Aeron and I had a very hairy ride from his doctor's office this evening.  Several people lost it on my street, but we got through safely.  They didn't expect anything to stick, so it was slick as the dickens.

One of my favorite Loreena McKennitt songs, it gives me chills.  Not just because of snow.  Just because of it's sheer majesty and her performance of it.

Snow
as performed by Loreena McKennitt
Lyrics by Archibald Lampman

White are the far-off plains, and white
The fading forests grow;
the wind dies out along the height,
And denser still the snow,
A gathering weight on roof and tree,
Falls down scarce audibly.

The road before me smooths and fills
Apace, and all about
The fences dwindle, and the hills
Are blotted slowly out;
The naked trees loom spectrally
Into the dim white sky.

The meadows and far-sheeted streams
Lie still without a sound;
Like some soft minister of dreams

The snow-fall hoods me round;
In wood and water, earth and air,
A silence everywhere.

Save when at lonely intervals
Some farmer's sleigh, urged on,
With rustling runners and sharp bells,
Swings by me and is gone;
Or from the empty waste I hear
A sound remote and clear;

The barking of a dog, or call
To cattle, sharply pealed,
Borne echoing from some wayside stall
Or barnyard far afield;

then all is silent and the snow falls
Settling soft and slow
The evening deepens and the grey
Folds closer earth and sky
The world seems shrouded, far away.

Its noises sleep, and I as secret as
Yon buried stream plod dumbly on and dream.

So how's the weather down there lately? We went from one of the snowiest Novembers on record to a not-very-snowy December that started out freezing cold and has been mild this last week. Except for the storm that's going to dump freezing rain on us overnight tonight, but that's the crazy Ohio weather for ya!  :)

Did anyone see the snow in Las Vegas? I was suprised when it snowed in Nashville, but VEGAS??  :o

The weather today is fogggggggggy. Tomorrow is to be raining. Saturday is 62 for a high. Sunday is a high of 35 and a low of 16.

No, there is no typo in the above statements. REALLY!

I'm just hoping we'll get a little bit of cold weather for Christmas.
I would love to be able to light a fire, haven't been able to...

Loreena McKennitt

She rocks, I've got a bunch of her albums. My favorite is The Mask and Mirror. She is one of those I wish I could see in concert. But every time I heard she was playing it was always to late.

Hey, you need to live here. Well, it has been snowing all day yet in some form. From the bulk that ended around 1:00 this after noon Friday at the lake by me we ended up with 13.2 inches. The rest of the evening so far it is real lite fine stuff by the lake only so probably another inch or two before this evening. Now, we look ahead to Saturday when another storm comes through and is to dump an additional 5 or 6 inches in general. Fun fun fun... They even closed the company this morning and so my partner and I from the night shift ended up staying until 9 in the morning puting in 15 hours until a day person could come in. In data processing we are the only ones that work 24/7. I hope everyone is safe and keeping warm inside.

I'm really excited. My mom called tonight and told me that they got 10" of the glorious white stuff  :D . I can't wait to get back there and enjoy a white Christmas with them.

As for the whole country suffering from crazy weather... do you remember the margarine commercial that said "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature."? Well... she's not very happy with us so she's "punishing" some of us.

I finally got to see her live here in Nashville two years ago.  It was absolutely exquisite, somewhere I have a review of the show, it was on the old site's archives.  You can get a DVD now of a show she did at The Alhambra last year, highly recommended and her present Christmas CD is gorgeous.  Her band was perfection incarnate!  The Mask and The Mirror is also my favorite, I love how she blended all of the Middle Eastern modes into the generally Celtic feel and threw in some electricity.

It was like some sort of dream to see the sunshine yesterday afternoon!  The boomerang weather isn't helping my cold any!
