Title: Fake Hair
Post by: renniegirl85 on January 04, 2009, 09:01:27 PM
I was reading back in the posts and ran across one in which a girl was looking for hair to add to her own. I have been wearing "spare hair" for a while now and if you want something that's super easy and looks awesome, check these out...

http://store.goldenmartbeautysupply.com/drawstrings.html

Drawstring ponytails! Truly a girl's best friend! I must have at least 20 different ones. They come in curly, wavy, straight, short, medium, long, and super-long (I have one that is to my rear) and they average $10 to $12. I get mine at the local beauty supply stores. Just look in your yellow pages. The particular beauty stores here tend to cater mostly to African-American women, but the hair used in the pony tails is very soft and more like caucasian (sp?) hair...especially the wavy and straight ones. They're fabulous and look great. I always get tons of compliments when I wear one.  ;D

Ooh!  I think that was me!

Can you tell me, though--how do they work?  Does it just wrap around your existing ponytail?  I saw a lot that were promising, but couldn't tell how they'd go on.

Thanks!!

Yep! They're super easy. The hair is sewn to a small cap, like a wig cap, with a comb at the top and bottom. You put your own hair in a bun, position the ponytail over it with the combs on top and bottom, push them into your own hair, tighten the drawstring and you're done! They take about 20 seconds to put in and they're totally secure. I wore one of my long ones all day today. :)  Hope that makes sense..:)

I used to wear a clip-on ponytail because my freshman year I got a bad haircut, and my hair is the kind that is curlier the shorter it is so during the mandatory semester of swimming instead of gym, it looked so bad.  I'm sometimes tempted to cut my hair, but it's easier to deal with when it's waist length contrary to popular belief.

I want to try hair falls.  Similar concept as those except as pigtails.  People wear them to clubs and such.

Mine, too!  I got a bad bob a few years ago, and it sproinged up all over until I looked like Little Orphan Annie.  I saw a friend the next day, and she said, "Oh, you got a perm!"  And I was like, "Who gets perms anymore?  No, this is real."  Sigh.  I need *weight* to my hair for it to look right.

Trimming my hair every month helps a whole lot for some reason.

"sproinged"    LOL   Gem, I knew exactly what you meant as soon as I read that word.  Thanks for the giggle.

I've had three so far from Paula Young. So far, everyone has thought they were real. I got a head band wig for Christmas that was on sale. I wore it last Saturday and got alot of compliments about how pretty my hair was. I wore a scarf around the head band bit of it. I like it because it stays on so well, doesn't slip and it breathes well for a wig. That's because it's not little bitty netting like heavier wigs.
You can usually get a good deal there when they have a sale. I haven't had any problems with them.
A couple of years ago I wore a clip on pony tail that was curly and wore my pretty pirate scarf over. People who hadn't seen me in awhile thought I had grown my hair out and liked it. If they really knew me, they'd know I always have pixie hair. *ha*

I like my clip in ponytail. Like clover, a lot of people think I had grown my hair out. I also have one of those "Bandit" hair pieces. I think I may try the scarf over it to hide the weird headband bump. :) I like wearing my spare hair when it's too hot to go full wig. :)

The curly hair I have on in my profile is a banana clip by Mona Lisa titled Bonnie. I love it and it was very cool, cooler than my own long har as it didn't seem to rest on the back of my neck as much as well as it was off my shoulders. Sadly I went back to my true hair color New Years day and can't wear the red unless I want to color my hair red again, which I don't want to do. So I went to international Wigs and orderd one that matches my current/natural hair color. I have a pull tie one ordered as well for my victorian look I like to have when wearing my Victorian dresses.

Gem's 'sproing' is just what my hair does, and it's bra-strap length.  I try not to get it too much longer as it's too much to deal with when I swim 3 times a week, but it really IS easyer to look after and keep out of the way when long.

I don't have bad hair day.  I lead a Bad Hair Life.  'Hair bt Hagrid' - that's me!  ::)

I hate my post-chemo hair.  It's nappy frizzy, holds color weird, and is only minimally better than bald.  And the only thing on me that's getting thin on me is the hair at the temples.  I'm a beard away from Hagrid.
