Ok, so for the previous 3 years I've been one of the Queen's Men Players - the group of 4 that was responsible for portraying and supporting the theme of the weekend. And for the last 2 years, on Pirate weekend we've been tagging and tracking the annual Sparrow migration, using numbered "tags" (clothespins marked with "QMP" and a number).
This year, I'm the Mistress of the Revels, and yesterday (Sunday, 2nd weekend) I was "tagged"! The tag said "Valhalla '08".
That is just full of awesome! Who did it, and good job!
Weird, I'm a Valhalla camper and we weren't out in full force this weekend. I never heard anything about Valhalla '08 tags...
It's just awesome to get pwned like that.
I've not heard anything about this tagging game by Valhalla, but I have heard lots about the rubber duckie game being played by participants.... what's the deal with that? I've never gotten the full story...
Oooh, they were nice tags too. Clothes pins with mosaic tiles and beads on them.
Funny, almost as owned as the, "Yea hath been Arnulfed." magnets. ;)

Awww! That's from last year. That Conquistador is Botch, who is now Christopher Columbus this year.
There's some of us (It started at chain maille) that have little rubber duckies. From what I gathered with the "rules"
You must wear your duckie where people can see it on your costume (and you can be creative).
If someone successfully takes your duckie and you wish it back, you have to perform a task that they ask for (e.g. buy them a beer) to get your duckie back.
Once that happens and you get your duck back, they are immune from you stealing their ducks (I think that's how they put it)
At camp, your tent is considered "Sanctuary". No one can go into your tent and steal your duckie.
Whoever has the most duckies at the end of the season gets a prize. One of the chain maille girls (I call her Blue since she wears that color the most) won't say what the prize is.
So far I've kept my duck....we'll see.
Hey duckie
So I also got tagged on Saturday afternoon playing QE1, right up on my huge whisk behind my head. I had no idea it was happening, but a friend of mine standing near me said she saw it happen and then didn't even let me know it was there for an hour. When I tried to put it elsewhere, she insisted I leave it there since that was part of the game... So if you saw me Sat, I had a laundry pin with jewels on it clipped to my neck wisk! Very cute indeed.
Could someone please explain the full rules of the "tagging" game?
Rules? I wouldn't think there are really any rules, unless of course you were the one doing the tagging and you had specific rules for yourself about how it was done...
I think from a "taggee" standpoint, the "rules" are simple. You either refuse the game and remove the tag, or you choose to honor it and leave the tag on.
Personally, I left it on because I got tagged fair and square. And it would hardly be good form to refuse someone else's tagging game when I had been a tagger myself, would it?
So it's more or less a favor? Not you got tagged so now you must tag? or tagged by a specific group so you are accepted as part of that group? Ok, seems simple enough.
Yeah, that's it exactly. It's kind of a stealth favor.
Not being a Valhalla tagger, I can't speak specifically to their intents, but I have to assume it's pretty much the same deal as our Sparrow Migration tagging. The point is to attach the favor to the recipient's clothing without their being aware that it is happening, in theory for them to find it later and have a moment of confusion and hopefully amusement wondering where it came from.
A little harmless messing with people's heads. I consider it a bit of a compliment, really.
Indeed! I would welcome it as a compliment as well. Can't wait to see if I get tagged this weekend. LOL
I've only heard of them "tagging" royalty and cast members, but do correct me if I"m wrong here.... Maybe they also tag personal friends, but the only people I've heard of are cast and royalty.
But I am royalty... Ice Queen Faerie... ;D
Oh dear, I did not realize my Queen... I would not meant to insinuate otherwise :-*
I was tagged before the Chainmail show before going out on stage to dance on Saturday! I found it later in the day on a scarf that I had on my tail. I know who tagged me (we are friends) only because she grabed me out at camp that night to see if I had found it and was SO thrilled at how I did too!
I was really honored by the tag, I kept it there all day and the rest of Sunday. One of my really pretty stones fell off during the day but I was informed I can get another one.
i was standing right next to my sis when she got tagged, but i didn't catch the tagger.... i was sad that i wasn't "cool" enuf to get one :( maybe another week?
yeah, taggin is so much fun!! i'm torn btwn actually giving people favors now and taggin people with them.... i do love being sneaky and playing games ;D
the only "tag" i ever got was 2 years ago at scraby - i felt it, and looked back to see, the guy just grinned. I was still confused as I had NO idea what to about a red clothespin. As I understand it, there are more 'tagging' a.k.a. assassination games at scarby - hence the need for teh royal guard. I could have this all wrong of course, but its just another one of those things to enjoy about all the little in games of renn faires!

We don't really have intentions, or maybe we do. Brigadoon tagged some people last year and our barbarian queen fell in love. Mousie, see Louise and get some tags.
We've just been having fun.... I may get you next...
I am the one who created the Valhalla Tags. They are simply a compliment. The rules of our tribe are to Tag the person unknowingly and they must be in garb. We get back to camp and brag about the people we Tag. Our goal next week-end is the Pope!!!! I make from 30 to 50 a week and hand them out to my tribe - you will see us with many tagged to ourselves as a way of carrying them around. Some people have offered to buy them, but they are not for sale! It is easiest to Tag when we are having our picture taken with targeted persons...like I did with the King Fairy and his sister!
So, you can imagine how excited I was when a friend of mine told me of the response on this site about the Tags! ENJOY!!! And maybe next week...you could be tagged by a memberof my tribe - VALHALLA!
We are thinking of having a prize each year for the person who collects the most Tags! Any suggestions?
Louise "Pooter"
hhhmmm prizes.... well tickets to faire is always a good thing ;D
or if the prize needs to be more economical... a faire item, such as a fan or some pretty baubles... so even if a man wins the prize he will score points with the lady he gives the gift to in turn and is twice the winner ;D
Well Louise...since your man makes me the best EVER bagels at camp...I feel as if I've already won a prize ;D
I am drawing a blank tho on a possible prize....lemme think some more.

Bonnie is quite the thinker... And I like the way she thinks (o:
A bottle of awesome Loki would certainly be a great prize in my mind!!
Aye! Tis only a fun game we Vikings play. I can personally say I tagged THE QUEEN on her way to her box at the 4:00p.m. jousting match opening weekend. Sorry lot of body gaurds that one has ;DAhahahahahaha ;D.
One other rule Pooter didn't mention is Men can only tag Women and vice-versa. I'm curious to see how many other clans will start this up how many different tags one could acquire.
I love the idea of tagging. I'm gonna have to get my friends to pick this up with me next year and get to tagging ourselves. It seems like something that'd especially be fun when in a fae persona.
Rules:
Louise told me there are only rules for the taggers... You can't let them know you are tagging them, and They have to be in garb... no garb no tag.... I hadn't heard about the opposite sex rule, so I blew that this weekend... I'll do better next weekend!
I was given four tags and was very proud of my tagees!
I gotses TAGGED!!!! Found the dem thing hiding in my faire hair!!!!
*tricky little viking*
I was tagged again! YAY! They got the same place as before so I think TK got me again, the little devil. :) but I love her and am so happy for her marriage to Chris.
Actually Element of Air, I did not realize TK had already gotten you, but apparently the whole thing is to get as many as you can. I introduced myself to you right before the wedding started... tagged ya, and took my seat to watch the ceremony... tehe...
I like to stalk my taggees after to make sure their friends don't tell them for a while :-) Fun! Fun!
I know the Bishop (is that what he's called??) who did the wedding ceremony for TK and Chris got tagged 3 times!! Let the good times roll!
No harm in saying who I tagged now. I got the short others brother, the guys that juggle. I got Element of Air. Blue. and another lady I don't really know, but she had a really pretty full petticoat on, and I saw her later she had moved her tag to the front and was proudly displaying it. Too much fun these tags are!

Now Sylor, where would the fun be if you limited me to only one gender?
But as my mother always taught me, you must first learn the rules so that you may properly break them.
I have never been tagged and look forward to my first. As far as I kow, no brother has ever been tagged, ladies, get to it.
I remember that!!! I passed it on to the other conquistador. He had it on his helmet for I think every weekend following that one!

HaHa! No one has tagged me yet! I doubt I stay still long enough! POOF!!!!<<<<
Wait a sec....what's this gender rule? I was tagging whoever I wanted last season...

Aye Mousie! But would you expect us to share all our lore and ways with a Squirette? Do to your ahem" condition " we have let you slide somewhat this season, but rest assured you will work hard enough to earn your Valkyrie wings and then you will be privy to more of the ways of The Hall of Odin.
Nay My Lady Bonnie.............we do the tagging inside. If you happen to venture through The Sea Devil, that is where I see a lot, but not nearly all, of the tagging taking place. I Love the magnet idea too. as true Barbarians, we will probably steal that idea

Brigaqueen,
He stated to me " I'm not the Pope, I am the Arch Bishop of Canterbury " If I could figure out how to post a picture on this thing, I have some good close ups of his tags. Ahahahahahahaha!
This sounds like a rather marvelous game. I would love to watch someone get tagged. I guess I am going to have to start paying better attention while out at faire.
