Title: Pregnant Pirate???
Post by: Capt Lucy on February 22, 2009, 12:42:42 PM
LOL... that was even fun to SAY!  :)

So...I had thought about going for a different look while I am prego this year but ya know what?  It's just not ME...lol.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can pull off being "Capt Lucy" still??  A full bodice is OUT OF THE QUESTION...lol.  Money is tight too so...yeah.  Anywho...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  :)

Say you're not actually pregnant but are hiding a spare cannonball under your dress "just in case" for your pirate ship.

Regards,

You could wear some sort of loose fitting, cropped open vest in place of the bodice.  You could also just wear a big blousy chemise, or pirate shirt alone or with a loose sash.  I don't think anyone would dare say anything, especially in the heat of the summer, but if they do, just growl at them, and tell them not to mess with a pregnant pirates' comfort!  :D

Use a line like.."surrender all your gold.. or pickles and ice cream, too!"  :D

So I'm thinking of just going with the pirate frock and loose pirate shirt underneath.  Seems to be the best way to go, at least until it gets warm, lol.

Hmmm

Some comfy bloomers, or loose pants, they fit under the tummy so you are comfy

A half bodice, like a middle eastern style so it hits your rib cage

A really loose shirt

and dont forget comfy shoes and a parasol for shade

This is my daughter pregnant, she found this Gypsy outfit at Moresca. It's a little half bodice and the top under the bodice is very loose. She just loves it, she said it was very comfortable.  Good Luck.

Thanks :)   Yes i own that entire Moresca outfit.  But it screams gypsy....and not Capt Lucy ;)  I'm looking for more piratical garb.

I did preggers and garb.... whoooooo!

I'd say to stick with the frock, and loose sash around your belly. As it grows, just put it under the belly. When it gets warm, just wear the pirate shirt and belt, with breeches. If you're feeling adventurous, you could tie your shirt up over your belly and get it "tattooed" with some piratical stuff, like a giant skull and crossbones out of henna or body paint. Hotness, if you're up for it LOL.

If you get the henna tattoo you could have a treasure map there with "x" marking the spot. Just remember to check into the type of henna that is used as you don't want anything bad to happen. I seem to remember a thread with a warning about henna tats.

My sister did the same sort of thing, and just got her stomach "face painted". They put a large scull and crossbones on it and something cute about... booty. I can't remember, haha. If I find a picture, i'll tack it up here.

When I was pregnant in garb, I just wore my front-lacing bodice unlaced at the bottom.  I only laced up the top two or three eyelets, and let my belly stick out underneath.  I pulled the waistband of my skirt up over the top of my bump.  Made me look a bit more pregnant than I actually was, but at least I got a seat at all the shows!

I wish I'd gotten my belly hennaed, but I was still pretty much in the is-she-fat-or-is-she-pregnant stage.  :-\
