorite time was back at the campgrounds.  We had gone up to the big drum circle and we were enjoying the fire show and we're headed back to our camp, in our truck, and my step-son was on the running board hoopin' and a hollerin' saying howdy and huzzah, when a couple of ladies yell out "can we get a ride????"  So my husband stops and all, including the step-son, pile into the bed of the truck.  We pass several camps and the cheering and woo hoos continue.  Someone from the back told us where their camp was....and that was when I realized the ladies we had picked up were fellow R/F'ers.  I will not divuldge their names or the location of their camp, but it was so cool when I told her who I was it was all crazy and we were hoopin' and hollerin' in a long lost friend kind of way.  We got to her camp and she jumped out of the truck and came around and gave me a big hug and we parted ways.  We offered a ride to a total stranger and it turned out to be a friend after all.

This past weekend my 3 year old neice came for half the day on Saturday.  It was just so much fun to take her around to my different friends and see how sweet they were to her.  Larry, the centaur, let her ride on his back and take pics (it was so adorable).  Then we took her over to the fairies on cast under the trees and she just sat and stared all wide eyed.  They gave her a bunch of little treats and were just so giving and nice to her, she loved it!  And we met up with our friend Eagle Wolf, the American indian Alan, and she just thought he was so neat and he took some cute pics with her too.  It was just great to have all these friends treat her so special and I know how much it meant to her!!

I usually try to see Tartanic at least once every time I go so on Roman weekend, my favorite part was being brought on stage in full Roman armor and having the drummer pin his mic to my loricated armor and playing a set using me as his percussion and the other Roman with me in maille as a wash board.  Its not every day you get to to have bagpipes and percussion surround you that close while playing, unless you are tartanic I guess.  I love their music so it was a lot of fun.

I must confess, that was me and my friend Heather that the lovely RenRobin found wandering the road, and I must say, we really, really needed a friendly ride back to our camp.  It was so funny when we realized who our rescuers were!  Should have known anyone so kind would be one of our forum family!!  Thanks again RenRobin!

:D I was walking from the PoW pub and rounding the corner by Ravenswood with Eloquent. Not two feet in front of me something fairly large falls from the tree right above our heads and hits the ground with a very large wet PLOP sound. Eloquent and I both look at this thing in front of us and from this ball that nearly matched the dirt on the ground unrolls a squirrel. It splays out its arms legs and tail and looks at us terrified and complete shocked and disoriented. After looking at us it bolts back up the trunk of the tree and disappears. As this is happening Eloquent is Laughing so hard she falls over on me as I sit there is disbelief saying WTF? as a squirrel almost dive bombed my HEAD!

Possible thoughts of the squirrel,
"OMFG! What the hell just happened?!"
"Ok now they are almost there ok, JUMP! Damn it, they saw me. I was so close to hitting her in the head"
"Man I need to stop stealing sips from unaware rennies at the PoW pup"

Eloquent and I were laughing about that all weekend!

My favorite things this weekend:

Saturday we walked the parade in front of the barbarians in our fairy garb and had a blast "playing" with them while they chased us the entire parade.  We also had an awesome time playing fairy baseball with tons of little kids and a bunch of our friends.

Sunday my favorite part was hanging with Princess Mary.  She's just the cutest thing ever and plays her character so well.  I met her at Scarby this year a few times and became aquaintances, but I think yesterday we became "friends".  She's lot of fun to play around with for sure!!  Another very funny part was during the parade, King Henry threw a flower at me which hit my crown and knocked it off...  Last time I wore my QE1 garb, he did the same thing, my friends and I finally came to the conclusion that we think it's purposeful since he's a very funny guys... lots of fun!  I think next time I go in QE1 garb, I'm going to duck when the flower comes at me and pick it up afterwards!  hehe...

The kamikaze squirrel of Highland Weekend 08' will forever be remembered to Element and me.  ;D

We were walking past the front of Ravenswood Leather whenever ten or so feet in front of us, we see a roundish furball literally drop from the sky and plop loudly onto the ground. That furball, unravels into a squirrel that only spins around to stare at us before shooting off towards safety. In resulted in both of us dying with laughter because neither one of us knew what the hell had just happened. Definitely definitely priceless. I wish I had had a video-camera.

This was my last weekend for the season, and I really had a wonderful time. Bunny hung out with me most of Saturday and part of Sunday. I stole Kyle's flask of scotch, and he was only mad at me for a nanosecond - then he thought it was funny. I got my last waltz of the season with Capt. Basil Drake of the Pride o' Bedlam - ye gods I love that man!

I danced to the Rogues during their "Antique Rogues Shows" with Kathleen (of Queen Anne's Lace), Dove & Missy from MacClugh, Klaus von Cleeves (aka my ex-beau Drew), Clint from the Transylvania Court, and one of the fairies (I forget her name). Some of the dances were train wrecks, most were nostalgic, and all of them were a blast!

Bryan, Randy, Lars and Jimmy together again.... Seeing those guys, hearing those two pipes together again, and seeing the look of pure joy on Bryan's face, was by far the most wonderful sight I've seen in ages.

And the icing on the cake was EJ sitting in for a tune at the Sunday 2:00 show. Pure bliss!!!

This was our last trip this season.  We had everything packed up from the campsite and were about to pull out when I heard a bagpipe being played around row 6.  Sure enough, I could see a guy playing.  I almost started crying like a wee babe!  It was very touching and sad  :'(  Oh well, the countdown's on for next year!

Same thing happened to me at the same place about 4 years ago. Used to be a hat shop with a courtyard there before Ravenswood moved in. Was trying on hats with the sales girl & Rocky the not-so-flying squirrel crashed to ground between us. Wonder if it was the same klutzo squirrel?

Well I enjoyed finally meeting more of you guys.   Lady Ann, Taffy Saltwater, Teach and Trinn, KiltedPrivateer and Melkar it was great saying hi to you guys.   I've never really been able to make it to the meet and greet and believe it or not, I'm sort of shy about just coming up to you guys and saying hi.  Lord Zenok helped me out with the intros (smoochies!) and you guys were so nice.

This is not really an event, but I did see a most interesting costume. While hanging around the Drench a Wench waiting for the last Cast in Bronze show to start on Sunday, I saw a boy about 10 or 11 wearing a centaur costume, identical to the Centaur who hangs around the arena. He was bare chested and could only take small steps, but you have to give him lots of credit for making it all the way to Sherwood Forest and braving the cold. His father followed him, (both parents were not in garb), holding the hind legs of his costume up so he could walk. I was going to snap a picture but did not think it appropriate to photograph a boy walking into the privy. As he went into the privy, I remember thinking two things: 1) Kudos to his father for having the patience to "walk" him around all day and 2) how the heck is he going to... well, you know!

Hahaha, no idea. Poor squirrel, most have gotten into the Loki. Too much Loki for him!
It was highly amusing and surprising. I think we scared all the mundanes and even a couple of playtrons around us because we were both laughing so hard and so loudly.

If you missed it, Queemn Margaret of Scotland and her jester demonstrated the little known Highland Fish Slap Fertility Dance.  Funniest freaking thing I've seen since the Queen's Players presented their "Romeugh and Uugliet (barbarian version of Romeo and Juliet) last year.  Pee in your pants hysterical.  I believe they will be performing it in thier area regularly (between Moresca and Pirates Cove), so if you get a chance to see it.....
