Title: What needle?
Post by: PrincessSara on October 20, 2008, 09:32:24 PM
I'm sewing a Halloween costume out of felt, fleece, and a knit fabric.  What type (ie. universal, ballpoint, etc) and what gage (ie. 11, 14) should I use for each fabric?

Thanks!

For the knit and the fleece, use a size 80 Jersey needle, unless your knit is very fine (size 60 or 70 Jersey) or a stretch Lycra fabric (use a Stretch or Super Stretch needle for that).

If the felt is very dense and/or thick, try a leather needle and a longer stitch length.  You might want to use a 90 if it's very thick.  If you are sewing the felt to one of the other fabrics, try to use the needle matched to the base fabric, but do experiment...

Sara, what are you making? (Because I'm curious, not because I can be helpful here! LOL)
