O.k. my garb is fine thankfully i just need shoes and new dagger that will be delt with in January. My newest delima on garb is trying to Garb my friend who i have convinced needs to go on the weekend and see the r show of the tortuga twins(he's a teacher and has been on student days) My friend is always a great sport and if he were a she i could dress him and have a great outfit for him but being that he's a he i have no clue where to start i don't know if renting would be easier. I want something basic so he can add to it if he wants. I've dared him to walk around all day using his best british accent so now i need to find him cloths any suggestions on anything not too expensive
Suggestions on knife and shoes:
Salamander Armory at www.atar.com are high end the prices reflect this. However, they are the best.
Birkenstock London's are rather funky looking but pass RPFS Costume Dept. They are very comfortable and if walking at your site can lead to stone bruises, this should prevent that.
As far as garb for your friend. What does he want? How warm will it be? Peasant or middle class or noble? What is the budget? If you're interested in middle class or noble, you'll probably want to rent. If peasant, you can probably start assembling a costume.
Although my wife made my middle class garb, my peasant/lower middle class jerkin is from Tickle thy Fantasy at http://www.ticklethyfantasy.net/.
I'd have recommended The Dye Spot which was the source of shirt, trousers, and cap, but I'm pretty sure Dianne is no longer in business.
Also, there's no reason to start with a complete costume unless you're an actual participant. If you're paying at the gate, you can let your costume evolve by just getting parts of it.
You might also check your local thrift stores. Items for costumes have been found at Salvation Army stores.
I'd suggest basic dark pants (something already in his closet or scrubs or pj's) with the basic peasant/pirate/poet shirt easily obtainable through ebay to get your friend started.
thanks for the ideas i think i should be able to get him started from your suggestions
