Title: Pirate Coat pattern
Post by: Lady Toadflinger on November 09, 2008, 10:54:08 AM
Well, Faire season here in Northern California is over for a few months, and I'm looking for a new project!  I'd like to make my husband a Pirate coat with lapels. (not the Simplicity 4923, which has no lapels, and which I've made twice now.) I have the fabric and notions, now I need a pattern.  Can anybody help me with advice on a pattern? Gramercy!

I have the SIMPLICITY Jack Sparrow pattern as well as this one from JP Ryan that I use a lot.

This pattern can be tweaked to get a variety of looks. Designed for the Intermediate to advanced sewer.

My favorite justaucorps/frock/pirate coat pattern:  https://www.reconstructinghistory.com/rh703-1720s-frock-coat.php?s=&c=22&d=36&q=1&p=68&w=21

I'd suggest making it in a light to medium fabric w/"swish" for the beautiful skirting.

Ok, but everybody, she's looking for a pattern WITH LAPELS.  The historical patterns won't have them.

The JP Ryan pattern was originally designed after the ones seen in the film The Last of The Mohicans. A perfect Miliitary pattern as well for the look of the British with a front lapel that can be elongated. The cuffs on the coat can also be increased  a bit to get more of that piratey look. Most any pattern can be tweaked. The skirt is full also. This pattern has functional pockets.

This great coat has a collar, but to me is more highwayman - land pirate - than sea-going pirate:  https://www.reconstructinghistory.com/rh710-early-18thc-great-coat.php?s=&c=22&d=36&q=1&p=69&w=21

Hello All,

Might I also suggest Reconstructing History's Frock Coat?
