Title: Important TRF Campground News!!!
Post by: PapaGnome on October 24, 2008, 01:03:58 AM
Re-Post from Vampy...Due to the number of party campers mainly ravers
who cause issues in camp 24/7 but never attend fair they are
requiring everyone to show proof they are attending fair IE you must
have a ticket to get into camp or you will have purchase one for 21
bucks at the gate.

Please pass this on to everyone.

Thank you! It is good that I have my comp pass (Pink Ticket) then! :) I just hope this does not hurt the people who go to see friends only.

By "pass' are you referring to work/employee pass? They will NOT let you in with that! They do not want employees at drum circle, because it is believed that employees (particularly the ones who live on renfaire drive)  are the ones bringing the drugs to playtron camp.

Everyone, be sure if someone is drinking your booze that they are 21! Major crackdown starts this weekend.

Messyn is correct.  The Particpant Pass will NOT gain you free entry into the patron campgrounds through the camping entry gate.  If you go through that gate, you will be charged the camping fees.

Interesting.  What are the time periods to purchase tickets on Friday?  I'll be needing weekend passes when I go, but chances are I won't be able to get there until late Friday afternoon.....

You will be forced to purchase a ticket at the guard shack.

The front castle etrance doors and the gate (where you can drive between camps) are both closed and locked up as of right now! (I just got off the phone with a friend who is there.) They REALLY do NOT want employees going into playtrons.

Ugh.  I suppose I shall call them and see if I can purchase weekend passes at the guard shack then, see if they take credit cards or if they're cash only. (I've never done this before.)  *sigh*  That sucks about the employees being locked up. :(  Maybe this is temporary.... I imagine when the bad news runs off, they'll slack up a little bit.  Hopefully.

Yeah I know the suck factor will grow as these inconveniences go up but one I'll galdly bear until the ravers are run off completely. Since I know it's for our own good and that they're taking the extra steps to make sure our grounds are safer, I'm all for whatever they need to do.

I believe that Element was referring to a one of the pink Complimentary tickets that so many of us receive as perks of employment, not our white employee pass. And yes, she would still have to pay the $10.00 camping fee.

Yes Sir! And I am perfectly OK with paying the $10 to camp. I do so every weekend, always have. I however do not have a white employee pass. Just my pink Comp pass. (I up-dated my post to show that is was a pink ticket, because after reading everyones responses it seemed as though they thought I had a White Participants pass.)

Hmm, odd, couple of my group members told me they just said that their tickets were in their gear and packed away and they lettem in....

....Still not impressed

So far they only hurt the good guys and the bad guys can still lie their way thru without consequence... (mind you my friends DID have their ticket, they just didn't have to showem)

Not camping, but I'd like to stop by and say hello to friends.  I'll have TRF admission tickets, but won't be able to pay the $20 to get me and Tessa in if they require a camping fee just to visit for an hour or two.  Too many expenses now from storm damage.   :(  Guess it won't hurt to ask and see if they will let us go in since we don't look (too much) like ravers.

I just talked to the front office.  They said that the weekend passes ARE available at the guard gate.  I passed along my kudos for efforts at dealing with the riff-raff.  They appreciated the response.

Perhaps if you have garb on they will, then they know you intend to go into the faire or have come from the faire. I don't know if any of the ravers dress in garb other than maybe the whole EMO/GOTH thing.

Its great that they are attempting to remove the bad elements.  But as many know, the party children come in on saturday with the general traffic.  So we'll have to see what they do about that to see if they actually make a difference.

Last weekend some friends just came over to visit and had to leave their IDs at the gate with the officers, but hey they didn't have to pay the $20.

Well like I said in another post on this....I camp, have camped for more years than I can count, and yes, I have a pass b/c I do the show at Randolph's.

Most of the time I am able to go to faire every weekend is b/c I don't have to buy $40 worth of tickets a weekend.

I guess I'm going to have to call around, see what's up. I'd hate to be turned away at the campground tomorrow morning because I don't have a ticket to walk thru the front gate at TRF...when I don't go in that way.

I mean, it's obvious to most of the officers who the die hards are, and who the trouble makers, ravers, riff raff are. I don't want to be lumped into the wrong catagory. Good lord I must be the least troublesome person at camp for Pete's sake!

What many of workers that camp out front do is buy a discount ticket or score a comp ticket before season, show it to the guard each day, & then sell it the last weekend. The tickets aren't dated & the guards don't take them.

The $10 fee is per vehicle, not per person, & it is good all weekend.

So workers can still walk over there after hours to hang out with family right? I mean I am going to have my Hand fasting 2nd to last weekend out there, it would suck if I could not get out there for it.

Wahooo!  I for one am THRILLED to hear that something is being done...  There is no "perfect" solution (other than a true mind-reading potion which everyone would be required to take and then answer the question "What are your intentions regarding entry to the campgrounds?"....).  The fact that SOMETHING is being attempted does my heart good.  We camp with small children.  It's funny, but I don't worry about them INSIDE the faire -- I worry about their safety AT the CAMPSITE.  Camp is where I want to relax, kick back and just be with our fairemily.  I'll be much more ready to do that knowing that there is some active limiting happening at the gate.  Whatever the cost... yay!  Hubby will be purchasing our tickets on-line and printing them to have in hand as we approach the gates....

Aye, perhaps my tent won't get run over and trashed again this year...
It's getting rather expensive to buy, use, throw away and repurchase... I believe tents were intended for more then one use.

Ok, first hand account..

I personally witnessed the guards turn away a group of the worst sort of thugs. Teenagers, all in the back of this truck, bumpin their music and throwing their empty beer bottles into the trees WHILE WE WERE WAITING IN LINE TO GET TO THE GUARD SHACK!!!!! The officer turned them away RIGHT THERE!!! I was sooo incredibly excited! I know that all the lines to get into camp were because of the checks, but I personally don't mind. We had a fairly awesome weekend, and it started to feel like HOME again.

Best news I've heard so far this season.  We won't be camping again until Highland Fling, but I look forward to a raver lite camping experience.

I want to say that I was truly impressed by the efforts made this past weekend and the hassle involved was minimal I believe given the benefit.  I went on walk abouts both Friday and Saturday night and I marked a NOTICABLE difference in the music, in the lack of teenage drunkards about, and in the fire circle itself.   I went on Friday night, and it was great.  The drummers were also being very helpful in keeping stupid people from doing stupid stuff.  One drunk guy nearly jumped over the fire to come and kind of surprise a belly dancer girl and as soon as he did it, he was surrounded by drummers and forced out of the circle, yelled at and told to not come back.  I also saw tons of cops and security people actually AT the bonfire and checking ID's and making sure people were following rules.  We all felt tons safer!!

We also thought we'd test the theiving issue and left a half drunk bottle of loki out on the table when we went to bed Friday night. (my friends hated the flavor so didn't mind loosing it) Anyhow, it was still there Sat morn, so maybe the theiving is even getting better??

No one is perfect so it's inevitable that there will be kinks that will need to be sorted out and questions that need to be answered. We got in at right about 12 Friday night, and while sitting in line, watched them turn away around five or six different cars, all of which it looked like, were teenagers. The drum circle Friday seemed very very small, and then Saturday night, it was at its usual capacity but cops were constantly moving through the crowd. I'm very thankful for all the work the law enforcement officers are doing to keep us safe.

I had a few concerns about all the annoyances people talked about at camp, and I've been following this thread with interest. So comments like the above are making me feel a lot better about coming out.  See ya' on Highland weekend!

I can honestly say that camping was kinda boring this last weekend. I'm not complaining at all. I was just expecting some kind of drama. Which never happen. And I didn't have anything stolen.

Tanyor...at our camp this weekend was our friends bachelor/bachelorette party. I dont think there was any drama, but we had a good time. I guess you weren't able to make it to valhalla/Brigadoon for that  :(

I would'nt say things were boring...but it was quiet. A lot better than drunk people playing a screaming game of "marco polo" at 3 am or having to listen to rap music at all hours.

I fell asleep to  the nice sounds of people talking, laughing and good drum beats. I thought it was great!

I would agree the drums were good Saturday night for the time we were there.  I enjoyed joining in for awhile 'cuz Samedi didn't feel up to playing that night.  It seemed to be a much tamer crowd than opening weekend, as well.  We enjoyed it.

We came in on Friday about 11:30 in the morning and we did not get our regular spot...so we were over near the new road that crosses the draw.  Friday night was great on the tame side...but Saturday night the ravers set up in the gully or wash, ...whatever you want to call it (in our back yard so to speak) and started with the techno music, but wound up playing a variety of tunes including the Beatles and many others, it was not too loud, so we decided not to call in on them.  They had a parchute they strapped over pvc poles and started a fire under it and it billowed the chute and it looked like a giant mushroom.  My only complaint is they did not pick up their trash.

When we were breaking camp on Sunday there was some dude flying on God only knows what that was trying to pick a fight with anyone...guys ...girls.  Talked about having a gun and then moments later security came over and said they had dealings with this same guy the night before.  They talked to him, he simmered down a bit and as soon as they left, he fired back up again, this time got in his car and sped thru the campground and then then finally took him off to jail I assume, as you could hear them talking to him over the loud speaker, my hubby and brother were watching the show and were waiting for to see if they were going to taze him, did not see them do it.  Kudos to the security and law enforcement officers.  Thank you!

My poor pirate is still feeling the repurcussions of Sat night. He managed to hurt himself and we think if anything severly bruised or cracked a rib. He is trying to take it easy this week, so he won't be in too much pain this weekend. And being the tough pirate that he is, he doesn't want me or anyone else showing him attention because of it....men! LOL.....

Miss McCleavage....I am sure he and Graeme appreciate the thank you's for drumming. Those 2 aren't happy unless they get a good solid drum beat going lol.

I had expected things were going to be crazy at the pit Saturday night but was pleasantly surprised to find that was not quite the case. My daughters boyfriend wanted to check the area out and see if he would be able to do some poi spinning.
We headed down from our camp to check things out and found the main area around the fire was over crowded so he and another guy who was spinning a staff moved outside the circle and had a pretty good show going for about 45 min to about
an hour with no problems from the crowd. I did see security pull one guy out and was questioning him when we were heading
back to our camp.
Looks like things are beginning to get better at the pit area although it's still a far cry from what I remember the pit being 5 and 6 years ago.

We were there just as they started their fire show.  They did a great job.  I do have to commend everyone around the drum circle, at one time just before they started the fire show, people were crowding the drum circle and a few people took the bull by the horns and were asking everyone to step back and everyone did that I could see.  It was a good crowd and a good time.

I have this weird feeling that the guy RenRobin speaks of was in our campsite the night before. He came over and was cussing the lightbulbs in the coleman lamp and was just about ready to pick a fight with anyone who would listen to him. Said he was on 8 tabs that a friend had given him and more than just a little alcohol. We had him and the next morning some guy who fell into the fire and burned the hell out of his hand... he wandered drunkenly into our camp and was smoking 3 cigs at a time in his burned hand and spilling beer everywhere. It was my first year camping there and i enjoyed it... on friday night the techno near our campsite got a little loud and someone with the motorcycle and airhorns kept keeping me awake by revving/blowing them to get the fire circle folk to go insane. Like I said though a pretty good experience. I hope to audition for the Faire next year and hope that if I get a job that I would be able to go into the camp to hang out with my group though!

You know, we had a guy wander into out camp Sunday morning (10am or so) asking where the bonfire was.  He had 4 fingers wrapped up from burning them and (pretty sure) was under the infulence of a LOT of alcohol and probably high.  DS led him out to the street, since he was wanting to walk through camp to get to the bonfire, and he kept asking if we knew Leo.

"I'm looking for a guy named Leo.  Do you know Leo?"

There will always been people like this, but if we can keep them to a minimum, I'm happy.

And he stank to high heaven. Offended me delicate sensibilities, he did...

Oh yes that was him! he was asking for susanne though... we were wondering if the accent was real.  We were far from the bonfire so we just kinda told him to go "that" way. He circled around about 5 times before we didnt see him anymore!

Lmao..I always steer the mundane drunks towards the cess pool. They'll wander into camp and ask if we've seen "Brian" or "Nancy" I tell them "oh you just missed him/her! They went thataway!!" And I point. Works every time  :P

Playing with the pissers is a right good time. I usually point them off into the Dark Forest.

Ah - as I have posted in the other forum before it was replaced, I like the idea of at least one person having a ticket when entering the campground.

I also like the idea of the cattle ranch tape being disallowed.  First come First served is a bit of a joke - not to mention the ranchers don't provide for driving or walking to the open areas inside.  It is especially irritating when you can look on Saturday night the purpose of the tape wasn't to save spaces for people but to mark their territory.

The tarps ARE a good idea.

When I lived in TX I went to the Faire A LOT but I have to admit there were times when I thought about just taking a weekend break.  Luckily there are plenty of people who behave themselves.

I might have to start thinking about planning to get out there next year.
