My middle son, Robbie, 18, took a paintball in the eye yesterday.
the Dr is saying a "serious eye injury" and a "detached lens"
first surgery is today at 3:30
Prayers & good energy would be most welcome.
Light candles, shake bells, beat drums, raise a voice.....
whatever YOU do, please do some for him........
that's all for now.
Ouch! He will be in my prayers.
Yikes!!!
Lighting, Shaking, beating and raising!!!
Keep us posted....
Oh my goodness. I'll be lighting a candle for him. Best of luck!!
you got it!
I hope your son is doing better and recovering from this horrible injury. Lets hope he makes a full on, speedy recovery.
Any word on how he is doing?
Update:
1st surgery tuesday went as good as it could. mainly an exploratory. determined no deeper damage to ocular (eyeball itself) or surrounding tissue. one of his lenses, inside the eyeball, is partially detached and will need to be removed, but they want to wait for the eye to "calm down". appointment wednesday was a pressure check to make sure it's not getting worse. so far so good. has an appt friday to meet the new surgeon and schedule next surgery, which will proll'y be next week.... when they will remove the lens. then, again wait for eye to "calm down".... and then another surgery to put in an artificial lens.... which will hopefully give him sight back in that eye.... but there are no guarantees. currently he can see only light, shadow & vague shape from that eye. legally blind in the right eye.
Keep the magic coming, all you can spare.
Thanks to all!
Wow, that's pretty scary. At least it is not getting worse though. All my best!
Positive, warm magic going your way!!
Keeping your son in my prayers.
My husband is a avid paintball player, although he does not play as much as he use to when we lived in Califonia. He always wears a protective face mask and sheild to protect his face and eyes, and arm and knee pads but even then you have to be careful, especially if someone has their gun set at a faster speed then they should have it at. Those paintballs can really fly at a fast speed and they hurt when you get hit by them. My husband has received some good bruises and welts from getting hit by someone who did not have their speed properly adjusted on their gun.
Hope everything turns out okay for your son. Keep us posted .
You and your son are in my thoughts! Sending healing vibes his way too!
Ya'll remain in my prayers.
warm thoughts!
My Dad had new lens' put in his eyes years ago because his catarax were so bad. He was amazed!!
Thanks for keeping us posted. There is nothing worse than to hear about children who have been hurt...
Still banging and shaking!!
I'm lighting a candle every time I'm at my desk, with Robbie in mind! (Shh, don't tell anyone, I'm not actually supposed to burn candles in my apartment...too bad! :D)
This is scary news! We will send you all our love and hope for the best! Yes, please do continue to keep us up to date.
Let us know if you need anything!
Take care!!
All prayers and healing energy for your son! I will be keeping him and your family in my thoughts during this difficult time!
good thoughts coming your way --
My wife had new lenses put in when she had cataract surgery -- her eyes were better than ever after the procedure. I hoping things go well for your son.
...Hoping all is well...
Thoughts of strength and healing to your family
Update: Robbie is having surgery today to remove the lens in his right eye. Rich/Adam is with him. As soon as we have more news one of us will post. Thanks to everyone for their kind thoughts, words, and magic. Robbie truly appreicates all of you and your support and Rich and I do too.
I hope he does well.
Thinking of him and sending positive thoughts.
Here's all the magic I have at my disposal at the moment, and I will be sending more every day, as well as prayers and well wishes! Robbie is in my thoughts...
Well Robbie did not have the lens removed yesterday. He saw a different doctor who specialize in eye surgery from the back of the eye. Rich/Adam says that Robbie's doctors have decided that is the best way to proceed as going in from the front of the eye could lead to more damage due to the fact the lens has become connected iris. So now the surgery is on Wednesday 12/17/08. Thanks again to everyone for your kind thoughts. We will keep you posted.
Continuing to send along some positive energy! Best of luck!
I'm continuing to keep your family in my thoughts.
{hugs}
Robbies next surgery to take out the damaged lens (now called a cataract) is wednesday the 17th.
Please ramp up the good thoughts and wishes for that day. The doc says that if there is no retinal damage that feel they have an excellent chance of restoring his sight in that eye. They will not, however, know if there is any damage until the "get in there".
Please, keep those candles burnin, fingers crosses and prayers being said.
Sending much magic and healing energy, now, and through the coming week!!!
Bugging God on your behalves like always... The doctor's skill, your son's courage, and his parents' love.
I'll be lighting candles for your family and Robbie.
The Update: Sorry it's taken so long to get this out, been kinda Holiday Hectic.
Robbies' surgery on the 17th went as well as it could. The doc removed the damaged lens/cateract and pronounced that his retna looked completely undamaged. He said that he "sees no reason that they should not be able to restore more or less normal sight in that eye." HAPPY DANCE! The downside is that the muscles that contract the iris (pupil) are shot. His pupil is stuck at the size it now is (about ¾ open) will no longer be light reactive and he'll have some light sensitivity on that side. All things considered, a pretty positive outlook. The Doc says that he has removed many eyes due to just that type of injury. Paula is calling it a miracle. I'm inclined to agree.
We are not out of the woods yet. There will be rechecks, and another surgery in about a month to replace the lens that was removed, more rechecks and therapy.
PLEASE, keep those candles burning, bells ringing, good energy and prayers flowing. In my opinion, it has clearly made a difference.
Thank all of you for your support! It means more that you can know. Keep it coming, and we'll keep you updated.
I am so happy to hear your good news!!! Keeping those prayers winging your sons way, and sending every bit of healing energy that I have!!! Hoping you're Holiday Miracles continue to flow with grace and all good news!

Glad he is doing better. I'll keep the positive thoughts going.
Yikes! I know when I broken my cheek I was less than an inch from taking my eye out so I can only imagine what Robbie's going through. I'm glad things are looking so promising for him!
Adding my healing energies and prayers to the mix... <3

It's all on it's way... every bit, and as much more as I can muster from local sources!!!
(((Robbie)))
I've only just seen this now
all my thoughts and positive energies are with Robbie.
I'll be thinking good thoughts, sending healing energy and offering up prayers for Robby. {hugs}
Candles lit, and will remain so!!
Prayers for a steady hand, and quick healing for Robbie!
I'll be thinking about him!
Just wanted to bring this to the top again .... ;)
Well, the best possible outcome was that Robbie would open that eye tuesday morning, and see almost normally. that is not what happened.
He says it is definitely "better" and Dr's initial test confirm that. although we had hoped for an quick return of clear vision, there is still alot of swelling, and "junk" floating in the ocular orb. he's got another recheck next week with hopes of continued improvement. The doc said that yes, we had hope things would be better then they are, but a quick return of site is not always the case, and there is not necessarily a reason to be alarmed. There was talk of a possible contact lens for that eye, an outside chance of another surgery, etc.
so we're back to.... don't know anything for sure yet.
so, we're not out of the woods yet. There is more to be done. Please keep those fingers crossed, candles burning, and good thoughts coming.
More info as it develops.
Thank you all, for all you've done.
We'll keep up the positive thoughts! Thanks for the update. Hang in there Robbie!!
I'll definitely continue thinking about him! Hoping for the best!
Will certainly keep sending positive thoughts and healing prayers.
Keeping positive thoughts flowing. If there is anything any of us can do besides that let us know and we shall do as much as we can.
OK, sorry for the dealy. been a bit busy. ;-)
and the latest is..... Much better.
At his last Dr. visit on Monday, Robbie was pronounced with 20/60 vision... which is a far cry from the 20/400 that he had 2 weeks ago.
The doc says that we should see a "bit" more improvement with healing, but that is going to be about as good as it gets. Which is still within a range that can be corrected with eye glasses (Rob says he wants a monocle so he can look like the Monopoly guy). He says has good depth perception for driving, and can see "mostly". That eye is just kinda blurry.
Now, considering that 90% of people with this kind of injury end up with a glass eye, we're all pretty happy with the outcome. Not perfect, but something we can all live with.
I, and Robbie, thank all of you for your wishes, prayers and good thoughts. It's pretty remarkable the support network that opened up for him..... and considering again that 90% of people with this kind of injury end up with a glass eye..... I believe that it made a difference.
You all have my deepest thanks.
Cheers!
Oh yay!
And I second the idea of a monocle. It'd be awesome!
I'm so glad that he recovered.
Good news indeed! =)
Yay!!!! I'm so glad!!!
A miracle I say! Huzzah!
Oh, how wonderful!!! I'll say a prayer of thanksgiving! Enjoy your miracle... :)
Huzzah indeed. That is wonderful news. Is there any chance the bad vision could be corrected with a contact lens so it isn't quite as blurry? Either way, a great outcome considering the odds.
Huzzah!! This is wonderful news to read!! He can be the mysterious monocle man!!! .
