~The space near the new pub next to the joust
(Catch it just after a joust, just before. You'll be near the Irish and Rose show.)
~ Holly Field
(Mind, there are weddings, Rat Pucking, Dancing and all sorts of things going on, so this might not be a good spot)
~Near the Maypole
(again, you have to time it right due too activites, Maypole itself *Kids under 13 en-masse* Court Dancing and Scottish Court)
~Pecan Grove near the Sea Hag Stage
(Drawback is there is a playground there, lotsa short ones running around)
~Near the FOF both over by the Chess board
(Cast in Bronze, Dr. Kaboom, and the Chess Match would be your only competitors)
Hope this helps, some spaces are no more due too games being added in some spots and new stuff coming in.

Helps a great deal, thanks Lil! :-* If you're ever passing by though, make sure to say hi!
Does the winner get to keep her seat? ;)
Count me in either way, sounds like fun!

Oh, you bet your bustle I'll come say hi, ;) See you out there.
I hope to be there on opening weekend if all works out maybe closing also ,if I am there Elo, my knee is yours!!
I Nearly won Musical Men in Tenn! Fun game!
I hope to be there- if my rides to Scarby pan out!
Alright alright, I'll play along...
Do I, as a seat, get to keep the....what would she be called? The sitter, I suppose? It might be awkward kneeling to one knee though, with one knee up possibly......exposing things..... :o
I suppose that if your skirts are gaping, we'll just have to fluff ours up ;D
This is from Wikipedia's description of musical chairs: "The player who is left without a chair is eliminated from the game, and one chair is also removed to ensure that there will always be one fewer chair than there are players. The music resumes and the cycle repeats until there is only one player left in the game, who is the winner."
In case of Musical Men, I presume that one woman and one man are removed on each cycle. (How is the man chosen?) It is interesting that the winner is the one who sits on the most "chairs" during the game. It is also interesting that in the end the *winner* is the one left without a "chair" to trouble her.
I'm in the process of finding out, but the end result of the game has a twist to it so, you'll just have to wait until the game starts while you're playing to find everything out. ;) Can't give you all the answers now, a) I wouldn't be a wench-in-training if I did, and b) whats the fun of it?
This is how the game is played in our Realm. As I do believe our Queen created the game these are also the official rules.
All the men kneel about in a circle on one knee with one knee as the "seat" for the ladies. There should be one less man than lady. The ladies form a circle around them and as the music begins they move around in a circle until the music stops. They then sit on the nearest knee that is provided as a seat and hold tight lest another lady try to unseat them. The lady left standing is considered the winner for she gets to chose any of the lads to spirit away and sit out the rest of the game with while the others continue. The final "dance" leaves one man and two ladies vieing for his knee. Last woman left standing is without a man . :(
Fair play means do not throw yourself so hard at a man that you break anything, or toss yourself onto the pile in order to disrupt the game completly. You may of course gently)( or perhaps not so gently) nudge or bump a lady from the knee she has claimed up until the leader of the game announces that round is completed. Friendly competition is encourage.
I understand the game does have variations depending on the type of group involved. It's alot of fun and good for some real laughs when the competition gets going. :)
To stand in and point something out:
Not to be a stick in the mud, but, remember: our faire is rated PG-13
And if there are short ones running around, keep the bawdy above their level.
Or, some mom will complain and it might spoil the whole shindig.
It sounds like a fun game and I bet there will many willing to play, just keep it reasonable.
*Ducking behind EloquentXI to avoid slings and arrows*
Aye, we will be keeping the game clean, because of the standards set by the mgmt. This seems like a type of game though that it is just an incredible amount of fun without being something belonging in Johns Inn.
Though, just a little bit of wench-mouth never hurt anyone. Just keep it below the wee ones hearing range should any be close.
*pat pat Lil* Don't worry, there is death should anyone fling mud at me so you're safe. I'm protected by the Clan rules, cause I'm da baby! Ya gotta love me! :D
Trust me, this can be done at a PG-13 level. Musical Men at BARF is part of the Queen's Tea, run by our very own Madge Estes who is also a member of BARF's management. A little innuendo but nothing overt ever needs to be observed.
Played in other places and conditions, it can also be very overt. It's fun either way and just a hoot to see the competitiveness come out.
A word of warning to both the Ladies and the Gents. The ground gets slippery and, with fast movements, spills and tumbles can occur. Take care of yourselves and only play if you are in relatively good physical condition. I don't recommend the game for people with back problems, Gents with knee issues, or those with garments that can lead to exposure. Non-regimental and bloomers are recommended.
as long as it's not duroing the death march or the invasion on the british, i'm in

What do you mean?
If I am there on a weekend this is played, count on my knee. I'll promise to use one hand to maintain my kilted modesty even. ;) Just means the lady must hold me tighter to keep her seat as I will only have the single remaining arm to steady and comfort her.
Looks like closing weekend for me... and if there will be a game that weekend I would love to take part in my first game of Musical Men!!! After seeing the pics it definitely looks like far too much fun to pass up!
I will be there opening weekend. If there is a game going on I'd love to join in! Does any one have pics? This is something I have to see.
I'm in! As Grov said, I'll have to keep one hand free to keep from offending anyone. But hey keeping the lass' arms tighter on ya is more fun anyway!!! Rani, you're MINE! I'll even try to rig it so you land my way if you like.... ;)
Wait a minute... I'm being claimed?!? I wasn't aware that was a game option!?! LOL Somehow I just have to question the ability to rig Musical Men, also... (snerk)
You can bet that if yours is one of the final knees available, though, that I will definitely fight for it! I play to win! ;D
It's all good, m'lady. Couldn't pass that up! I'll see you all there...likely the final weekends after Four Winds' closing cannon.
It's never a bad thing to know one is... wanted... MacLaren, and I will definitely endeavor to find perch upon your knee at some point during the game, my dear, whether it is first, last or somewhere in between! I hear the game can get a bit... boisterous... though, so I will have to hold very tight to ensure the other ladies fighting for that seat are unable to dislodge me! Hope you're up to the challenge... LOL
Oh please let there be a game on closing weekend!!! So many willing knees, so very little time to enjoy them all... (and so many clad in kilts!!!) ;D
Well, I do request that all men that wish to play Musical Men have the proper garments on so that you do not improperly reveal yourself. You have to remember that being that management has no issue with it, it will be by their good graces that we have the ability to play this game so no offending the children by having them see what a Scot really wears under their kilts...as humorous as it may be.
I got the permission from Madge Estes, the creator of the game so it's an all go! I want to say that tentatively we'll play a game Opening Saturday...and then Closing Weekend maybe once or twice that weekend depending on which days I'll be there and the amount of support we get.
Oh yay!!! I should be there all three days, so I'll make sure I find out where and when!
Thanks, Elo, you rock!!!
And perhaps the kilted lads could be forgiven for not being entirely regimental if it's just during the game?!?
Ok...I am going to make a tentative list of eligible men and women who are up for playing Opening Weekend as it's approaching much quicker than I realized.
With everything that has been going on in life, including the very sudden event of my surgery, I'm going to come and say it, I need some help organizing this game if people still want to play. I still need to find an open area at a good time for everyone to play that won't interfere with any acts in the vicinity, find a musician or a provider of a magical box to play music during the game.
I can come up with an extra kilt pin, so count me in for opening weekend.
Remember regulation require a man to not be regimental for dance and game. Good thing that since the last two season a certain scotsman throw off his kilt during the games. This sounds like a bit of both so gentlescots remember the regulations.
To date it appears that the M's Have it!!
MEN:
Martin Montgomery
MacLaren
MacIntyre

Thank ye kindly good sir.
Same goes for our fine ladies or even wenches that have the desire to play, we ask you have on bloomers or the proper undergarment because it is not unheard of for women to go toppling when trying to battle for the desired man.
Since I am going to be there Opening weekend and have experience from last year at the Renndevous- sign me up to participate.
We need a when and a where. I am sure we can find a willing musician to play.
I do NOT wear bloomers- but will be decent! LOL!
You have only three gents so far nd one might be D-Q'ed due to going regimental. I will gladly play musical men
I'm going to have to check out the areas at the FoF event because I'm still not sure about where we could do this without much issue.
11 by the Maypole could maybe happen, couldn't it? There is plenty of flat area there...
I'd really like to see this game happen but if not enough people are interested in playing within the next two weeks or so, I'm not going to go through with the rest of the planning to get a muscian or find more people. I have no problem organizing this or stamping out the details on the Meet n' Greet, I just need some more feed back! :D
I have a feeling some people will walk up on this and will want to join which will make for plenty of fun. I just need enough people to start and play a round or two then they can trade out. I don't now how many games we'll play but again that all depends on the support.
11 by the Maypole will be great!
Plus, the only stage in that area is the Sea Hag Stage. Just be mindful if there is a stage act at that time.
[I would not reccommend playing if the ground is slicker than a used car salesman, though.
That area is notorious for taking the legs out from under you if it is muddy.]
I wish ya'll the best of fun and I look forward to many pictures!
The game can indeed get a little boisterous, but remember it is a game of flirtation, and although there is contact, it is not a contact sport. It was created for the court, and as such is done with playful dignity, not as a wrestling match or a brawl in a pub.

Ha you've not attented our Scottish Court much have you. A wrestling match or a pub brawl is tame compared to what our Lairds get up to. Its the reason the Scottish Court is the most fun.
What are the chances of this happening during the weekend of April 18th & 19th? I will be there with my faire virgin sister, and 2 friends. My one goal that weekend is to make my sister stay a constant shade of red. And a game like this- played decently of course *grins mischeviously* would definately make her blush.
Of course I might explain the rules to her a little differently: "Grab a knee and hold on for the ride!"

Yes it is brother.
That may be so, sir, but this is my game, and played by my rules. Permission was granted to use it at your fair; I would appreciate it if you all keep to the manner in which it was granted.

I think that's when the Drill Sargent in me came out and the order was given, "Ladies, your butts belong on the gentleman's raised knee"
Fear not Good Queen Madge! I shall be there to make sure the proper decorum is maintained! Playful dignity- or I get out my wand!!!
Ooh, the wand!
Uh, no, no NOT the wand!
Yeah, that's what I meant.
Indeed! Beware the wand! But the Staff is much worse! *Insert evil laugh!*
Decorum will be maintained.
( Er- no one here saw how I played at Tenn RF last year? I almost won!! Just a twitch of the hip will do nicely!! But I was polite and calm and playful! The knees were so nice! LOL!)
Ooh this sounds like fun! I'll bet I can get a few of the McLotofus wenchies and men to participate! Count me in for opening weekend, and I'll try and draft Spikey to participate as well 8)
Someone please kidnap me if you see me pass by and drag me to this! lol! ;) I am seriously bad at keeping time (and keeping a full flask...blast those faires) ;)...ESPECIALLY at Faire! ;)
You will be there. Believe me you won't have an option on this one..... :o

Z...You Rock! :-*
Still looking for a musician. Doesn't need to be anything extravagant, just someone that can play a good tune or two!
if he's not busy, maybe chris b can lend his talents...

According to the schedule, Wine and Alchemy plays at 10:30 so I don't want to inconvenience him and make him rush over to play. He'll be busy enough as it is. :-*
According to a friend of mine. She'll be out in the streets.
She is called 'Season's Melody', cannot miss her, she carries a guitar.
I'll look for a picture, but! I can let her know you are looking for music to assist with the game.
Try Scott Boswell at the Flute Cart! If he is not busy- I bet he will play for us!
I played this once a long while back at a combo bachelor/bachelorette party (long story). Honestly, I didn't like it much, but that could be because the main object of the game involves pushing and shoving (however gentle).
Still, I think it'll be great fun to watch YOU play it... :)

Pushing and shoving, aye? Well heck, knowing me and how I am at faire, I'll not need pushing or shoving to fall off. Clumsiness + Rum/and or Mead = *falls on face* :D
But yes, I can imagine it will be greatly entertaining to watch us all! I'm hoping that the pushing and shoving is at a minimum; i'm not much for falling more than I already do (which is a lot..lol)!
Aye, the purpose of the game is not pushing and shoving so unnecessary roughness will not be permitted. Though if I am able to play a game, I wont need any rum or Loki to be my same old clumsy self. ;)
If I play- no pushing or shoving! It must be gentle! I don't want to break anything I might need later! LOL!
How did the game go?
Was it a success enough that it can be repeated other weekends?
It seems that some people knew the place. Some people knew the time. Only one person knew both, so it didn't happen this time. We'll try again in the future.
I'm at fault here. The last thing I thought of doing over the past few days was updating the correct info for everyone before Opening Cannon. I'll make sure everything is cemented should we try again. Again, sorry ya'll.
Nothing to apoligize for. It was a learning opportunity, you are a student aren't you? When herding cats keep the instructions simple and very clear.
I'm up for guinea pigging it on April 18 :)
