I noticed a new member with a link to a porn site in their profile signature and reported it to DB in case it's a new spammer, but I thought it might be worth mentioning it in case it represents a new influx of attempts to subvert the forum that real members might want to watch for considering some of the past history.
Thanks for the heads up! (so to speak)
Actually, now there are two obviously spam listings - one for porn, one for free software. Hope the shitheels haven't drawn a target on our home.
They're getting through faster than I can delete them.....but I"m working on it!
I changed the guidelines area to "read only". Guess we'll see if they try to post anywhere else.
DB, when I first signed on this morning it was showing me unread posts from June.
All hail DB! - gramercy, big chief!

Sheesh.
Thanks for your vigilance. Another Forum I read has had some attacks lately. Let's hope its not starting all over again.
A number of sites are reporting similar attacks. Somebody must be offering spamming bonuses again... ::)
Glad I'm not the only one to notice. I renmailed and then called John last night about several wacky posts.
It's so nice that our Ren family is patrolling the site and keeping our eyes open so that we don't have another big crash.
Funny, as one of the forums I run is also SMF powered and I started getting pounded with porn spam two days ago. Bumped up the Visual Verification complexity and no more spam. I had been using the lower complexity setting for a year with not a single problem, then suddenly got whacked about 20 times in one day! >:( Maybe someone's bot got better at deciphering the Visual Verification Message? Oh yeah... also upgraded to SMF 1.1.5 at the same time. Painless, thank goodness!!!
It's a little curious, a friend mentioned that her small business Email got hit with an unusually high volume of spam (2 or 3 hundred) on Monday morning
