Title: Manwariel's Poetry
Post by: Manwariel on January 22, 2009, 07:32:49 PM
Here are two of my poems. You can read more on http://manwalinwe.wordpress.com

Darkness

Drowning in the darkness,
this tunnel that's my soul.
A transient mem'ry now,
that feeling of being whole.

A momentary flicker,
a broken shaft of light.
Do not tease me with the stars
when I'm surrounded by the night.

Hope that once shone clear
is shrouded in the mist.
Cold and barren now,
land the sun once kissed.

Pain is like a monster,
raising up its claw.
Penetrating deep
a heart whose wounds are raw.

Confusion rears its head.
Conflicted reasonings grow.
Shame prevents the heart
from feeling love's warm glow.

A momentary flicker,
a broken shaft of light.
Do not tease me with the stars
when I'm surrounded by the night.
__________

For Every Moment

For moments when my soul feels rubbed raw
For moments when places in my heart need to thaw
For moments when I feel I've lost it all
For moments when so far I fall

I need to remember You're here with me
Even in the dark when I cannot see
I need to remember Your love for me
That binds these chains and sets me free

For moments when my hope is dim
For moments when all life seems grim
For moments when fears come in the night
For moments when I loose view of the light

I need to remember Your faithfulness
I need to remember You'll never love me less
No matter what I do You're at my side
And there is no darkness in which I can hide

For moments when I'm drowning in my tears
For moments when I'm haunted by old fears
For moments when I feel alone
For moments when my life seems a dry bone

I need to remember Your love never fails
And brings me back when I'm off on bunny trails
I need to remember You're holding me
And let You open my eyes so I can see

For moments when my spirit's in turmoil
For moments when emotions boil
For moments anguish breaks my heart
For moments when I feel apart

I need to remember Your light will never fade
And there is a reward for those who dive instead of wade
Your river of life will sustain my soul
The gift You gave is what makes me whole

For moments when I have no friend
For moments when I just want to let the enemy win
For moments when the world closes in
For moments when I'm suffocating in my sin

I need to remember You died and rose for me
I need to remember Your blood set me free
By Your strength I can overcome
So now into Your waiting arms I run.

What is the Darkness? Is it guilt shrouding the subject in Darkness? Liked the poem very much.

I also read Seasons. Where is Spring?

Thank you.

Yes, that's correct.

:D Er...I don't recall how I decided which season to leave out of "Seasons", but that particular form of poetry didn't allow me enough stanzas to include all four, as the fourth stanza must be written using only the words from the proceeding three. I suppose I could have tried using them to describe the other season.

Forgiveness, of thy self and others, is the light removing the shroud of darkness
(guilt) and the healer of all wounds borne of that bitter pill.

Forgive my Monkish preaching. :)

All Blessings be upon thee, thy kith and kin.

Indeed, and I don't mind your "Monkish preaching". Sometimes I have to remind myself of that.

Here is another of my poems, one of the first good ones I wrote:

Why did you, the Lord of all,
die for me, so insignificant and small?
How, when You see a sinner such as I,
can You think, "For this one again and again would I die"?
Why go through the pain
for my one heart to gain?
When you look at me,
what is it You see?
You took from me my death sentence
and love me even when I turn from repentance.
What have I done to gain Your love,
when it is I that spilled Your blood?
You hung on the cross to set me free
when it was my sin that pounded nails into thee.
Three days in hell to dry my tears,
so I could be with You for every coming year.

I hear You whisper in my ear,
"You can never fathom my love for you, dear.
Turn your eyes up to my face.
Let me shower you with My love and My grace.
It is My love that sets you free,
even though you would not acknowledge Me.
When I look at you I see My innocent child,
washed clean by My love, not wicked and wild.
Accept My love and grace.
Allow Me to wrap you in My tender embrace
Accept My forgiveness, for I accept you.
At your side I remain, ever faithful and true.
Let go of your fears.
Let Me dry your precious tears.
I have paid for the sin
of all women and men.
Accept my love, and that fact that you are My beautiful child."

Thank you, sir.

Here is one more...RFish. It's a bit of an odd style and close to ridiculously long, though  ;D

Battle

No moon, it took an hour,
as thin mists played gently 'round
the feet that tread the soft, moist ground,
heading quietly toward the tower.

Through darkened night,
on they went
and never was their courage spent,
though fog now cloaked their sight.

Sweat beaded
on broad foreheads, 'neath their helms,
as they walked past trees, past the elms,
wishing the humidity to go unheeded.

And now they've reached
the tower high,
reaching up toward clouded sky,
and pray t'will soon be breached.

Sentries guard the doors,
tall, silent danger,
unaware of each hidden stranger
as they gaze across the misty moors.

Swords hang at armored sides,
providing comfort as they surround
the great stone tower, without a sound.
On this their captain prides.

Soft lantern light
creates dancing shadows on the ground.
Flickering, disappearing, rising o're a mound,
breaking through thick dark of night.

They smell the sweat
that drips down brows
as they take care not to arouse
enemies not yet met.

At a signal from a stealthy hand
hearts pound, excited yet wary.
And now no longer do they tarry,
as forward moves this intrepid band

Swords are taken
from sheaths, by gauntleted fingers.
Nowhere is one who lingers
as fears must be forsaken.

Breaking through the silence's reign -
a great shout to intimidate.
Soldiers no longer have to wait,
praying courage will not wane.

Guardians start.
Alarmed, they reach for hilts.
Complacency wilts,
leaving each heart.

The first blood falls
to marshy land,
and its owner will no longer stand
as others are haunted by his calls.

Opens the door
to the tower's insides.
And sword collides
with sword, now harder than before.

Silver blades
glint in firelight
from lanterns bright
as another life fades.

Sweat mixes with blood
as they fight, tenacious.
Their spirits stand firm, audacious,
but flinch as life pours out, a flood.

They will not be swayed,
and move in, closer to their goal,
each hardened soul,
as swiftly moves each silver blade.

Now guards lie prone -
life gone, spirit fled,
and warriors file past the dead,
and walk upon the stone.

The tower is won,
a step in war.
But hearts are wounded by the gore,
and many hope it has not merely begun.

Haunted eyes -
witnesses to the truth,
many still not past their youth,
as in their ears echo death's cries.

Now they take care
to choose their fights,
to weigh the worth of bloody nights,
and shiver now in humid air.

The lives of those
who fell that night -
did they not feel they were as right?
And now each life no longer glows.

Take care to choose your battles.
