As nasty as that is, it's not the first time and there are some that would do it on purpose, it seems.

"...workers said the rum in the 300-liter barrel had a "special taste" so they even decanted a few bottles of the liquor to take home."

Honey, don't drink from that bottle.  We save that one for guests...

There's a pub in Sydney that brews "Admiral Nelson's Blood" - when it's available they note it on a chalkboard.  It's very dark, with hints of chocolate & coffee - perfect w/a pie.

But then again if I remember Nelson was preserved in brandy as opposed to rum after The Battle of Trafalgar in order to bring him home to England.

You remebered correctly, Lord Admiral Nelson's body was preserved in a cask of brandy.

I was just reading a zombie comic and this thread now makes me think of the new movie

Zombie Pirates of the Caribbean.

In the background we hear muttered voices..." Brains... brains...  "

While in the Officers' Mess the Midshipman confesses:
"Ye know cap'n, there was somethin' I didna tell ye aboot that extra barrel of rum we gave tae the crew..."

Never give up the rum. Just be more careful with it in the future. Use better filters, something, but dear god never give it up.
