Title: Arm slitted cloak
Post by: Hoowil on November 15, 2008, 12:37:17 AM
I'm making a cloak for a christmas present, and have been asked to put in arm/hand slits. I've seen it done, but have not made such myself, and do not have access to one to look at. I'm thinking it should be at least a 3/4, but ant input on fullness and application would be most welcome.

If you can make the back as a half-circle and it should drape over the shoulders perfectly (unless they have broad shoulders).  Add the front sections as 1/4 or 1/8 circles and the arm slit should fall right along the seam.

Have the wearer try it on and mark the seam above and below the elbows.  Open the seams and finish the slit.

My wife and I have made two this way.

Thanks for responding. I did find some information on-line on the placement of the holes, which was my main concern. The piece is for a child, who is out of town, so I'm having to guess on some of the lengths.

If you have to guess, you can make the slit longer and add a flap and button to close it up when not in use.
