It is with regret that Heal'n and I will be unable to attend the invasion this year. But the call schedule at work dictates otherwise.

If you can't remember we will tell you what a good time you had.
And video tape it so there is proof! ;D
I doubt we will make it in time for Friday night but looking forward to the rest of the weekend.
Well if you can make it my friend it will be fun! Otherwise we'll see you on Saturday!
Depends on when we can leave and the traffic. You know how 95 from Baltimore to Fredericksburg can be. On a Friday holiday weekend its bound to be even worse.
Sadly I do my friend. Well we will be there for a while I'm sure so stop on by when you get in the area.

I discovered a new route ... a bit longer but faster. Take 3/301 South to Port Royal then cut West to Fredericksburg. Faster than you might think. I will never travel the 95 corridor again! >:(
Coming into and crossing through Fredricksburg from the east? It was tried a while back.
Better watch out for the cannon fire from Marye's Heights. ;D
I also found that the 301 route works better than 95 on trips north to MD and DC...
I think you will like it a whole lot better....
Tim T and Lady Jai have suggested the same. I had them come up 95 this past Labor Day and it took them next to forever. I thought they were going to kill me when they got to our house. Fortunately plenty of chilled adult beverages solved the problem. I've been hesitant because we are pretty far west of 301 but we may have to give it a try.
Hiberian, my friend, sorry we had to cancel our CRF trip. I'm disappointed I won't see you at VARF or GARF. Looking forward to meeting you in person for Rendezvous.
Looking forward to Labor Day Rendezvous as well. My call schedule has just hit all the holidays since this past Thanksgiving. As they say, if it weren't for bad luck....
Ok, I'm not sure about 301, but I always go 85 to MD/DC. But then, I'm coming from Alabama, soo....
Anyway, I'm going to try and make this little trip. :) Just sort of depends on graduation and possible job situations. I graduate on May 17th! Woohoo!!!
We plan on traveling up from Raleigh to make our first visit to VARF Memorial Day weekend as well. ;D Won't make it for the Friday night festivities but will be there the rest of the weekend. Any words of wisdom when attending this faire with young ones (3.5 yrs)?
Femme Falchion I would recommend you take your little ones to our poppets pastime guild area. That area is specifically designated for children of that and any age range to go and play a little bit and also learn about what child life was like back during the reign of Elizabeth. Anyway I do look forward to seeing at VARF this year. If you do happen to see me anywhere in our shire please do stop by and say hello.
Are there going to be rooms at a specific hotel for us? Lairde Guard'n? Any info yet?
Oh yea, go 301, last year there was an accident on 95 and it took me 5 hrs. to get there! Won't do that again. :o
But of course I will seek you out Lord Wriothsley and look forward to meeting again. I assure you I will be in a better frame of mind for conversation this time! ::) And many thanks for the recommendation for my young charges. :)

FF –
Our first trip to VARF was 4 years ago when our youngest, Drew, was 3. You'll find that there a typically some games for the younger ones. There are many things that I love about VARF but the top two are the cast and the faire's intimacy. In the first couple of years before we got to know some of the cast we felt very welcomed and received what I believe to be extra attention due to the fact that the entire family was in garb. I couldn't help but feel like that if Drew wandered off the cast would have spotted him. (BTW – I can't help but to wonder how many of the cast are M'Cracks? Seems like a pretty high percentage.) Because the faire is smaller and set up (more or less) as a figure 8 with much of it in the open it is easy to keep an eye on the kids. And even on its most crowded days it never seems crowded so we never get that fear that we could easily loose a kid as we do at MDRF. I think that you'll fall in love with VARF as we have.
Looking forward to seeing you twice this spring.
Dallan....you extolled the many virtues of this faire to us when we met in Raleigh and that is why we're making the trip this year. :) I thank thee for the recommendations. ;D
QuoteI have never forgotten about you since CRF m'lady.
Gramercy Lord Wriothsley, a woman always wants to be remembered! ;) ::)
Dallan is right that many of the cast are indeed M'Cracks! We're trying hard to add as many to the clan as we can! By hook or crook! ::) Anyway, we are a small faire but what Dallan says about the intamcy is what drew me into being on cast. My first year I found them I spent 15 minutes talking to a courtier about the goings on in court as if I was a welcomed friend in their shire rather than just a number. I decided I wanted to do that too and now I do. I'm quite sure you will enjoy your trip to our fine shire. On another note FF, I amshamed to say that I do not know your M'Crack name. Can you let me know so I can add you to our rolls?

Oh I'm sure I can find a Guiness somewhere! ::)
Femme-
I'll have to agree with my friend Dallan on VARF. We absolutely fell in love with VARF our first time there. We feel so comfortable and welcome at that faire that it feels as if it is our home away from home. Master James and the other staff members do a wonderful job purely for the love of the faire, and it shows. There's no old world buildings like in MDRF, no splashing fountains like at PARF, and no large jousting field like CRF, but there is NO other faire that I would want more to sit in the pub(a big blue tent) and sing Wild Mountain Thyme or Health to the Company with a mug of cold beer. Looking forward to seeing ALL of you there.
I'm really getting 'homesick' now!

I do thank you all for your VARF endorsements and certainly look forward to our voyage! ;)

Master James I totally agree with you my friend. Femme I think you would make an excellent to our wonderful M'Crack Family. :)
I know of a couple from Clan White that would be happy to act as sponsors.
I'm from Clan White and I wouldn't mind sponsoring Femme at all.
Come on Femme and join us, it's the Best family ever. And as you can see there is not a sponsor problem. All you need is a M'Crack name. Think about it! Looking forward to meeting you and family.
Sun'n M'Crack (pet)
and I look forward to meeting you as well Lady Joyce ! I have been an admirer from afar of your headdress choices for some time! ;D
With such a hospitable and joyful group, it's a wonder that everyone is not a member of the M'Crack family! It is wonderful to know that I would find willing sponsers when I make my respectful request for petition. :)
FF enjoy the hospitality of Clan White, they are honorable people who always have a fine story and a cold pint to share. But keep in mind your home faires and the M'Cracks of Carolina.

As if Clan White would poach! That never happens. ;) ;D
After all poaching is against the law. :o Just ask Scotsman!
Yeah we are ABSOLUTLEY inocent of any claims of poaching! We would never do it, unless Scotsman wasn't watching that is! ::)

But! But! Eggs Benedict just wouldn't be the same with a fried or a boiled egg. And don't even
try suggesting scrambled. :P Dammitall, I'm just going to have to keep breaking that law then because without a poached egg, Eggs Benedict just isn't right.
On the other hand, a really
fine dish of Eggs Benedict is denoted by the shiny silver platter upon which it's served, with that lovely sauce spilling ever so gently from the sides of the muffin onto the plate's brightly reflective surface. Because all the best chefs know there's no place like chrome for the Hollandaise.

AWWW Come on, that was fun to watch her run in circles
I have to agree with Pin'n on that. LOL!
*whew* Thanks, Peddlin'. Some days that's the only exercise I get. Just remember:
When in danger,
When in doubt,
Run in circles,
Scream and shout!
Hey, it's worked well for me so far. :D
Are there any beer runners umm...i mean pets?
Anyone else coming from out of state?
Yup Clan White will have 4 however they are all on cast so no real running can be done by them during the faire. Sorry. I'm sure there will be other pets about to step and fetch, er, ah, assist the members with getting their beverages. ;D
The turnout at GARF was a little light. Loking forward to Memorial weekend.
I know my pet is gonna be there. ::)
Are you kidding???? I wouldn't miss this for anything,I miss you guys sooo much!
Hey, but I need a place to stay.Where is the closest hotel? Are the M'Cracks getting a block of rooms somewhere? HELP!
We are staying the same place we always do, Country Inn & Suites in Fredericksburg. $100 per night and it has a Master bedroom and pull out sofa bed for the kids in the other room. We like it because we don't have to share a bedroom with the boys. you can probably find something less expensive but I wil tell you the CI&S are always nice. It's less than 30 minutes from faire.
The nearest chain hotels are at the I-95 exit in Thornburg (exit 118). I stayed at the Quality Inn there a few times last year but was less than pleased and the last few times I stayed over, instead of staying at the QI again I drove about eight miles north on I-95 and stayed at the Hampton Inn in Fredericksburg. (I'm addicted to Hampton Inns' beds but there are a lot of other chain motels right around there.) Happily, there's now a brand new Holiday Inn Express and Suites right behind the Quality Inn and that's likely where I'll crash at least once this year.
I am a Pet and both I and my smaller (yet somehow taller) brother will be there! But...we will have family with us both days, and small-ish children with us on Sunday...so any beer-running will be have to be done on Saturday! ;)
How old are your kids?
Kids are always welcome ... however, there does tend to be colorful language at times, I can not be responsible for when the Smithwick's takes over ;D
I will try to be on my best behavior which on a good day is NC-17ish.
they are arounf older-grade school...I think? They're cousins, so I'm not 100% sure. But they know enough not to repeat anything compromising!
Suzie -
We have two boys 7 and 12 (1st and 6th grade). I'm sure they would be happy to help entertain your brothers children.
I went to take Friday off to make sure that we could make the meet and great when I realized that we have tickets to Kenny Chesney at Merriwether Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD that Friday night. So the new plan is that we are going to the concert and get up very early to make the drive down on Saturday. We'll still be there both days I may just be a little more frazzled on Saturday morning that I had originally thought.
Now Dallan, don't spread your boys too thin.....they are going to have their hands full! Owen & Connor are looking forward to playing with "the pirates". ;) :D
M'Lord, our twins and I will be staying at the KOA in Fredericksburg Fri-Mon (we're in a camp cabin, all are welcome to stop by for refreshment if you're in the neighborhood :)). We're hoping that the faire will please the young ones enough to return both days. :)
Looking forward to our maiden voyage to VARF!
No worries FF, Devon is yours for part of the at day Saturday at the least. Tell the twins to play with the pirates they need to come back on Sunday as Saturday is kilt day in honor of the Clan. Sunday shall be pirate day.

Staying at the Fbg KOA? Bring LOTS of repellant. It's rather "buggy" there.
Pixie I like the new picture. It turned out real nice. Where and when was it taken?
Thank you! It was at MDRF in 07, I believe.
You are most certainly welcome my friend.
Can we stuff Dad in the trunk again? I miss aunt becky, uncle dave and cousin timmy - are we going to see them? Is aunt susan and uncle bill coming too? I miss dockside can we go saturday night? can we go to colonial beach and spend the ENTIRE day at the casino?
Got pictures of the new grandbaby (and a good one of Timmy) from Becky this morning and sent her a note, asking if they are going to be around. We miss them, too.
Peddlin do you think you could post those pictures you got of your new grandbaby on here so we could see them? I bet he/she is a real cutie (your new grandbaby that is).

FAMILY GATHERING AT VARF - MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND - May 22-23-24
VARF is under a week away and things are looking great for this trip....it will definitely be the largest gathering of the family this year so far with almost 50 members confirmed already and many more still pending last minute updates. For those that have not made up their mind as to make this trip or not, it is only three and a half hours from the Raleigh area and similar times from most sites in PA and MD or shorter, and tickets for this faire are only $7.00 per day. Put that with the fact that if you camp at Hunt'ns place, the expenses are pretty low. This should be a not miss for a lot of you. I am so looking forward to seeing everyone.........
Also for those in the Raleigh Area.....we have three vans and at least one car leaving this area and have room in all of them so that we can cut down on the expenses by splitting the cost of gas. Let me know asap if you would like to have one of those spaces.....Two of the vans are planning to leave at noon on Friday.....the other vehicles I am still waiting to hear what time they plan to go.
You can find information on VARF and the address and directions at http://www.varf.org/
One thing you all should know is that Hunt'n M'Crack has offered his house to the members of Clan M'Crack that wish to stay there, there is still some inside room and there is plenty of tent space still available and at least two tents are already going to be there that no one has claimed to use yet, so we do have space. If your planning to stay we will need to know ASAP.... for those staying there, you should remember to bring your own towels, blankets or sleeping bag, whatever you are planning for drinks, and lawn chairs. Hunt'n's house is also the site of the Saturday Nite gathering, so we will plan to see most of you out there. The address is.........
23070 Independence Rd
Unionville, VA 22567
For those who don't have GiPS, I recommend www.map24.com (I like it better than mapquest and randmcnally).

Is it Friday yet??
Yea sure it is, we will meet you at the pub. :D
Gettin' closer, by the minute!!!!!! ;D
Can't wait!
I don't recall if this has been mentioned before, but VARF (huzzah to them) is waiving entrance fees this weekend for our active, reserve and retired military personnel (with military ID) in honor of thier service.
We've had a slight change in plans. I forgot we bought concert tickets for Friday night and invited friends so our plan is to leave early Saturday morning. I'm hoping to make it for opening gate but if we run late we'll see everyone inside. The weekend looks promising.

Glad I'm not the only one. My plans have changed a bit too. I can't make it to to the Irish Pub on Friday like I sooo wanted to do. Gotta make a short road trip to get my little one. She's 7. She'll be with me this weekend in her fairy garb and is very much looking forward to faire. Start 'em young, I say!
I do plan to see you guys at the gate and in the pub!
I don't know how ... but I survived. You guys may not have noticed but I got WICKED drunk.
James (Tater), thanks to you and your crew for hosting. Awesome, as always!

Now there's something new, a M'Crack who may have been drinking.
Now that you mention it, you have a good point!
It was good seeing your boy and the lass. Your Sister looks just like you!

I knew something was amiss when you left on Saturday before closing time. I just assumed the pub had run out of beer. ;D
